At the last moment, Volvo - which was to own a minority (49 percent) of the merged company - walked away from the deal, fearful for its loss of independence. 'Renault learnt a great deal from that failure,' says Ghosn, who was to join Renault (from tyre maker Michelin) three years later. 'It learnt that mergers and acquisitions were perhaps not good business models. No company likes to lose its identity, its soul.' Says Bernard Rey, senior vice-president for CEO office for Renault who held a similar position at Nissan until March 2007: 'The intended Volvo merger was a disaster for us at the time. Top Volvo management were not supportive. They thought Renault was going to take control. In a way, it was probably a blessing. It prefaced many subsequent mergers and acquisitions and few, if any, have been successful.' The DaimlerChrysler merger of 1998, initially hailed as a success as it created the world's third largest automotive group, gave Renault further cause for concern. Renault was a motoring minnow, tiny alongside the big players. -

Letter from the Chairman With an optimistic perspective at heart, and despite the many factors that have led to a drained and weak market, we have set a confident two-year plan of investments for RYMCO that will pave a positive path for our future. Since the beginning of 2013, we have launched many projects, new car models, and planned for many more throughout the year including new showroom ventures. As promised, we have several new model launches in 2013, and thus far we have launched successfully the All-New Nissan Pathfinder and Sentra alongside the All-New Infiniti JX. We had a spectacular launch event on our Chiyah Headquarters rooftop which hosted approximately 500 renowned guests. The Nissan Pathfinder 2013 set new standards towards an evolved generation of SUVs with the new concept of balance between the heavy off-road, city and family SUV. This model has long been Nissan’s best selling SUV. We also introduced the Nissan Sentra which is currently excelling in the regional market as well as in Lebanon. Following its international success and especially in North America, it now is available within the Nissan line-up for the first time in Lebanon. This model’s highlights are its vast cabin room, latest specifications and technology that are not available in any other C-segment vehicles. We also have promising new models yet to come which I am sure will be to your liking. In line with our goal of being accessible to all consumers and as part of our two-year investment plan, we have committed to adding several new showrooms across the capital. -

March 15, 2005 Nissan Announces Management Changes Tokyo -- Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today announced management changes that become effective April 1. “I have full confidence in our new team’s ability to successfully implement the next chapter of Nissan’s profitable growth, NISSAN Value-Up,” said Nissan president and CEO Carlos Ghosn. Major Changes in Senior Vice President Responsibilities: Kazuhiko Toida, currently responsible for global aftersales, will become head of marketing and sales for Japan. He will also become chairman of Nissan’s dealer management committee. Kimiyasu Nakamura will be in charge of all vehicle design engineering. New Senior Vice Presidents: In addition, Junichi Endo, Hitoshi Kawaguchi, Minoru Shinohara and Yo Usuba will all be appointed senior vice presidents as of April 1. Endo, currently president of Autech Japan, will be responsible for Nissan’s global aftersales division, as well as the company’s conversion business. Kawaguchi, currently president of Nissan Financial Services, will take over responsibility for Nissan’s human resources department. Shinohara, in charge of Nissan Research Center, will become head of Nissan’s advanced vehicle engineering division. Usuba, general manager of Nissan’s powertrain project planning department, will become responsible for the powertrain engineering division. New Vice Presidents: Seven new vice presidents will be appointed as of April 1 (see attached document for complete list). Other Notable Management Changes: Nobuo Okubo, currently executive vice president, will become chief technology officer from April 1. Norio Matsumura, who will retire on March 31, will become president of Nissan Prince Osaka. Patrick Pelata, who will return to Renault after March 31, will be proposed as a non-executive director of Nissan at the company’s shareholders’ meeting in June. -

Key Dates: 1911 : Masujiro Hashimoto founds the Kwaishinsha Motor car Works in Tokyo. 1914 : Hashimoto introduces his first car, the DAT. 1918 : The Datson model is first produced. 1932 : The Datson brand is changed to Datsun. 1933 : The manufacturing and sale of Datsun cars is taken over by the Jidosha Seizo company, Ltd. 1934 : Jidosha Seizo changes its name to Nissan Motor co., Ltd. Early 1940s:During World War II, the company makes military trucks and engines for airplanes and torpedo boats. 1951 : Nissan becomes a publicly traded company. 1952 : Nissan enters into a license agreement with U.K.-based Austin Motor company Ltd. 1958 : Export of cars to the U.S. market begins. 1966 : The company merges with Prince Motor company Ltd. 1981 : The company begins changing its name from Datsun to Nissan in the U.S. market. 1989 : The Infiniti line of luxury automobiles is introduced. 1992 : The company posts the first pretax loss in its history as a public company; Nissan introduces the Altima small luxury sedan and the Quest minivan, the latter a joint development with Ford Motor company.
