Sevenoaks bethanyschool.org.uk [email protected] 01580 211273 BETHANY SCHOOL, CURTISDEN GREEN, CRANBROOK, KENT TN17 1LB Welcome to TWRFC...from your Chairman Today we welcome Westcliff RFU from Essex for the very first time to St Marks on the 12th week of this Season’s London & SE Premier League. This week also marks the 14th anniversary of a tragic event that occurred back in 2003 when one of our up and coming stars was tragically killed in a road accident. Anthony Clarke, only son of our President Roger and his wife Sarah, was killed along with his very close friend Amy Donelan. Earlier today the annual rugby match was held between a TWRFC representative side and Bethany School, where Anthony attended, in memory of him. We also welcome 30 Bethany guests to our pre match lunch along with the rest of Anthony’s family and hope that you enjoy all the hospitality and great game of rugby that we see here at TWRFC. I had the honour of playing rugby with Anthony as he entered Senior rugby and he was a budding fly half with a great career ahead of him, so today has great significance for everyone who knew him at the Club. We start today in 7th position in the league with 30 points following a fan- tastic win against Sidcup last week whilst Westcliff are sitting in 5th on 37 points after a comfortable win over Sutton & Epsom. This league is proving to be very challenging where you can jump 3 or 4 places from week to week. It was great to see our boys putting in the best performance of the season last week against local rivals Sidcup and great to see us back to full strength. Unfortunately we lost Max Douch to a dislocated knee-cap and we wish him the all best and a speedy recovery and look forward to him seeing back out on the pitch very soon. A huge thank you to Bethany School for their on going support and spon- sorship of TWRFC, along with our other sponsors who make and help this Club be as successful as it is. We look forward to what I hope will be a very entertaining game of rugby this afternoon and best of luck to all the other team in blue and white! COYW!!! John Crees Chairman TWRFC The Ballboy Part 7 Hello Everyone, And welcome to my page. I’m the ball boy and I love to turn up and help out the 1st XV. Hopefully you will see me striding purposefully with my Gilbert’s in hand, ready to get the match underway and to hang out under the posts (oppositions preferably!). So looking into the opposition this week, I realised that they started life as an Old Boys club (like us). Westcliff High School for Boys. And one of their many famous alumni is Wilco Johnson, ex Dr Feelgood (Got it on milk and alcohol - remember that one?), and collaborator with the legend that is Ian Dury (and the Blockheads). Songs that Wilco and and Ian wrote were few, however the best one was Sueperman’s Big sister (intentionally misspelt so as not to be sued by DC Comics!) found on the 3rd Album, Laughter. He still lives in Southend, and clearly is a talented bloke! The other Old boy of musical note is Gary Brooker - he of Procol Harum fame. Whilst I wish good luck to both sides today, I pray it is not the mighty Well’s who ‘Turn a whiter shade of pale’ upon the final whistle! Love and peace to you all, Ian RIP as ‘there aint arf been some clever bastards!’ Balls to you all... Support your club and banish those January blues!! Captains Corner Good afternoon everyone. We come into this game with a bag load of confidence following the best 80 minute performance we have produced all year against Sidcup last week. After losing to them both home and away last year, it was great to travel there as under dogs and come out with a 26-48 win. It was a great all round effort, but special mention to Brendan Crosilla, who played 80 minutes in his first game back from injury. With strong carries, solid defence and powerful scrummaging it’s good to have the big man back. Another mention has to go to Max Douch who was playing superbly, but unfortunately dislocated his knee. It wasn’t pretty , but we all wish you a speedy recovery and hopefully get you back to your nippy best in no time. This week we welcome Westcliff. A few of the boys remember our away trip to them in pre season last year so we are well aware of the threat they pose. They are just above us in the league, so it’s a big game in the context of both our seasons. Another big challenge which the whole squad are looking forward to. Enjoy the Game !!! COYW. THE ANTHONY CLARKE MEMORIAL FUND The Anthony Clarke Memorial Fund was set up at TWRFC and at Bethany School Goudhurst to commemorate the life of Anthony Clarke. Anthony had joined Tunbridge Wells as an U6 and progressed to the 1st Xv as an 18 year old. Although his preferred position was scrum half he played at fly half and at full back in a season where TWRFC were playing RFU level 6 Rugby. He was about to start a Kent U 20 season and had already played for the Kent Senior Seven in a County Championship competition. In late November 2003 Anthony very sadly died in a road accident along with his long term friend Amy Donelan who had just left Bedgebury School.
