Earlier this year whilst the A+O team was Lot #172 (detail) undertaking research for the Martin Hill Collection of International Ceramics (catalogue 43, June Previous page: 2011) we uncovered a fascinating New Zealand Interior view of Ian Athfield link relating to Dame Lucie Rie. In the 1930s her designed private residence (1969) Viennese apartment was designed by the Austrian showcasing items from Ross architect Ernst Plischke (1903–1992). Fleeing the Morrison’s private collection. onset of WWII Plischke arrived in New Zealand in 1939. His influence in the development of modernist architecture in New Zealand was decisive and like so many of the architects of the period he did not limit himself to the built form. Lots 144 & 145 are examples of his lighting design, in this case for the St Martin’s Church in Christchurch. A great collection is also by definition an exercise in cultural archaeology and in a New Zealand context it is an opportunity to celebrate the dedication and acumen of the collector but also offer thanks for their commitment to maintaining these important objects. ws307 art+object 1-2pg adÄ .indd 1 19/8/11 10:35:59 AM AO478FA Cat 47 Ross Morrison text.indd 2 23/08/11 5:14 PM ws307 art+object 1-2pg adÄ .indd 1 19/8/11 10:35:59 AM AO478FA Cat 47 Ross Morrison text.indd 3 23/08/11 5:14 PM Highlights from A+O’s August 18 ART catalogue 2011 NEW RELEASES Prices realised include buyer’s premium now available Colin McCahon Don Binney Muriwai The Madness of the Pipiwharauroa acrylic on Steinbach paper oil on board, 1963 mounted to board, 1976 760 x 880mm 722 x 1055mm $72 500 $36 600 Liz Maw Colin McCahon Colleen New Paintings oil on board, 2005 synthetic polymer and Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, 2320 x 1300mm pastel on paper, 1971 $33 170 628 x 483mm Pinot Gris, Rosé & Bella $45 750 lower calorie 9% Sauvignon Blanc. see www.invivowines.com for outlets AO478FA Cat 47 Ross Morrison text.indd 4 23/08/11 5:14 PM 2011 NEW RELEASES now available Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Rosé & Bella lower calorie 9% Sauvignon Blanc. see www.invivowines.com for outlets AO478FA Cat 47 Ross Morrison text.indd 5 23/08/11 5:14 PM The Originals Rugby 1905–06 New Zealand Football team Photograph signed by the team and management Thursday 13 October 2011 including Dave Gallaher, Entries invited until 16 September Billy Wallace, Bob Deans etc Contact Hamish Coney E.
