Dining Experience Extraordinaire!!! What a GORGEOUS Scandinavian Modern style dining set of 6 by Art Furn of Denmark!! We have 4 side and 2 armchairs to offer you. They are comprised of solid stunning slender rosewood frames with a classic , and they wear a lovely nubby off-white fabric upholstery which we think may have been applied at some point in their life over a black vinyl fabric under the seats and an orange and yellow tweed-like fabric on the backs. We would have loved to try to expose the original, but the backs of the chair backs have been adhered with an adhesive and we were unable to see what was underneath. They are sturdy and comfortable. They would be absolutely beautiful at your Scandinavian modern style dining table, but they have a prevalent Danish tone that will blend in beautifully with any design style. We are in LOVE with this magnificent set of six dining chairs by Art Furn…you must be too? Now, just make them yours!!

The back rests are a unique rounded or crescent shaped double bar design, and the legs are long, slender, and straight and connected with an x stretcher and a slender black bar for your feet. This is the perfect trio to place alongside your bar or if you have a tall pub style table, these stools will accent it nicely. They are of superior quality, in wonderful vintage condition, and constructed in a classic Scandinavian Modern design. We adore them and surely you do too…you MUST make them yours!

This gorgeous expanding teak dining table can go from serving four to eight in a matter of seconds! In the style of the iconic Dyrlund, this table is comprised of a distinctive Danish style trestle base and amazing teak oval top. When not in use, the integral leaf is hidden under the top surface. When you need it, simply pull the table on both ends and fold it out…very convenient. The edges of the top have a softened bullnose profile which shows off the interesting joinery. The smooth clean lines of this Scandinavian mid-century table will beautifully blend with many interior design styles from to modern country or a mountain rustic house, and from mid-century modern to industrial or a home with a western flair. Price: $2,995 Holy cow! This Scandinavian Modern cabinet attributed to Dyrlund is gorgeous. And I am trying my darnedest to figure out the best way to describe its beauty. So here goes…the buffet base has an outer frame that creates a bowed side rectangular recess for two sliding solid doors on either side of a bank of six drawers. And the curves do not stop there. The drawer fronts have an upper and a lower arc which cause the fronts to have a bowtie effect and a spear-shape recess where the drawers border one another for the handles. The three top drawers are felt lined for silver. This buffet credenza is simply outstanding. It is topped by a china hutch display cabinet (or bookcase in my house!) with two double opening sets of glass fronted doors which are framed by that same bowed frame as the buffet creating a soft look to the glass. Inside this lighted display are four glass adjustable shelves, two in either compartment. This awesome display cabinet (or maybe it’s a dry bar?) will look amazing wherever you place it whether in the dining room, living room, study, or even the kitchen. And will look like it fits right in whether your design style leans to mid-century modern, Scandinavian Modern, industrial, southwestern, or modern country. Just do it. Make it yours. Price: $3,995

Oh, my goodness this is a marvelous iconic Scandinavian Modern dining chair! And to get them as a set of eight, not to mention in rosewood, is unthinkable. Plus, they are in fantastic condition. They were designed by Poul M. Volther circa 1960s and produced by Frem Røjle in Denmark. They are comprised of four round tapered legs with the front two stopping at the seat top and the back two continuing up as the back-support posts. The back is a simple bowed band of rosewood between the two posts. The seat is comprised of a beautiful basket weave paper cord. Four of the chairs have the original cord and four have just been re-done. This set of eight chairs will be incredible around whatever table you choose.

Poul M. Volther (1923-2001), a Danish furniture and lighting designer, was trained as a cabinetmaker but later obtained his architect degree from the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts. Volther belonged to the mid-20th century generation of great Danish architects and designers ushering in the notable era of Scandinavian Modern functional high quality and artistically beautiful furnishings. Not only did Volther create a large body of work, most notably his Corona Chair, but as a teacher he influenced hundreds of future furniture architects and designers desire for quality craftsmanship.

Not many verifiable details can be found about Danish furniture manufacturing company Frem Røjle. But the evidence of the company’s post war success is found in all the highly prized and collectable furniture with their seal. Most notably by Hans Olsen and Poul Volther. These pieces exemplify the Danish mid- century Scandinavian Modern style with their fine materials, sculptural silhouettes, tapered legs, and expert joinery.

Do not hesitate to make this fabulous set of mid-20th century Scandinavian Modern dining chairs your own!

Oh, my goodness!!! I could not believe my eyes when my husband brought this to me from our stash room. I had totally forgotten about it. This is the iconic Scandinavian Modern Z chair from Selig. And, it is wearing its original phenomenal mod floral fabric. This chair has had quite the controversy over its designer. It has been touted to have been designed by three different Danish designers, , Poul Jensen and Ib Kofod Larsen. But is seems the consensus by most is Poul Jensen. However, there are those who still feel it was Larsen. Regardless it is amazing. We did restore the walnut frame with its typical low slung mid-century Scandinavian design and fantastic Z shaped arms and sides to its original glory. And we had new foam inserted in the original cushions in order to keep their amazing red, orange, purple, and yellow floral fabric. So, it is ready to use wherever your heart desires.

Selig Furniture was founded in 1931 in Gardner, Massachusetts by Mendell Selig and Samuel Wexler. By the 1950s, under the guidance of Samuel’s son, Robert, Selig grew to be one of the leading importers and producers of contemporary furniture in America. They focused on high end designs with most coming from Denmark, other Scandinavian countries, and Italy. Responsible for bringing the Scandinavian Modern master designers to the American public they helped to popularize the modern interior design style that was taking the country by storm during the post-war era. By the time they sold to mattress producer Simmons in the 1970s they had five American factories.

This Z lounge chair is an icon of mid-century Scandinavian design and you should make it yours.

This one is Scandinavian Modern marked Made in Denmark and comprised of a teak hollow pillar with a square top surface and taller rectangular sides. The top surface has grooves to accept the edges of the flat chrome steel tubes which form a cross or X pattern. Then the glass square sits atop this simple yet striking base. It’s simply stunning and handy to boot! It is the perfect little table to sit beside your favorite mid-century modern chair where you can place a cocktail or a cup of coffee on the glass without worry of harm. I’m sure once you have this cool little table you will find a dozen places to use it. Just make it yours!

Price: $895 Just look at this phenomenal pair of Scandinavian Modern lounge chairs! These were designed in the 1960s by famed Danish designer Ib Kofod-Larsen for Selig. They are comprised of a solid and sturdy walnut-stained beechwood frame that has angled legs and a sculptural slatted back. The slats themselves are a work of art with their angled backsides. Those slats are held in place with a bowed perpendicular support. Combine all this with their signature paddle-shaped armrests and their silhouette is amazing from all sides. We have upholstered their new high- density foam loose seat and back cushions with a fabulous new old stock (NOS) red, gold, and orange striped fabric which we have applied horizontally accenting their mid-century modern low and long appearance. The strapping has a different installation on each chair we believe depicting an age difference and only one retains its original tag.

Ib Kofod-Larsen (1921-2003) was a native of Denmark and studied at the Danish Royal Academy in Copenhagen. He won, in 1948, the Holmegaard glass competition and an annual award from the Danish Cabinetmakers Guild which garnered him attention from Faarup Mobelfabrik where he went on to create some of his most beautiful works. He also designed for several other companies including High Wycombe, Christensen & Larsen, Carlo Ghrn, Bovenkamp, Fredericia Furniture, and, Petersens. He also found great success with the Selig company, who imported and sold thousands of pieces, mostly seating, to the U.S. market starting in the 1950s. His items are extremely sought after in the vintage market.

This pair will be awesome wherever you use them. Make the set yours!

This is an amazingly beautiful king size bed! California king to be exact. It even comes with its own attached swing-arm nightstands! Its style is mid-century Scandinavian Modern or Danish Modern and it was created by Dyrlund of Denmark circa 1960s-1980s. Dyrlund was founded in 1960 and continues today producing fine quality furniture for high end homes and executive offices. This bed is comprised of teak with a platform style frame which is supported by the storage headboard and two large square recessed legs that allow the bed to look as if it is floating in midair cantilevered off the headboard. The headboard itself is 11.75 inches in depth with slanted drop- front doors allowing for bedding or pillow storage within. The top of the headboard is mantle-like and extends like wings out beyond the frame width making it float above the swing-arm nightstands which are mounted to the siderails. All these details making this a very handy and gorgeous bed indeed. As you can see from the photos the back is finished and almost as beautiful as its front. So, floating this bed in the room is possible which will seriously give the illusion of sleeping on air! Useful…beautiful…sophisticated…and very well made. This is the perfect bed for your mid-century modern home or maybe your industrial loft! You need to make it yours!

This chair had me so confused and maybe I still am a bit. The Kevi task chair was originally designed in 1958 by Jorgen Rasmussen and his twin brother Ib Rasmussen. It has been produced and/or sold/distributed by many companies and the companies have changed names, changed hands and any number of things. Thus, the confusion. This iteration of the Kevi task chair is marked Rabami Made in Denmark and was produced in the 1990s. It is comprised of white plastic and white metal with royal blue upholstered seat and back. It has the famous Kevi casters and all the adjustments. It has always been a favorite chair of architect and designers for its minimal look but sturdiness and its ergonomic assets. So, make this comfy chair yours!

If you are looking for an icon of mid-century modern – Scandinavian Modern design, look no further. And if you are wanting a beautiful and functional desk for your home or office, look no further. This fabulous desk was designed circa 1950s-1960s by the famed and produced by his company Jens Risom Designs, Inc. It is comprised of walnut, one of my favorite woods, in solid form and veneer. Even its sculptural drawer pulls are walnut. It boasts two stacks of drawers and a center pencil drawer. The right stack is made up of two equal depth drawers on the bottom topped by one more shallow locking drawer and a pull-out work surface. The left stack is made up of one lower file drawer topped by a shallow locking drawer and a pull-out work surface. The privacy panel and drawer stacks are recessed from the front of the desk providing knee space for visitors or a partner to be able to reach the work surface. Its sleek lines are simply stunning.

Jens Risom (1916-2016) was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and came by his talent naturally from his father, Sven Risom, a member of the school of Nordic Classicism. Risom trained as a designer under and along with fellow classmates and Borge Mogensen at the Copenhagen School of Industrial Arts and Design. He went on to business college before working and later relocated to Stockholm where, through his work at Nordiska Kompaniet, he was introduced to Alvar Aalto and Bruno Mathsson. In 1939 Jens emigrated to the United States. His big breakthrough and opportunity came when he met Hans Knoll. Together he and Hans launched an icon, Hans Knoll Furniture Company which is now Knoll International. Jens Risom is considered responsible for introducing Danish modern furniture to the United States. Fifteen of the twenty initial offerings in the inaugural Knoll catalog were designed by Risom. He left Knoll in 1946 and founded Jens Risom Design, Inc. You cannot obtain more true mid-century modern design classics than pieces by Jens Risom.

It is comprised of all teak veneer in typical Danish design with no hardware on its three equal height full-width drawers. It is just right for a small entry, dining room or living room. Or, use it as a nightstand. Of course, it is just right for your mid-century modern or Scandinavian Modern home, but it also complements many other décor styles such as modern country or industrial loft. Price: $995 Wow! Just look at this fabulous arctic blue Fionia centerpiece bowl produced by Holmegaard and designed by Per Lutken. This piece is signed and dated 1957 with the PL initials. It is in great vintage condition with no chips, cracks or chiggers. It does, however, have a few bottom scratches but does not distract from its amazing beauty. It is just gorgeous with its clear icy arctic blue color and mid-century biomorphic flowing tricorn or trilobed shape.

Per Lutken began his career with Holmegaard in 1942 and remained there until his death in 1998. Many of his more than 3000 designs have become classics. He was known for being a perfectionist and for telling the glass blowers who might complain about his designs being too difficult, “Well, who said things were supposed to be easy?”

This is one of those difficult but extraordinary designs. Make this one yours.

Price: $550 This is the perfect dining table for small spaces! It is compact yet will seat four to six people when closed and six to eight when fully extended, depending upon chair width. The table top, aprons, and leaves are comprised of solid wood with teak veneer and the round turned and tapered legs are solid teak. It features two retractable draw leaf extensions which slide in and out easily and store simply beneath the top. Although considered mid-century modern, Scandinavian Modern, or Danish Modern in design and typically used for those interior design styles, I can visualize this table mixed with an industrial or modern country design styles as well. You just need to make this beautiful simple table yours and put your imagination to work.

Price: $1,195 This coffee table is so visually pleasing. I love the combination of the warm teak wood with the black painted metal. It is stamped on the underside with Made in Denmark and the number 715; however, we have yet been unable to determine the maker or designer. The stamp is like that used on furniture by Niels Bach but we have not been able to tie this table to him. The table is comprised of a teak top that has a very sharp angled edge band of teak. No rounded edges that is so prevalent in Danish furniture. The legs consist of square tube steel that has been welded into an H shape which makes a pair of legs at each end that are then screwed into the teak top with a Y support bracket. Each of the four legs has a portion of squared teak wood inserted into the hollow tube to make a contrasting foot or sabot. The details combine to become a very handsome look. This is one of my favorite pieces in our offerings right now. You should hurry and make it yours.

The first is a set of six steak knives and the second is a three-piece cutlery serving set comprised of large carving knife, smaller carving knife, and meat fork. They are priced together. Price: $295 Beautiful and simple. This is the wonderful vintage mid century modern swedish Hellas vase by Per Lutken for Holmegaard. Smoke Gray, signed, dated 1961, and in incredibly great vintage condition. No chips, cracks or chiggers.

Price: $195

This entire vintage Scandinavian Modern teak king size platform bed is fabulous; but, there are two really outstanding features I want to point out. The first is the night stands which are attached to the headboard. Awesome. The second is the way the headboard itself is not attached to the platform, but floats on the wall separately. Meaning you can hang it at any height on the wall to accommodate any thickness in a mattress. So nice considering the thickness of mattresses these days. Its other fine features are its sublime sleek simplicity and the warm and wonderful teak wood finish. The grain runs horizontally which accents its modern low slung feel no matter at what height you hang the headboard. It is in wonderful vintage condition. There are some spots on the wood which we have photographed but the overall look and condition are great. We haven’t found a makers mark on this piece nor have we found the exact bed in our research; however, we do have the original invoice dated 8/31/70 when it was purchased from Scandinavian Design, Inc. in Evanston, Illinois. If you are looking for a contemporary style king size bed you shouldn’t pass this one.

This is a fabulous Modernist or Brutalist pewter jewelry set and in an unusual combination of bracelet and cufflinks. Made circa 1960’s -1970’s in Denmark by Lysgards Design. It is signed Lysgards Design, made in Denmark, Tin, 91. Though little is known about Lysgards Design we do know they worked primarily for other jewelry companies; however, the pieces they made for themselves were done in limited editions, hence the #91, and were sold in luxurious up-scale shops. I can’t quite decide how to describe these pieces but here is my best try. The bracelet is made up of five sections consisting of a stylized flattened ¾ x ¾ inch nugget with a smooth ¼ inch ball of pewter in the center connected by a single link and closes with a large toggle clasp. The cufflinks are a single flattened nugget with pewter ball ¾ x ¾ inch. This set is in like-new condition. It is sure to be the topic of conversation whenever it is worn.
