IThe combination, desired by the Contest organizers: “relationship between nature and culture”, seems to me to be particularly appropriate and stimulating. In effect, it testifies that, with the passage of time, we are increa- singly aware that culture, in its broadest meaning, implies, not only, the commitment of a few in relation to the many to whom it proposes to pass on values and testimonies that go through the centuries ..., but also that, in its broad meaning (“holistic”), it ensures a “lasting and convinced defense” even of nature itself. A quick look at the works of the different schools, located in different territories of the metropolitan area, shows the sensitivity with which students are going to deal with one of the most complex contemporary issues, no longer postponable: the relationship between culture, mainly the occidental one, and the conservation of the natural heritage. Works testify that the desensitization of contemporary man towards nature and the historical heritage, that only nature is able to preserve, finds its roots in the indifference and superficiality of behavior. The short-sighted selfishness of post-industrial man leads him to forget that every historical/natural heritage belongs to the of whole of humanity, so it must be defended and safeguarded. The “natural territory” has no borders, it is undivided property of all. The real cultural gain for the whole of humanity does not pass only throu- gh the sharing of scientific discoveries, but implies a new global “attitude” towards nature, that is its protection. Analyzing the students’ works and reading their explicit references, it is particularly pleasing to verify that they are the result of sound spontaneity, so that in the future we can certainly hope for a new sensitivity to the eco- logical issue. Therefore it will no longer remain an empty reference of agreements between states, always divi- ded, but it will be the foundation of a new culture that has broadened its horizons towards the enhancement of nature. Finally, I would like to add my voice to the thanks, already expressed by others, to all the participants who, for various reasons, have made a fruitful effort to improve the work of the Permanent Observatory of the historic centre of Naples, a UNESCO site. INTRODUCTION The purpose of this week of the program is to be faithful to paragraph 50 of the Constitutions, which instructs us about our Vincentian Family. 50. We should cherish devotion to Saint Vincent and to the canonized and beatified members of the Vincentian Family. We should constantly return to the heritage of our Founder, expressed in his writings and in the tradition of the Congregation, that we may learn to love what he loved and practice what he taught. As you can see, we are really interested in just the first sentence of this paragraph. Nevertheless it tells us a great deal. We could approach this subject hagiographically: that is, in the worst sense of the term, to look at these saints and blesseds as the models of every Vincentian virtue, searching their lives for examples of these, marveling at them, and drawing out lesson for our personal daily living. You are certainly free to do so, and during these hours together, I will display several items of interest which could be read, as well as a bibliography.     The Business Organization of the Bourbon Factories: Mastercraftsmen, Crafts, and Families in the Capodimonte Porcelain Works and the Royal Factory at San Leucio Silvana Musella Guida Without exaggerating what was known as the “heroic age” of the reign of Charles of Bourbon of which José Joaquim de Montealegre was the undisputed doyen, and without considering the controversial developments of manufacturing in Campania, I should like to look again at manufacturing under the Bourbons and to offer a new point of view. Not only evaluating its development in terms of the products themselves, I will consider the company's organization and production strategies, points that are often overlooked, but which alone can account for any innovative capacity and the willingness of the new government to produce broader-ranging results.1 The two case studies presented here—the porcelain factory at Capodimonte (1740-1759) and the textile factory in San Leucio (1789-1860)—though from different time periods and promoted by different governments, should be considered sequentially precisely because of their ability to impose systemic innovations.2 The arrival of the new sovereign in the company of José Joaquin de Montealegre, led to an activism which would have a lasting effect.3 The former was au fait with economic policy strategy and the driving force of a great period of economic modernization, and his repercussions on the political, diplomatic and commercial levels provide 1 For Montealegre, cf. Il 18 settembre 1826 indossó il saio cappuccino nella chiesa della Madonna di Campagna di Torino e prese il nome di Guglielmo. Venne ordinato sacerdote nel 1832. Ricoprì incarico di Cappellano dell’Ospizio Mauriziano di Torino ove apprese le nozioni di׳l medicina e chirurgia che poi applicò in Etiopia. Fu assistente spirituale del futuro Re Vittorio Emanuele II, Confessore del Cottolengo e dello scrittore Silvio Pellico. Nel 1846 Papa Gregorio XVI lo nominò Vicario Apostolico della popolazione etiopica dei Galla, per raggiungere la quale dovette risalire il Nilo ed attraversare il deserto travestito da mercante arabo. Lì passò, tra alterne vicende, 35 anni di missione. Papa Leone XIII lo promosse prima Arcivescovo e poi Cardinale nel 1884. Alla morte di Massaia, avvenuta a San Giorgio a Cremano (Napoli) il 6 agosto 1889, lo stesso Pontefice esclamò: “È morto un Santo!”.

GURTWEIL, the origin of the name goes back to a Merovingian-Frankish settlement: GURTWILA (CURTVILLA) - curtis - a large estate (at the place of the castle) - villa, villare - a small hamlet (North to the estate a few houses, the villa) The first written document regarding GURTWILA dates from 873. It testifies to the fact that Count Adibreht made Gurtweil over to the Monastery of Rheinau; about 20 years later, it belongs to the Monastery of St. Gallen (CH); by the end of the 12th century St. Gallen had lost its rights over Gurtweil in favour of 'secular' Lords. In 1646 the property was sold to the Monastery of St. Blasien. With the secularization and the suppression of the Monastery, the area fell to Baden in 1807, and much of the property was sold to individuals. (cf. LEO BERINGER, Geschichte des Dorfes Gurtweil, 1960, S. 25f) 6. The house was owned by the Jordan family from 1842-1894. After 1878, it was built up with bricks, the windows on the first floor and the outside stairway were added, and the roof was covered with tiles.     Archaeological Area of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata, Italy, n. 829 1. Executive summary of the report Soon after the collapse of the Schola Armaturarum, UNESCO carried out several missions, involving ICOMOS and UNESCO experts, at the sites of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata, specifically on 2-4 December 2010 and 10 – 13 January 2011, on 7-10 January 2013 and 8-12 November 2014. These inspections led to the formulation of a set of recommendations, which have ultimately been summarised in decision 39 COM 7B, adopted at the 39th meeting of the World Heritage Committee, to which this report is a reply. Over the years, many steps forward have been made in the conservation and management of the property. Regarding the Grande Progetto Pompeii (Great Pompeii Project), the State Party has ensured its continuation with a further European financing of 45 M€ and by maintaining the General Project Management organisation and the Great Pompeii Unit until 31 December 2019. A further two items of funding have been received: 40 M€ from the Italian government and 75 M€ from the Special Superintendency of Pompeii, which has been granted financial, administrative and management autonomy. The more recent inspection by UNESCO/ICOMOS identified 5 buildings at risk in the site of Pompeii: Casa dei Casti Amanti, Casa delle Nozze d’argento, Schola Armaturarum, Casa di Trebius Valens and Casa dei Ceii. Conservation interventions were then planned for all these buildings, which, to date, are either still underway or have been completed, or which will soon start. Almost all the legal problems that prevented the start of the works have been solved and now it will be possible to carry out the safety works on and restore the structures of the Schola Armaturarum; open the Antiquarium to the public; and continue the improvement works on the Casina dell’Aquila.
