For assistant teachers, either an equal percent increase or a livable wage would apply, whichever is greater. The current rate for a first year teacher is $30,900. Below is a schedule of MAE's Plan. At the end of the page, please find the starting salaries for other four-year degrees. Those starting salaries range from $40,700 for a degree in marketing to $54,100 for a degree in nursing. By way of contrast, Mississippi's starting salary for a first year teacher with a four-year degree is $30,900. Students Pay High Cost for Low Educator Salaries. Low educator pay comes at a high cost for schools and kids who lose good educators to other states with better pay. Average Increase in Pay from Border States ! Tennessee pays teachers $4,500 a year more. ! Arkansas pays teachers $5,000 a year more. ! Alabama pays teachers $6,300 a year more. ! Louisiana pays teachers $8,500 a year more. 3. Students lose good educators to better paying professions. Mississippi Starting Educator Salary with a bachelor’s degree and zero teaching experience is $30,900 (excluding any local supplement).
