Rev. John C. Stennfeld,

COMMUNION ANNOUNCEMENT

Here at Christ Lutheran Church we believe, teach and confess that Jesus Christ is the only Savior from sin, and that He alone is the way to eternal life.

We believe, teach, and confess that in the Sacrament of Holy Communion the true body and blood of Jesus Christ is received along with the elements of bread and wine, and that the reception of this gift in faith is a means through which God Himself forgives our sins, strengthens us in faith, and unites us as His children.

If your own personal beliefs are in complete harmony with these Biblical truths, if you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in these Lutheran confessions, if you recognize the reality of sin in your life and desire to receive God’s forgiveness, and if you acknowledge that receiving Holy Communion at our table expresses an implied unity with us in the body of Christ you are welcome to join us at the table of our Lord.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Christ Lutheran Church is to connect people to Jesus through:

● Inspirational worship ● Loving service ● Caring fellowship ● Relevant education so that they may know, and grow in, his love.

PRELUDE

WELCOME

HYMN “Christ, the Life of All the Living” LSB #420

Christ, the life of all the living, Christ, the death of death, our foe, Who, Thyself for me once giving To the darkest depths of woe; Through Thy suff’rings, death and merit I eternal life in inherit Thousand, thousand thanks shall be, Dearest Jesus unto Thee.

Thou, ah! Thou, has taken on Thee Bonds and stripes, a cruel rod; Pain and scorn were heaped upon Thee, O Thou sinless Son of God! Thus didst Thou my soul deliver From the bonds of sin forever. Thousand, thousand thanks shall be, Dearest Jesus unto Thee.

Thou hast borne the smiting only That my wounds might all be whole; Thou hast suffered, sad and lonely, Rest to give my weary soul; Yea, the curse of God enduring, Blessing unto me securing. Thousand, thousand thanks shall be, Dearest Jesus unto Thee. - 2 -

Heartless scoffers did surround Thee, Treating Thee with shameful scorn And with piercing thorns they crowned Thee. All disgrace Thou, Lord has borne, That as Thine Tough mightiest own me And with Heav’nly glory crown me. Thousand, thousand thanks shall be, Dearest Jesus unto Thee.

Thou hast suffered men to bruise Thee, That from pain I might be free; Falsely did Thy foes accuse Thee: Thence I gain security; Comfortless Thy soul did languish Me to comfort in my anguish. Thousand, thousand thanks shall be, Dearest Jesus, unto Thee.

Thou hast suffered great affliction And hast borne it patiently, Even death by crucifixion, Fully to atone for me; Thou didst choose to be tormented That my doom should be prevented. Thousand, thousand thanks shall be, Dearest Jesus, unto Thee.

Then, for all that wrought my pardon, For Thy sorrows deep and sore, For Thine anguish in the Garden, I will thank Thee evermore, Thank Thee for Thy groaning, sighing, For Thy bleeding and Thy dying, For that last triumphant cry, And shall praise Thee, Lord, on high.

- 4 - HYMN “Abide with Me” LSB #878

Abide with me, fast falls the eventide. The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

I need Thy presence ev’ry passing hour; What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s pow’r? Who like Thyself my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me.

Come not in terrors, as the King of kings, But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings; Tears for all woes a heart for ev’ry plea. Come friend of sinners, thus abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day; Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see; O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

I fear no foe with Thee at hand to bless; Ills have no weight and tears no bitterness. Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still if Thou abide with me!

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies. Heav’n’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

- 5 - (Please be seated) HYMN “In the Cross of Christ I Glory” LSB #427

In the cross of Christ I glory, Tow’ring o’er the wrecks of time. All the light of sacred story Gathers round its head sublime.

When the woes of life o’ertake me, Hopes deceive, and fears annoy, Never shall the cross forsake me; Lo, it glows with peace and joy.

When the sun of bliss is beaming Light and love upon my way, From the cross the radiance streaming Adds more luster to the day.

Bane and blessing, pain and pleasure By the cross are sanctified; Peace is there that knows no measure, Joys that through all time abide.

BENEDICTION

CLOSING HYMN “Jesus, Refuge of the Weary” LSB #423

Jesus, refuge of the weary, Blest Redeemer, whom we love, Fountain in life’s desert dreary, Savior from the world above: Often have Your eyes, offended, Gazed upon the sinner’s fall; Yet upon the cross extended You have borne the pain of all.

Do we pass that cross unheeding, Breathing no repentant vow, Though we see You wounded, bleeding, See Your thorn-encircled brow? Yet Your sinless death has brought us Life eternal, peace, and rest; Only what Your grace has taught us Calms the sinner’s deep distress.

Jesus, may our hearts be burning With more fervent love for You; May our eyes be ever turning To behold Your cross anew Till in glory, parted never

- 7 - From the blessed Savior’s side, Graven in our hearts forever, Dwell the cross, the Crucified.
