A brief comparison study of the two giants of mainstream sci-fi, Star Wars and Star Trek reveals the differing attitudes toward religion expressed in the genre. Star Trek presents an evolving perspective, from critical secular humanism to begrudging personalized faith, while Star Wars presents an ambiguous mythological foundation for mystical experience that is in more ways universal. Hutchins (click to enlarge back cover) (click to enlarge front cover) BRAD'S COMMENTS: In my opinion the Klingon Ship Recognition Manual is far and away the most interesting of the three that FASA produced for the STSSTCS. The designs themselves are excellent, and the writing very imaginative (although apocryphal when compared to current trek canon). Many of the ships in this manual look very 'realistic' in that they adhere to the classic Klingon design philosophy established with the original D7 model ship that appeared in ST:TOS. Something that I don't think either the Federation or the Romulan manuals did very well, especially the Federation manual. So browse and enjoy! Ships are listed below by their ship class, as defined in the book itself. Click on the link to each ship and a window will appear giving a full graphic of the vessel, plus history and game stats. Vessel names that are not linked are vessels that I have not yet scanned in, but will be coming in the future. P.S: I tried to scan each ship at as high a quality as I could, but the original format of the drawings in the manual makes this VERY difficult. The designers at FASA used an old b/w layout trick where the "gray" color that shades the ships is not gray at all, but thousands of tiny black dots on a field of white.

Properties like Star Trek , Star Wars , and the Marvel Comics Universe extend across fi lm, television, video games, novels, comics, toys, and so on. Media consumers are now able to engage with their favorite characters, locations, and other franchise- distinguishing features in a variety of ways, through several different kinds of media. Viewers/readers/players follow the franchise, enjoying the interrelationships that are created across the textual galaxies. Such stories, characters and settings are transmedial in that they cross borders between different media, and traditional boundaries between media forms do not always hold fast or refl ect the audience’s experience of media engagement. 1 In this kind of multimedia network, music can illuminate the relationship between constituent texts of a transmedial franchise and may act as an agent for articulating and constructing those textual connections.

1 Creative Consumption: An Exploration of Food Based Fan Practice Undergraduate Research Thesis Presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for graduation with research distinction in Comparative Studies in the undergraduate colleges of The Ohio State University by Marisa Wieneke The Ohio State University April 2016 Project Advisor: Professor Merrill Kaplan, Departments of English and Germanic Languages and Literatures 2 Introduction Planet Earth has been destroyed and aboard the starship Heart of Gold Arthur Dent wants a cup of tea. "He had found a Nutri-Matic machine which had provided him with a plastic cup filled with a liquid that was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea."(Adams [1979] 2005, 83) Frustrated with the results, Arthur attempts to communicate to the machine a beverage that, with the destruction of the Earth, has become a complete impossibility. "[Arthur Dent] told the Nutri- Matic about India, he told it about China, he told it about Ceylon. He told it about leaves drying in the sun. He told it about silver teapots. He told it about summer afternoons on the lawn. He told it about putting in the milk before the tea so it wouldn't get scalded" (Adams [1980] 2005, 155). Upon receiving all of this information the ship's computer shuts down all other functions in an attempt to synthesize a product out of ingredients that no longer exist. The lack of computer response leads to some close calls for the crew of the ship which ultimately propels the plot forward in Douglas Adams five book trilogy The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
