Anissa MBATA III ABSTRACT The current thesis examines the linguistic and social correlates of early language change in ‘El-Amour (Amr) ethnic group’ within Ain-Sefra speech community. The ultimate aims are to seek for the aspects of language change which are noticed as apparent time pilot study results of phonological and lexical features and to account for an interrelation between this change in progress and identity preservation. Moreover, the questionnaire and the focus group interview findings display an externally-motivated change of the status of the Amr sociolinguistic variables and certain lexemes which are extremely associated with the bedouin life-style of El- Amour individuals. The fundamental statistical significance of the findings reveals that the sound change and the co-existence of its variants among women are more prominent than that of men and participants who have a low level of education. Furthermore, lexical change is conditioned by the lack of use of those vocabulary items in urban environment as opposed to its original Bedouin /nomadic setting. Hence, the qualitative results have testified the tight relationship between linguistic change and Amr speaker’s identity preservation which is perceived as an age-based and context-concomitant phenomenon. • Study of the Interannual Rainfall Variability in Northern Algeria Etude De La Variabilite Inter-Annuelle Des Pluies De L'algerie Septentrionale
Revue scientifique et technique. LJEE N°23. Décembre 2013 STUDY OF THE INTERANNUAL RAINFALL VARIABILITY IN NORTHERN ALGERIA ETUDE DE LA VARIABILITE INTER-ANNUELLE DES PLUIES DE L'ALGERIE SEPTENTRIONALE Mohamed MEDDI. École Nationale Supérieure d’Hydraulique, Blida, LGEE. [email protected] Samir TOUMI . École Nationale Supérieure d’Hydraulique, Blida, LGEE. ABSTRACT : The work presented here focuses on the inter-annual variability of annual rainfall in Northern Algeria. This work is carried out by using the coefficient of variation (the ratio between the standard deviation and the average). We will try to show areas of low, medium and high variations in Northern Algeria. In order to do this, we use 333 rainfall stations spread over the entire study area, with a measurement period of 37 years (1968/2004). The contrast of rainfall spatial and temporal distribution has been demonstrated by studying the sixteen basins, as adopted by the National Agency of Water Resources. The high spatial variability characterizes the basins of the High Plateaus of Constantine and Chot El Hodna.

  • Prevalence and Risk Factors of Intestinal Protozoan Infection
Sebaa et al. BMC Infect Dis (2021) 21:888 https://doi.org/10.1186/s12879-021-06615-5 RESEARCH ARTICLE Open Access Prevalence and risk factors of intestinal protozoan infection among symptomatic and asymptomatic populations in rural and urban areas of southern Algeria Soumia Sebaa1, Jerzy M. Behnke2, Djamel Baroudi3, Ahcene Hakem1,4 and Marawan A. Abu‑Madi5* Abstract Background: Intestinal parasitic infections are amongst the most common infections worldwide and have been identifed as one of the most signifcant causes of morbidity and mortality among disadvantaged populations. This comparative cross‑sectional study was conducted to assess the prevalence of intestinal protozoan infections and to identify the signifcant risk factors associated with intestinal parasitic infections in Laghouat province, Southern Algeria. Methods: A comparative cross‑sectional study was conducted, involving 623 symptomatic and 1654 asymptomatic subjects. Structured questionnaires were used to identify environmental, socio demographic and behavioral factors. Stool specimens were collected and examined using direct wet mount, formalin‑ether concentration, xenic in vitro culture and staining methods. Results: A highly signifcant diference of prevalence was found between symptomatic (82.3%) and asymptomatic subjects (14.9%), with the majority attributable to protozoan infection. The most common species in the symptomatic subjects were Blastocystis spp. (43.8%), E. histolytica/dispar (25.4%) and Giardia intestinalis (14.6%) and more rarely Enterobius vermicularis (02.1%), Teania spp. (0.6%) and Trichuris trichiura (0.2%), while in asymptomatic population Blastocystis spp. (8%), Entamoeba coli (3.3%) and Entamoeba histolytica/dispar (2.5%) were the most common para‑ sites detected with no case of helminth infection.
