Dining Experience Extraordinaire!!! What a GORGEOUS Scandinavian Modern style dining set of 6 by Art Furn of Denmark!! We have 4 side and 2 armchairs to offer you. They are comprised of solid stunning slender rosewood frames with a classic , and they wear a lovely nubby off-white fabric upholstery which we think may have been applied at some point in their life over a black vinyl fabric under the seats and an orange and yellow tweed-like fabric on the backs. We would have loved to try to expose the original, but the backs of the chair backs have been adhered with an adhesive and we were unable to see what was underneath. They are sturdy and comfortable. They would be absolutely beautiful at your Scandinavian modern style dining table, but they have a prevalent Danish tone that will blend in beautifully with any design style. We are in LOVE with this magnificent set of six dining chairs by Art Furn…you must be too? Now, just make them yours!!

Price: $5,995

Here is a wonderful threesome of awesome examples of trays, or a couple could be cutting boards, from the wonderful design mind of Jens Quistgaard and made exquisitely by Dansk Designs. This varied set will look magnificent displayed on your counter or in a cabinet and will certainly be beautiful on your table.

Jens Harald Quistgaard was an outstanding and prolific designer. Born April 23, 1919 and raised in he showed his talent early creating a workshop in his mother’s kitchen. He was trained in sculpture by his father, Harald Quistgaard, but furthered his artistic education at the technical school in Copenhagen. He designed for many different companies early in his career, but his big break came when he met Martha and Ted Nierenberg the founders of Dansk Designs. Jens helped them to create Dansk and became their primary and chief designer. He remained in that position designing hundreds of items and even the Nierenberg’s home until the early 1980s when he moved to Rome. He returned to Denmark around 1992 a renowned and award- winning designer continuing to work until just prior to his death in 2008.

Dansk Designs, contrary to popular belief, is an American company not Danish. Founded in 1954 by Martha and Ted Nierenberg who traveled to Europe in search of new products to bring to the U.S. post war audience who were ready for a change from the formal lives they had been living and ready to embrace a more modern and simple way. The Scandinavian Modern Designs fit that bill perfectly. And the Nierenbergs engaged Jens Harald Quistgaard to help them accomplish this task. And….that they did. It’s been said that Ted and Jens made one good industrial designer. Jens with his beautiful designs and Ted with knowing how they had to be made to be affordable. Dansk Designs was purchased in 1985 by Dansk Acquisition Corp initiated by Goldman Sachs. Then in 1991 it was purchased by Brown-Forman Corporation’s Lenox division. 2009 brought the most recent change when it was all purchased and renamed Lenox Corporation. Currently Dansk operates as a brand of Lenox and still makes beautiful wares. But it is its vintage pieces which are most sought after today.

We have priced them as a set because I don’t know how you would choose just one. Make them yours!

Price: $1,125 Did you already set the table for four only to find out the in- laws are coming for dinner? No worries! This gorgeous expanding teak dining table can go from serving four to eight in a matter of seconds! In the style of the iconic Dyrlund, this table is comprised of a distinctive Danish style trestle base and amazing teak oval top. There is a bit of “bubbling” on the veneer surface of the tabletop and the leaf, but we don’t think it distracts from its beauty. Just something to be expected from a vintage piece. When not in use, the integral leaf is hidden under the top surface. When you need it, simply pull the table on both ends and fold it out…very convenient. The edges of the top have a softened bullnose profile which shows off the interesting joinery. The smooth clean lines of this Scandinavian mid-century table will beautifully blend with many interior design styles from to modern country or a mountain rustic house, and from mid-century modern to industrial or a home with a western flair. It is perfect for a growing family or someone who loves to entertain. And chair options are limitless! You need to make it yours!!

Price: $2,495 Breathtaking and Beautiful!! This incredible lighted Scandinavian mid-century modern Danish display cabinet (or you could use it as a bookcase or dry bar) is comprised of two separate pieces. The top is easily removed to leave you with a smaller sized buffet or server if you so desire. There are three tall single opening doors with glass fronts on the top china hutch and three single opening doors with teak veneer fronts on the bottom buffet. The two left doors are right opening, and the one right door is left opening for both the top and bottom sets of doors. There is no surface hardware to interfere with the stunning sleek natural teak surfaces. The “handles” are created by grooved edges on the inside edge of each door. There are two glass shelves in each upper section to display your fine china; art glass or pottery collection; barware; or books and one teak shelf in each lower section allowing for tons of storage space. This is a beautifully crafted, highly functional piece of Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern furniture, you need to make it yours!

Price: $3,995 I love these Dansk candle holders! And the research finding out about them has made me love them even more. This pair of candle holders is one style of three that were designed by Borje Rajalin rather than Jens Quistgaard for the black iron “Design with Light” series of Dansk candle holders. This pair is comprised of a circle made up of a series of eight round cups with a spike in the middle of the bottom of each cup to form legs and a spike in the middle of the top of each to accept a slim taper candle with a hole in the bottom made just for these candle holders. This style is named Circlet item 1762. They are marked with Dansk and the IBR indicating Borje Rajalin. When Quistgaard was designing the first candle holders in this series he found he also had to design and have Dansk make the very specific candles. This shows how complete the detail of these iconic Dansk designs.

Borje Bernhard Rajalin was born in Helsinki in 1933. He is a Finnish artist, industrial designer, and silversmith. He is a graduate of the School of Art and Design and worked many years as the head of its metal art department. He also worked many years as the Chief Designer of Kalevala Koru Jewelry. He won many awards over the years for his designs. But his most significant design was a collaboration with Antti Nurmesnieme on the Helsinki Metro. It has been said the metro is as beautiful as a jewel. Three candle holders for the Dansk “Design with Light” series are among his list of successful and beautiful designs.

Contrary to popular belief, Dansk Designs is an American company not Danish. Founded in 1954 by Martha and Ted Nierenberg who traveled to Europe in search of new products to bring to the U.S. post war audience who were ready for a change from the formal lives they had been living and ready to embrace a more modern and simple way. Currently Dansk operates as a brand of Lenox and still makes beautiful wares. But it is its vintage pieces which are most sought after today.

Obviously, this set of Circlet candle holders will look fabulous on your table filled with those awesome skinny candles, but being the small sculpture they are, they even look exceptional empty. You know you love them. Make them yours.

Most people know that Ekornes is a Norwegian company. What you may not know, is Ekornes began in the mattress industry. The journey starts in 1934 with founder J.E. Ekornes. At that time, Ekornes was manufacturing springs for furniture companies in the area, and soon after, all throughout . In 1947, Ekornes made a huge leap into the production of wooden furniture frames and parts for day beds and sofa beds. And soon after, they began production of their own mattresses. Their foamed plastics changed the mattress industry. By the time 1966 came around, Ekornes was releasing it’s newest and first collection of lounge furniture. This made Ekornes the first furniture manufacturer in Norway! Ekornes quickly became a household name in their country and in 1971 the Stressless Recliner was introduced. At the time, no one at Ekornes knew that the introduction of this early model Stressless chair would soon become the bulk of their business. Just 5 years after, The Stressless Brand alone hit the 100 million Norwegian Krone mark! In 1994, Ekornes celebrated it’s 60th anniversary and by 1996 the Stressless Chair had been on the market for 25 years. In March of 2001, Ekornes opened it’s famous showroom “Ekornes Bua” in Alesund, Norway and between 2002 and 2007, showrooms were opening up all over the world: Sao Paulo, Paris, Las Vegas, Berlin, and several more cities in Europe, Asia and The United States. They are still in production today.

These chairs would be perfect for you and your sweetie to lounge in on movie night. You just need to make them yours!

Price: $2,995 Holy cow! This Scandinavian Modern cabinet attributed to Dyrlund is gorgeous. And I am trying my darnedest to figure out the best way to describe its beauty. So here goes…the buffet base has an outer frame that creates a bowed side rectangular recess for two sliding solid doors on either side of a bank of six drawers. And the curves do not stop there. The drawer fronts have an upper and a lower arc which cause the fronts to have a bowtie effect and a spear-shape recess where the drawers border one another for the handles. The three top drawers are felt lined for silver. This buffet credenza is simply outstanding. It is topped by a china hutch display cabinet (or bookcase in my house!) with two double opening sets of glass fronted doors which are framed by that same bowed frame as the buffet creating a soft look to the glass. Inside this lighted display are four glass adjustable shelves, two in either compartment. This awesome display cabinet (or maybe it’s a dry bar?) will look amazing wherever you place it whether in the dining room, living room, study, or even the kitchen. And will look like it fits right in whether your design style leans to mid-century modern, Scandinavian Modern, industrial, southwestern, or modern country. Just do it. Make it yours. Price: $3,995

My husband says this is the most comfortable chair he has ever “lounged” in…EVER! And it is extremely hard to find a chair that fits his six-foot three-inch frame. I say it is one of the most beautiful chairs I have ever seen, and its design is attributed to Arnt Lande for Stokke furniture manufacturer in Aalesund Norway. With that combination how could you possibly go wrong? This phenomenal reclining lounge chair is comprised of a teak frame made in the Scandinavian Modern style of the era with a reclining and adjustable scoop high back upholstered seat. Called the Combi Star Rock n’ Rest Chair. By using the side lever, it can be locked in an upright or reclining position, then when unlocked, used as a rocker. This example has been completely refinished, restored, and newly upholstered with a multi-colored (think golds and reds and greens) wavy striped fabric. It even retains its original adjustable and detachable head pillow! Plus, just look at that button detail. It would be the perfect reading and relaxing chair in any room of your home whether your style leans to mid-century modern, Scandinavian, industrial, western, or modern country. Arnt Lande was a Norwegian furniture designer and interior designer who from the 1940s for the next four to five decades made his mark on Norwegian furniture design. Most of those years with Moller & Stokke aka Stokke Fabrikker. He was educated at the Norwegian School of Crafts and Design under architect Arne Korsmo along with fellow students and future renowned designers Ingmar Relling and Sigurd Resell.

If we can pry my husband out of this incredible chair…you should quickly make it yours!

Price: $3,995

Oh, my goodness this is a marvelous iconic Scandinavian Modern dining chair! And to get them as a set of eight, not to mention in rosewood, is unthinkable. Plus, they are in fantastic condition. They were designed by Poul M. Volther circa 1960s and produced by Frem Røjle in Denmark. They are comprised of four round tapered legs with the front two stopping at the seat top and the back two continuing up as the back-support posts. The back is a simple bowed band of rosewood between the two posts. The seat is comprised of a beautiful basket weave paper cord. Four of the chairs have the original cord and four have just been re-done. This set of eight chairs will be incredible around whatever table you choose.

Poul M. Volther (1923-2001), a Danish furniture and lighting designer, was trained as a cabinetmaker but later obtained his architect degree from the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts. Volther belonged to the mid-20th century generation of great Danish architects and designers ushering in the notable era of Scandinavian Modern functional high quality and artistically beautiful furnishings. Not only did Volther create a large body of work, most notably his Corona Chair, but as a teacher he influenced hundreds of future furniture architects and designers desire for quality craftsmanship.

Not many verifiable details can be found about Danish furniture manufacturing company Frem Røjle. But the evidence of the company’s post war success is found in all the highly prized and collectable furniture with their seal. Most notably by Hans Olsen and Poul Volther. These pieces exemplify the Danish mid- century Scandinavian Modern style with their fine materials, sculptural silhouettes, tapered legs, and expert joinery.

Do not hesitate to make this fabulous set of mid-20th century Scandinavian Modern dining chairs your own!

Price: $3,995 What an iconic mid-century modern Swiss designed dining table! It is attributed as the brainchild of Hans Eichenberger in the 1960s, produced by Haussmann & Haussmann, and distributed in the U.S. by Stendig. The base, which was produced by Ernst Ries & Sohn and retains its label, is comprised of chromed thick tubular steel sled legs. And the top is made of composite wood and rosewood veneer. At some point in its life the tabletop has had a veneer repair that leaves a small diagonal line across its surface at one corner. To me this repair is both endearing and intriguing and does not take away from the table’s overall beauty. I can only imagine the circumstances requiring the repair and the stories it could tell. This iconic table will be a demanding presence wherever it is used.

Hans Eichenbrger was born in 1926 and is a furniture and interior designer based in Herrenschwanden, near Bern. The early 1950s, after training as a carpenter, took him to Paris where he was part of a dynamic cultural milieu that impacted his life and career significantly; and when he returned to Switzerland he began his undeniable impact on 20th century Swiss design history. He collaborated with Trix and Robert Haussmann, Kurt Thut, teo jakob, and Alfred Hablutzel under the name of Swiss Design, as well as Atelier 5. These collaborations and his design projects for Swiss National Bank, the Kunstmuseum Bern, and the SBB are linked to the making of modern Switzerland. His work is included in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein, and the Museum fur Gestaltung Zurich. He won many awards and influenced designers in multiple generations and is still going strong.

Stendig was totally the brainchild and passion of Charles W. Stendig. You cannot write or talk about Stendig without explaining Charles. He was a pioneer of import goods in the mid- century. After serving in WWII as a paratrooper, he studied business with emphasis on international trade at NYU and City College of New York. Afterward first working for Raymor, another pioneering distribution company, for about two years, departing to start his own business: Stendig. He opened his first showroom in 1956 in midtown Manhattan. He is credited for sparking America’s interest in furniture from Finland, Switzerland, Italy, and Czechoslovakia. He imported from the likes of Thonet, Asko, and De Sede; and from iconic designers including Le Corbusier, Josef Hoffmann, Eero Aarnio, Tapio Wirkkala, Marcel Breuer, Jonathan De Pas, Donato D’Urbino, Paolo Lomazzi, Carlo Mollino, Carlo Scarpa, and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni to name just a few. By the late 1960’s, Stendig had showrooms in Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco with a large headquarters in NYC. They were exciting and good times but short lived. The business was a challenge and when an offer was made by Burlington Industries to purchase, Charles agreed. He stayed on till 1976 to oversee and then retired. I have searched the internet to no avail to find out if a Stendig division is still in operation. But I can only find the Stendig Calendar, the only calendar in MoMA’s collection, which was designed for Stendig by Mossimo Vignelli, still offered. But I am having a hard time deciding who is creating and offering it. I do know Burlington Industries was bankrupt by 2001, purchased in 2003, merged with Cone Mills in 2004 and subsequently into ITG or International Textile Group. But the Stendig name reins as an icon of high style mid-century offerings.

Oh, my goodness!!! I could not believe my eyes when my husband brought this to me from our stash room. I had totally forgotten about it. This is the iconic Scandinavian Modern Z chair from Selig. And, it is wearing its original phenomenal mod floral fabric. This chair has had quite the controversy over its designer. It has been touted to have been designed by three different Danish designers, , Poul Jensen and Ib Kofod Larsen. But is seems the consensus by most is Poul Jensen. However, there are those who still feel it was Larsen. Regardless it is amazing. We did restore the walnut frame with its typical low slung mid-century Scandinavian design and fantastic Z shaped arms and sides to its original glory. And we had new foam inserted in the original cushions in order to keep their amazing red, orange, purple, and yellow floral fabric. So, it is ready to use wherever your heart desires. Selig Furniture was founded in 1931 in Gardner, Massachusetts by Mendell Selig and Samuel Wexler. By the 1950s, under the guidance of Samuel’s son, Robert, Selig grew to be one of the leading importers and producers of contemporary furniture in America. They focused on high end designs with most coming from Denmark, other Scandinavian countries, and Italy. Responsible for bringing the Scandinavian Modern master designers to the American public they helped to popularize the modern interior design style that was taking the country by storm during the post-war era. By the time they sold to mattress producer Simmons in the 1970s they had five American factories.

This Z lounge chair is an icon of mid-century Scandinavian design and you should make it yours.

Here for your pleasure are three fantastic pieces of mid-century modern art glass. We were going to sell these as a set of three but have decided it will be better to offer them to you per piece. There are two Italian Murano glass bowls attributed to Fratelli and Toso. One is cased in the most gorgeous color of red I believe I have ever seen with its interior in multi-color tutti frutti. Absolutely stunning! The second Fratelli and Toso attribution is the beautiful purple splash or sea urchin shaped dish with a white cased underside. Another showstopper. The third piece is a signed Scandinavian bowl in an awesome chartreuse green done by Kedelv for Flygsfors. This is a phenomenal grouping and would be incredible displayed together so maybe you should purchase all three. If you are so inclined contact us for a group price. Otherwise pick red, purple or green and make one yours!

Danish Modern…Scandinavian Modern…Nordic design…all made a great impact on Canadian furniture designers and makers during the mid-20th century and this pair of awesome side chairs are a result of that movement. This set was produced by Nordic Furniture Company of Markdale Ontario, Canada. Their sleek minimalist lines and wonderful teak are definitely Scandinavian Modern in style. We have added the new geometric black, taupe, and gray fabric on the seats which gives them a touch of drama. They are a perfect pair for additional seating in a living room. Or pair them with a small table in your master bedroom for a private eating or contemplating spot. And they would be awesome in a small alcove at a game table too. I’ve only just begun with suggestions of where and how they could be used. Make them yours and find the perfect spot for you!

Now you can get all your Dux in a row!! Sorry, I couldn’t resist. This is the iconic and beautiful Scissor Lounge Chair. It was designed by Folke Ohlsson for his company Dux, Inc. purportedly in 1949. It is so incredible in its simplicity and when viewed from the side you can see immediately where it got its name. We are very excited about this wonderful chair here at our shop. Its walnut frame has been completely restored and we have replaced all the straps, which were beyond repair, with proper strapping. Plus, we have made new foam cushions and upholstered them in a fabulous black and taupe horizontal stripe fabric.

Folke Ohlsson is a Scandinavian modern Swedish furniture designer who was born in 1919, raised, and educated in . But in 1953 Ohlsson moved to the United States and established Dux, Inc. an American iteration or namesake of the Scandinavian furniture industry’s largest manufacturer of upholstered furniture. This creation of an American company producing Scandinavian furniture may be for what Folke Ohlsson is best remembered. Well that and the invention/introduction of knock- down furniture which is still used today by the likes of Ikea! Ohlsson headquarter the company in San Francisco for three years before moving it to Burlingame, California in 1956. Over the years other great designers i.e. Bruno Mathsson and Edward J Wormley did designs for the company but it was the designs of Folke Ohlsson’s armchair and sofas that were prized for their traditional details and modernist simplicity not to mention formal recognition and awards. Folke Ohlsson passed on October 23, 2002.

Comprised of a gorgeous solid teak slender frame with slightly curved front legs as well as a curved one-piece back and back legs. They have bow-tie shaped back and front stretchers and are upholstered in an awesome lipstick red ultrasuede. Simplicity at its best. Their silhouette is stunning! Price: $1,995 Just look at this phenomenal pair of Scandinavian Modern lounge chairs! These were designed in the 1960s by famed Danish designer Ib Kofod-Larsen for Selig. They are comprised of a solid and sturdy walnut-stained beechwood frame that has angled legs and a sculptural slatted back. The slats themselves are a work of art with their angled backsides. Those slats are held in place with a bowed perpendicular support. Combine all this with their signature paddle-shaped armrests and their silhouette is amazing from all sides. We have upholstered their new high- density foam loose seat and back cushions with a fabulous new old stock (NOS) red, gold, and orange striped fabric which we have applied horizontally accenting their mid-century modern low and long appearance. The strapping has a different installation on each chair we believe depicting an age difference and only one retains its original tag.

Ib Kofod-Larsen (1921-2003) was a native of Denmark and studied at the Danish Royal Academy in Copenhagen. He won, in 1948, the Holmegaard glass competition and an annual award from the Danish Cabinetmakers Guild which garnered him attention from Faarup Mobelfabrik where he went on to create some of his most beautiful works. He also designed for several other companies including High Wycombe, Christensen & Larsen, Carlo Ghrn, Bovenkamp, Fredericia Furniture, and, Petersens. He also found great success with the Selig company, who imported and sold thousands of pieces, mostly seating, to the U.S. market starting in the 1950s. His items are extremely sought after in the vintage market.

This pair will be awesome wherever you use them. Make the set yours!

What an awesome piece of modular furniture! Created in 1974 so it’s on the edge of mid-century modern to modern design and made in Germany with a very Scandinavian Modern flair. It is comprised of four sections; three wide and one narrow and finished in oak veneer. Each section has a panel that separates the individual units and each of the two ends have a panel. The sections can be configured in any order you desire. Plus, it all breaks down for moving or shipping. All the modular units have a combination of storage and display space. One of the units has a drop front bar! And another of the units has a pair of shallow drawers for silverware and cutlery (or whatever) along with a lighted display having three shelves and glass doors. The flat round oak knob pulls are simple and just the right adornment for this gorgeous wall cabinet. Not only will this be fabulous in a living room, dining room, or study; but I can imagine it as part of a beautiful kitchen. You need to make this set yours!

This is an amazingly beautiful king size bed! California king to be exact. It even comes with its own attached swing-arm nightstands! Its style is mid-century Scandinavian Modern or Danish Modern and it was created by Dyrlund of Denmark circa 1960s-1980s. Dyrlund was founded in 1960 and continues today producing fine quality furniture for high end homes and executive offices. This bed is comprised of teak with a platform style frame which is supported by the storage headboard and two large square recessed legs that allow the bed to look as if it is floating in midair cantilevered off the headboard. The headboard itself is 11.75 inches in depth with slanted drop- front doors allowing for bedding or pillow storage within. The top of the headboard is mantle-like and extends like wings out beyond the frame width making it float above the swing-arm nightstands which are mounted to the siderails. All these details making this a very handy and gorgeous bed indeed. As you can see from the photos the back is finished and almost as beautiful as its front. So, floating this bed in the room is possible which will seriously give the illusion of sleeping on air! Useful…beautiful…sophisticated…and very well made. This is the perfect bed for your mid-century modern home or maybe your industrial loft! You need to make it yours!

This is but one magnificent piece of furniture by Barzilay that we are offering. I was swooning over the entire bedroom where we found this gorgeous walnut chest of drawers. Although it is Scandinavian Modern in style it was designed and produced in Gardena, California by Barzilay Furniture Manufacturing Co. founded by Ira S. Barzilay. This tall chest with eight equal sized drawers is simply stunning! It is unadorned apart from the beautiful grain and color of its wood. The only nod to any decoration on this amazing piece is the self-carved long slender finger pulls that act as hardware.

Barzilay Furniture Manufacturing Co. was founded in the late 1940s by Ira S. Barzilay. They were best known for their production of magnificent stereo equipment cabinets for audiophiles and for mid-century modern wall units. Many of their cabinets and furniture were shipped in pieces to the end users who assembled the pieces themselves. They operated out of Gardena, California until 1986.

Ira (Spiro) Barzilay was quite the renaissance man according to his obituary. He was born in New York in 1919 and passed in Palm Desert in 2005 at the age of 86. He was a child prodigy on the piano and, although not a key player, appeared in several episodes of “Our Gang” and “The Little Rascals” as well as a short film with child actress Shirley Temple titled “Dora’s Dunking Doughnuts”. He was a decorated war hero surviving the second day of landing at Normandy and overseeing the rebuilding of the Bridge at Remagen. After the war he founded Barzilay Furniture Manufacturing Co. and for 40 years operated it out of Gardena California until he closed its doors in 1986 so he could retire and pursue his boating and sailing hobby.

The high quality of this chest of drawer’s construction is only outdone by its simple sophisticated beauty. You need to make it yours!

Price: $2,495 Wow! You should have seen the incredible mid-century modern home this piece came from along with many other gorgeous pieces of furniture including several by this same maker, Barzilay. I was in awe! This company built high quality furnishings out of Gardena, California in a combination of sleek mid-century modern styles and Scandinavian or Danish Modern style. Comprised of four equal sized drawers on its bottom half and double doors covering a shelf on its upper half. Made of the most amazingly beautiful walnut I’ve seen. Its wood grain and warm color being the only adornment apart from its self-carved long slender wood handles. Simply stunning!

Holly cow! Look at this guy! We are not sure what to call him we have seen many names describing these Scandinavian figures. We are not sure who made this one exactly, but he is in the style of Hans Bolling. He is comprised of a large plywood turned ball for a body and one smaller for the head, two wood dowels for legs and two big wooden feet and nose. He is covered in faux fur and has a faux fur beard. He has a burlap hat and is carrying a burlap bag over his shoulder somewhat like Santa. He is interestingly large and looks spectacular on a shelf. So whether you call him Gonk, troll, Tomte, gnome, or elf…..you need to call him yours!

Price: $595

These are so funky and cute!! Just look at these Scandinavian mid-century Gonk bookends attributed to Hans Bolling. They are comprised of teak with carved little figures with real fur hair and rope arms. Although we have settled on Gonk to call them, they have so many names. Sometimes called trolls. Often called Tomte. Others call them gnomes. And, many call them optimist and pessimist bookends. You should just call them yours!! Or they would make an awesome special gift. Price: $395

Modern and rocker are not usually two words you think of together but just look at this beauty. It is done in the Scandinavian Modern style, but we do not know if it is Danish. It has lines reminiscent of several Scandinavian Modern rocking chairs, but it also reminds us of the Conant Ball rocker. So, it could be American. You could call it a modern Windsor rocker since it has a crest rail, which is a curved elliptical shape, and eight tapered spindles creating the back support which attach into the seat frame like a dowel. The seat has a cane insert and the arm rail has a small concave curve at the front. Its four tapered legs and four tapered stretchers set atop two interestingly shaped rockers. The black paint finish on the chair has a lovely natural age patina that blends beautifully with the natural colored cane seat. The whole is a stunning mid- century modern rocking chair! So, whether you are expecting and need a rocker for cuddles and snuggles or if you just would like a relaxing seat by the fireplace…you should make this modern rocker your own. Price: $1,195

OMG! We have totally fallen in love with this credenza! It is so “today” and vintage at the same time with its original painted finish on its cabinet box paired with the beautiful teak wood veneer of its doors and drawers. This rectangular box of a cabinet is lifted from the floor by a recessed tall plinth base with both the box and plinth painted the yummiest creamy white, as well as the inside. It is comprised of the case fitted with two double opening doors on the left, as you look at the cabinet, a single door on the right and four equal size drawers in between. The doors are square with the teak grain running vertically and shelves inside. The drawers have vertical grain as well; and, interestingly, the inside bottom of each drawer is orange. There is no adornment at all apart from a single modern skeleton key which moves from keyhole to keyhole to open doors. We have searched high and low for a maker’s mark on the piece plus searched online to no avail. We believe it could be attributed to Bartels of Germany but cannot be sure. We are sure it is incredible. And gorgeous. And useful. And must me yours!! Price: $3,495

Eeeeeee! We totally fell in love with this display / china cabinet! It is so “today’s fashion” and vintage at the same time with its original painted finish on its cabinet box paired with the beautiful teak wood veneer of its doors. This rectangular box of a cabinet is lifted from the floor by a recessed tall plinth base with both the box and plinth painted the yummiest creamy white, as well as the inside and shelves. The upper doors are glass framed with teak. Not in the regular way with the frame going all the way around the glass; but framed just vertically on its sides. So interesting and unusual. The lower two doors are solid and square with the teak grain running vertically. There is no adornment at all apart from a single modern skeleton key which moves from upper keyhole to lower keyhole to open doors. We have searched high and low for a maker’s mark on the piece plus searched online to no avail. We believe it could be attributed to Bartels of Germany but cannot be sure. If you are looking for an icon of mid-century modern – Scandinavian Modern design, look no further. And if you are wanting a beautiful and functional desk for your home or office, look no further. This fabulous desk was designed circa 1950s-1960s by the famed and produced by his company Jens Risom Designs, Inc. It is comprised of walnut, one of my favorite woods, in solid form and veneer. Even its sculptural drawer pulls are walnut. It boasts two stacks of drawers and a center pencil drawer. The right stack is made up of two equal depth drawers on the bottom topped by one more shallow locking drawer and a pull-out work surface. The left stack is made up of one lower file drawer topped by a shallow locking drawer and a pull-out work surface. The privacy panel and drawer stacks are recessed from the front of the desk providing knee space for visitors or a partner to be able to reach the work surface. Its sleek lines are simply stunning. Jens Risom (1916-2016) was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and came by his talent naturally from his father, Sven Risom, a member of the school of Nordic Classicism. Risom trained as a designer under and Kaare Klint along with fellow classmates and Borge Mogensen at the Copenhagen School of Industrial Arts and Design. He went on to business college before working and later relocated to Stockholm where, through his work at Nordiska Kompaniet, he was introduced to Alvar Aalto and Bruno Mathsson. In 1939 Jens emigrated to the United States. His big breakthrough and opportunity came when he met Hans Knoll. Together he and Hans launched an icon, Hans Knoll Furniture Company which is now Knoll International. Jens Risom is considered responsible for introducing Danish modern furniture to the United States. Fifteen of the twenty initial offerings in the inaugural Knoll catalog were designed by Risom. He left Knoll in 1946 and founded Jens Risom Design, Inc. You cannot obtain more true mid-century modern design classics than pieces by Jens Risom.

Price: $7,495 These gorgeous pepper mills look more like sculpture than utilitarian pieces. And how great is that? You can leave them out on display instead of hiding them away in the cabinets! Both are teak and designed by Jens Quistgaard for Dansk Designs. And, both have the Peugeot Lion grinder which I am told is the top of the line where grinding blades are concerned.

EDITED: TALL PEPPER MILL SOLD – ONLY SHORT ONE AVAILABLE

Jens Harald Quistgaard was an outstanding and prolific designer. Born April 23, 1919 and raised in Copenhagen he showed his talent early creating a workshop in his mother’s kitchen. He returned to Denmark around 1992 a renowned and award- winning designer continuing to work until just prior to his death in 2008 Dansk Designs, contrary to popular belief, is an American company not Danish.

We have priced them separately so you may purchase just one. But I don’t know how you would choose. I think you should have both. Make them yours!
