U I enjoyed my very first IC and hope to make it to another one sometime. It won’t be next year, unfortunately. A According to Tammy Willcox, our Scholarship director, she, Bran Stimpson and Linda Olsen have an email R exchange going on regarding some fliers/tri-folds to be used to promote the scholarship program both internally via membership packets and possible recruiting at T colleges and/or conventions and events where STARFLEET members are recruiting people. A miffed Robards responds that, on the contrary, "My dear Mrs. Vole, in our courts we will accept the evidence of witnesses who speak only Bulgarian and who must have an interpreter. -
Deadwood – a Genre Analysis
Deadwood – a Genre Analysis ”You cocksucker!” – Al Swearengen 1 Abstract The following thesis takes into consideration the topic of genre, more specifically the western genre. My object of study is the HBO series Deadwood (2004-06) created By David Milch. The purpose of this thesis is to show how Deadwood relates to the western genre, and how it diverges from the traditional depiction of the western mythology. For the purpose of the analysis, my theoretical framework will consist of relevant theories within the theoretical field of genre. My theory is derived from the anthology comprised By Barry Keith Grant called Film Genre Reader IV. My theory section deals with the proBlems concerning the definition of genre, more specifically how we categorise genres. For this part my theory starts with a discussion of the problems arising from genre analysis. Hereon follows a discussion of relevant theories and methods within the framework of genre. I include in this section Edward Buscombe’s method on inner and outer form of genre; Rick Altman’s method on Semantic and Syntactic relations; Ideology which is derived from the workings of Rick Altman, RoBin Wood, and BarBara Klinger; a section concerning myth based on Barry Keith Grant’s notions of myth in genres; furthermore I discuss the issue of characters within genre, as it is a suBject important within the analysis of a TV series. My analysis consists of two parts. The first part is a historical overlook of the western genre, in which I take into consideration the various conventions, narratives, semantic traits, the mythic connections, and the ideological perspective of the genre. -

ADDITIONAL CAST BIOGRAPHIES SEASON 2 ERIC PETERSON (THE CARETAKER) Veteran Canadian actor Eric Peterson is noted for co-creating and originating Billy Bishop Goes to War on stage for television and feature film. His stage career includes hundreds of plays on most major stages across Canada, as well as Broadway, London’s West End, the Edinburgh Festival and the Melbourne International Arts Festival. His work in Canadian film and television includes such credits as Peter Moss’ miniseries “The Best Laid Plans,” Jerry Ciccoritti’s Trudeau and Deepa Mehta’s Earth. In addition to guest star appearances on series such as “What Would Sal Do,” “Slings and Arrows,” “DaVinci’s Inquest,” “Murdoch Mysteries,” “Dan for Mayor,” “Republic of Doyle” and “Cracked,” he has had series-regular roles, including Leon Robinovich in “Street Legal,” Judge Malone on “This Is Wonderland” and Oscar Leroy on both the long- running show “Corner Gas” and the new show “Corner Gas Animated.” Peterson was the recipient of the Gordon Pinsent Award of Excellence in 2009 for his theater work, as well as the Earle Grey Award, which is a lifetime achievement award for his film and television endeavors. He holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Saskatchewan, is a recipient of the Governor General’s Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award (Theater) and is a member of the Order of Canada. ANDREW KOJI (CEO) Andrew Koji stars in the Bruce Lee–inspired HBO/Cinemax upcoming series “Warrior” from Jonathan Tropper (Banshee). Past television work includes “Call the Midwife,” “Casualty” and “The Wrong Mans” with James Corden. (Left) A visualization — initially a pie chart — is edited with a generative visualization toolkit on the left, such as D3, as well as with a drawing program on the right, such as Illustrator. Changes from both tools are merged into the final visualization. (Right) For such a process to be possible, we propose a bridge model that describes out edits from two tools can be combined. This model identifies edits that can be shared, as well as those that cannot, and merges them together with a careful consideration of potential conflicts. The resulting visualization can then reintegrated into the two tools, supporting further iterations. Abstract—A common workflow for visualization designers begins with a generative tool, like D3 or Processing, to create the initial visualization; and proceeds to a drawing tool, like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape, for editing and cleaning. Unfortunately, this is typically a one-way process: once a visualization is exported from the generative tool into a drawing tool, it is difficult to make further, data- driven changes. In this paper, we propose a bridge model to allow designers to bring their work back from the drawing tool to re-edit in the generative tool.
