E-mail: Abstract: Quantification of butterfly diversity and species richness is of prime importance for evaluating the status of protected areas. Permanent line transect counts were used to record species richness and abundance of butterfly communities of different habitat types in Trishna wildlife sanctuary. A total of 1005 individuals representing 59 species in 48 genera belonging to five families were recorded in the present study. Of these, 23 species belonged to the family Nymphalidae and accounted for 38.98% of the total species and 45.20% of the total number of individuals. Mature secondary mixed moist deciduous forest showed the maximum diversity and species richness, while exotic grassland showed minimum diversity and species richness. Out of 59 species, 31 are new records for Tripura state, while 21 are unique species and nine are listed in the threatened category. This study revealed that mature secondary forests are more important for butterfly communities, while exotic grasslands have a negative impact on species composition. Warud, District Amravati, Maharashtra. Dr. Manohar Khode alongwith birder friend Mr. P. D. Lad had gone to birdwatching on 31st October 1993 at Pandhari reservoir near Warud in Amravati district of Maharashtra. They got a pleasant surprise when they saw a flock of large birds looking somewhat like domestic goose but grey-brown in colour. The size was as big as Barheaded Goose (Anser indicus) but they were different in colouration. On comparison with colour plates in the Pictorial Guide (1995) they identified the geese as Greylag Goose (Anser anser). Total 11 geese were sighted here. Thereafter a follow up was kept every year at the Pandhari reservoir in winter. However Greylag Goose was not sighted again. Probably this flock was vagrant. The Greylag Goose is large goose with overall gray colour, pink bill and pink legs. It is winter a visitor to the northern subcontinent. On 31st December 2006, the authors (RK, AP, GT) visited Shiregaon Bandh reservoir near Navegaon Bandh Sanctuary in Gondia district of Maharashtra. Again authors visited Shiregaon Bandh reservoir on 1st January 2007. From the roadside we could see few Greylag Goose at the far end of the reservoir. Then we visited the backside of the reservoir. -

Therefore, the current study was designed and carried out during the past decade. A list of LFPs for 207 butterfly species (Super family Papilionoidea) of Sri Lanka is presented based on local studies and includes 785 plant-butterfly combinations and 480 plant species. Many of these combinations are reported for the first time in Sri Lanka. The impact of introducing new plants on the dynamics of abundance and distribution of butterflies, the possibility of butterflies being pests on crops, and observations of LFPs of rare butterfly species, are discussed. ABSTRACT Butterflies, with unsurpassable beauty, play a vital role in thebiodiversity mainly being the pollinators for the plants. A study based on butterfly diversity was conducted at the “Raaj Kamal Butterfly Garden”, CUTM, Bhubaneshwar campus during the period of December, 2019 to March, 2020 from 8:30 AM to 5 PM. This survey is a step ahead towards the development of geographical studies, larval interactions and relationships of the butterflies and other insects with the plants and animals directly or indirectly. As from previous studies, about 50 species of butterflies are found to be present in the pre-described place.From which the recent survey in this region has been capable to identify 13 species of them during the above said period of time. And for the time being other species are conserved for the future reference. Most of the species were observed around belong to the family: Pieridae and Nymphalidae. The new species can be differentiated from its congeners by the following characteristics: a small size with a maximum standard length (SL) of 90 mm; body and fins entirely brownish-yellow without distinct markings; a relatively short pectoral spine (3.7–6.5 % SL); a reduced body-width at pectoral-fin base (15.5–17.9 % SL); 50–54 caudal-fin rays; 6–8 gill rakers; 2–3 (mostly 3) serrations on pectoral fin; 60–110 eggs per gravid female.
