Enjoy the grand Cordillera Blanca mountain scenery, crystal blue lakes, local village and friendly people at your own pace in the company of your private Peruvian Andes Adventures guide & driver. Most of our hikes and tours depart Huaraz early morning (around 07:30am to 08:00am) to allow you to take advantage of the (generally) morning nice clear skies offering the clearest mountain views before the afternoon warm haze descends over the mountain tops. Note 1: Hike grading and walking times are average estimates only for people of average to good fitness. Some people will be faster and others will find it more difficult and be slower. The effects of altitude do make hiking much harder than a similar hike closer to sea level and different people adjust to the altitude in a different timeframe. Note 2: Most hiking options in the Cordillera Blanca should be considered to be physically demanding owing to the altitude and the mountainous nature of the terrain. There are very few flat hiking options and trails on some hikes are steep – both ascending and descending and can be slippery & rocky in places. We can advise which hikes would be suitable for you having regard to your level of fitness and the distance & length of time that you would feel comfortable hiking in the day. Note 4: GUIDE Your guide for the day will be an ENGLISH SPEAKING tour guide unless you advise that a Spanish speaking guide would be ok for you. Please note that these guides have studied English at a language institute but as English is not their native language and they only have the opportunity to converse in English for around three months of the year, they speak basic school English. Note 5: Day hike prices include guide, private transport (taxi or minivan), packed lunch (with sandwich, fruit, chocolate, dried fruit & nuts, juice) or a snack for short hikes and entrance fees. Vegetarian, gluten free or other special diet lunch available. Huascaran National Park entry ticket is included – 2019 = 30 soles per hike (US$10) per person per day entry Packed Lunch for Day Hikes Note 6: Many of the access roads to day hike destinations are unpaved dirt roads which are not well maintained. Roads surfaces can be bumpy and travel times are slower than you may expect Transport is for 01 or 02 people a taxi or 4 x 4 car, for most trips for 3 or more people for your comfort transport is a minivan https://www.tripadvisor.co.nz/Attraction_Review-g304039-d4374014-Reviews- Peruvian_Andes_Adventures-Huaraz_Ancash_Region.html Testimonial from Ethel & Charlie of Scotland. They stayed in Morales Guesthouse in Huaraz and did 12 day Hikes and Tours Thank you for a great time in Huaraz. from the 1st email request until Paul took us to the airport in Lima we received first class service with everything going to plan. The packed lunches were great and kept us going through the day. All the guides were very knowledgeable & had a good command of English. The day hikes were most enjoyable with amazing scenery & all the guides were patient while we took countless photos. Keep up the good work. We would have no hesitation to book with you again. I will recommend your company to some friends. Dr Stephen Murray from the UK did a series of day hikes ‘ I spent a week with Peruvian Andes Adventures staying at their hostel and walking each day with a guide, sometimes on my own and sometimes as part of a group. I wanted to sample their day treks and see some of the more scenic areas within reach of Huaraz. I had a fantastic week . The scenery and mountains were unforgettable –definitely worth coming back for more . The day trips take you right in among some of the highest mountains in Peru [and in S America] including Huascaran and left me awe struck with the rugged beauty of the area –Scotland will never be quite the same again !Finally a word about Eli Morales and the other staff including the guides. This a family business and runs efficiently and courteously. I cannot speak highly enough of their professionalism, reliability, friendliness and willingness to impart local knowledge. Not to mention Eli’s invaluable help when problems cropped up with my flight back from Alta to Lima .’ Elena from the USA said: We not only enjoyed our hikes but learned a lot about flora & fauna and local customs from our guide Eli Paula & Jason from the UK did 6 day hikes: Anne and Eli, I just wanted to drop you both a quick note to say thank you for our time in Huaraz. The organisation couldn't have been easier with you taking care of everything door to door and the setting of the town and the daily walks were just fantastic. Eli, thank you for being a great and patient guide to us and we will very fondly remember our time in Huaraz and recommend your services should any of our friends or colleagues ever be planning to come to Peru. Thanks again, Paula and Jason CORDILLERA NEGRA HIKE Easy Half Day Hike or Tour by Car A delightful easy hike which offers spectacular views over the entire range of the snow capped Cordillera Blanca. This is a good option for your first day hike in Huaraz. First we travel on a new paved road which winds it way up through the many villages hidden on the valleys and on the hillsides of the dry Cordillera Negra. This area has a climate that is extremely well suited for the cultivation of grain crops and it is the main production area for wheat, barley and oats in the Huaraz district. After an hour we arrive at a pass Punta Callan at 4225m from where there are unequalled views across the wide valley Callejon de Huaylas to the peaks, glaciers and valleys of the Cordillera Blanca. It is also possible to glimpse the coast and ocean from the other side of the pass. We start hiking from here, easily following local village trails all the way down hill, passing by traditional village houses and farms and can enjoy seeing the local traditional way of life. In July and August it is harvest time and everyone is busy harvesting and gathering crops. It is an easy 2 hour walk down to a village where our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to Huaraz. For those not wishing to hike, we can take the car to the saddle where we can appreciate the amazing views of the Cordillera Blanca mountains, of Huaraz and also out to the Pacific coast and then return to Huaraz. We start from Huaraz and walk through the newly developed suburb of Nueva Florida and then follow quiet local lanes passing by small farms and local homes for 40 minutes to an hour to the village of Marian tucked in beneath the mountains behind Huaraz. The hike is a gentle ascent to Marian Village & is not steep. From the village plaza there is an amazing view of the massive snow covered mountain of Ranrapalca. If you feel taking a short climb we can climb up half an hour to the top of a small hill where we have fantastic views of Huaraz and many mountains of the Cordillera Blanca, the highest being Huascaran. On the return from Marian to Huaraz we follow an ancient Inca stone walled pathway and weave through narrow lanes passing by traditional local homes, small farms and trees and we have a glimpse of the traditional way of life. This is an easy hike and a good option for your first day in Huaraz with an easy start to the acclimatisation process.
