  • Peruvian Andes Adventures Climbing Course & Summits
PERUVIAN ANDES ADVENTURES CLIMBING COURSE & SUMMITS Duration: 12 or 13 Days Grade: Hard, good fitness required Options: For beginner to experienced level climbers For the mountaineering experience of a lifetime! We combine an intensive mountaineering instruction course with climbing two follow up summits in the Peruvian Andes. There is the option to attempt the summit of a 6000m peak which is the ultimate goal of many climbers coming to the Peruvian Andes. You will be instructed & extended to achieve your goals and surpass them by our local experienced & professional UIAGM International Mountain Guide / Instructor(s). ACCLIMATISATION & FITNESS It is important that you are well acclimatised to the altitude before attempting to climb any peaks in the Cordillera Blanca to avoid possible problems with lack of energy or altitude related illnesses when climbing. Climbing above 5000m is physically demanding, even if the climbing is not steep or technical. It is very important to be already well acclimatized before starting this program. We always recommend a trek of minimum 4 to 6 days or a series of day hikes out of Huaraz for acclimatisation and extra fitness. We can organise a trek or day hikes for you if you have not already organised your own independent trek. It is necessary to carry all equipment up to the camps on the mountains. Our crew carry the tents, food & equipment, but you need to carry your own personal belongings, climbing gear, sleeping bag and have a backpack large enough for this. Our crew will carry as much of your climbing gear as they can manage also.

PERUVIAN ANDES ADVENTURES QUILQUEYHUANCA COJUP TREK with CLIMBING ISHINCA & TOCLLARAJU 9 days trekking & climbing (plus one rest day in Huaraz) Grade: Hard. Good fitness is required The Trek: The Quillqueyhuanca to Cojup Trek is an exciting high alpine short trek for strong hikers who want to stay away from the popular & busier Santa Cruz trails and is also an excellent acclimatisation hike for climbing expeditions to climb 6000m peaks. The trek finishes with crossing over a 5100m pass between two deep glacial valleys with amazing 360 degree mountain views Chocu Pass PEAKS Ishinca: 5530m (18143 ft) Grade: PD- / Moderate , Non technical – good acclimatisation climb Tocllaraju: 6034m (19797 ft) Grade: D / Hard / Some steep & technical climbing – not suitable for beginners Tocllaraju has some sections of steep and technical climbing, and we recommend that clients have previous experience climbing on snow and ice with crampons and ice axe, and experience with belay techniques. Tocllaraju is not a suitable climb for clients who do not have good basic climbing skills. There are about 5 large crevasses during the route, which during the 2013 season were safely negotiated via secure snow bridges or by jumping over them. However, the conditions of these snow bridges may alter and the guide may make a decision to try to find an alternative route to negotiate around crevasses. Tocllaraju The final shoulder summit of Tocllaraju involves more technical climbing with some open crevasses to be climbed through with 2 or 3 short pitches of 30° to 45° degrees ice climbing required. After the crevasses the final obstacle is a steep and exposed bergschrund lasting around 65m with grades 60° to 70°.

  • A Survey of Andean Ascents 1961-1970
ML A Survey of Andean Ascents 1961-1970 A Survey of Andean Ascents: 1961~1970 Part I. Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru. EVELIO ECHEVARR~A -,!!.-N the years 1962 and 1963, the American A/pine Journal published “A survey of Andean ascents”. It included climbs dating back to the activity deployed by the Andean In- dians in the early 1400’s to the year 1960 inclusive. This present survey attempts to continue the former by covering all traceable Andean ascents that took place from 1961 to 1970 inclusive. Hopefully the rest of the ascents (in Bolivia, Chile and Argentina) will be published in 1974. The writer feels indebted to several mountaineers who readily pro- vided invaluable help: the editor of this journal, Mr. H. Adams Carter, who suggested and directed this project: Messrs. John Ricker (Canada), Olaf Hartmann (Germany) and Mario Fantin (Italy), who all gave advice on several ranges, particularly in Peru. Besides, the following persons also provided important information that helped to solve a good many problems on the history and geography of Andean peaks: Messrs. D.F.O. Dangar and T.S. Blakeney (Great Britain), Ben Curry (Great Britain-Colombia), Ichiro Yoshizawa (Japan), Hans-Dieter Greul and Christian Jahl (Germany), J. Monroe Thorington, Stanley Shepard and John Peyton (United States) and Christopher Jones (Great Britain- United States). The American Alpine Club, through its secretary, Miss Margot McKee, helped immensely by loaning books and journals. To all these persons I express my gratitude. This survey has been compiled mostly from mountaineering and scientific literature, as well as from correspondence and conversation with mountaineers.

Enjoy the grand Cordillera Blanca mountain scenery, crystal blue lakes, local village and friendly people at your own pace in the company of your private Peruvian Andes Adventures guide & driver. Most of our hikes and tours depart Huaraz early morning (around 07:30am to 08:00am) to allow you to take advantage of the (generally) morning nice clear skies offering the clearest mountain views before the afternoon warm haze descends over the mountain tops. Note 1: Hike grading and walking times are average estimates only for people of average to good fitness. Some people will be faster and others will find it more difficult and be slower. The effects of altitude do make hiking much harder than a similar hike closer to sea level and different people adjust to the altitude in a different timeframe. Note 2: Most hiking options in the Cordillera Blanca should be considered to be physically demanding owing to the altitude and the mountainous nature of the terrain. There are very few flat hiking options and trails on some hikes are steep – both ascending and descending and can be slippery & rocky in places.

  • 5686M.Asl Vallunaraju Is a Mountain in the Cordillera Blanca in the Andes of Peru, About 5686 Meters
Grade: AD- Altitude: 5686m.a.s.l. Vallunaraju is a mountain in the Cordillera Blanca in the Andes of Peru, about 5,686 meters (18,655 ft.) high and located in Huaraz Province, Ancash. Vallunaraju lies south west of Ranrapalca and Ocshapalca. It is a great climb for beginners, or an excellent acclimatization climb for those who have their sights set on bigger peaks in the region. Climbers will enjoy great views from the summit of this moderately easy climb. We suggest you arrive in Huaraz at least 2 days prior to the start of the trip. This will allow for proper acclimation as Huaraz sits at 10,000’ in elevation. It also allows us to meet up with you to review the days ahead and check to ensure you have proper clothing and gear. Gear is rentable upon request. Day 1: Huaraz – Vallunaraju Moraine Camp This morning we’ll pick you up at your hotel and drive out to Llaca valley. As we leave the city the scenery quickly changes to beautiful traditional Andean villages and farmland. We’ll pass through the small towns of Marian and Cachipampa, continue to the entrance of Llaca valley, and eventually reach Base Camp Llaca. We will break for lunch, and then continue hiking to the higher Moraine Camp (about 3 hours hiking). Overnight camping (4800m). Day 2: Moraine Camp – Vallunaraju Summit (5686m) – Vallunaraju Base Camp Wake up at 3:30AM for a quick breakfast. We’ll plan to break camp by 4:00AM. It’s about a 1-hour approach hiking over the rugged moraine until we reach the glacier.

  • 2017 Peru Trip Proposal
Harvard Mountaineering Club – HMC Proposal for summer trip 2017 Andes Editing: Alar, Feb 23rd, 2017 Introduction Here we propose a HMC summer trip to South-American Andes, with focus on Cordillera Blanca in Peru. Why Cordillera Blanca? There is number of reasons, which are listed here: 1. Cordillera Blanca is a premiere range in Andes for mountaineering. 2. Our recent trips have been focused on North-America and Alps and in last years HMC has not arranged expeditions or trips anywhere in Andes. We believe that expanding our geographical reach also to other areas would enrich the overall experience and promote discovering mountains more globally. 3. Cordillera Blanca provides experience with high altitude mountaineering, which is not possible in North-America, and particularly in US outside of Alaska. It is therefore good preparation and practice for high altitude mountaineering also elsewhere, like Alaska and Himalayas. 4. Owning to its location in tropical areas high mountains can be climbed lighter, with equipment and style similar to that of Alps or Cascades, while reaching much higher altitudes. 5. It is one of the most popular areas in Peruvian Andes for mountaineering, which gives somewhat better infrastructure in Huaraz, such as accommodation, mountain guides, other climbers (to get advices etc.), better mountain rescue services than elsewhere in the area. 6. Easily accessible. Transport from Lima to area, but also availability of minibuses, taxes, “burros” to help to trailheads and base camps. Most routes do not need long approaches. 7. Seasonal match. Good climates at the end of May and beginning of June, which would suit for HMC summer trip.
