Forthcoming French Atlantic Ocean Missile Test Suspected as Hypersonic Weapon Debut - Report by Morgan Artvukhina So far, only Russia and China have developed working hypersonic weapons, which are nearly impossible to detect and intercept due to their extreme speed and maneuverability. However, several nations have programs to build their own, including the United States and France. After some unusual marine warnings were posted ahead of a French missile test, some experts are speculating it could signal an upcoming launch of France’s hypersonic missile, which was expected to make its debut sometime this year. Dutch researcher Marco Langbroek posted on Twitter on Sunday about several recent navigational warnings across the North Atlantic for the coming weeks that, when plotted out, didn’t resemble what he expected. “Navigational Warnings suggest that France will be test-firing an #ICBM from DGA Essais de Missiles near Biscarosse towards Bermuda between Apr 28-May 21,” he tweeted, noting that “Target area does not fit a simple ballistic trajectory.” “The dogleg shown is purely hypothetical and not very realistic, to be clear. Just to show the deviation from a simple ballistic trajectory,” he added. While three of the four zones outlined in the warning do follow a ballistic trajectory, marking out places where stages of the rocket are likely to fall back to Earth, the fourth and final no-go zone is significantly off-kilter, sitting well south of where it “should” fall if it were a normal ballistic missile. -

Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership. The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the life and ideas of Jay-Z. It is an effort to illuminate the ways in which he managed the vicissitudes of life as they were inscribed in the political, economic cultural, social contexts and message systems of the worlds which he inhabited: the social ideas of class struggle, the fact of black youth disempowerment, educational disenfranchisement, entrepreneurial possibility, and the struggle of families to buffer their children from the horrors of life on the streets. Jay-Z was born into a society in flux in 1969. By the time Jay-Z reached his 20s, he saw the art form he came to love at the age of 9—hip hop— become a vehicle for upward mobility and the acquisition of great wealth through the sale of multiplatinum albums, massive record deal signings, and the omnipresence of hip-hop culture on radio and television. In short, Jay-Z lived at a time where, if he could survive his turbulent environment, he could take advantage of new terrains of possibility. This dissertation seeks to shed light on the life and development of Jay-Z during a time of great challenge and change in America and beyond. Armstrong Murray State University ABSTRACT Gangsta rap music is often identified with violent and misogynist lyric portrayals. This article presents the results of a content analysis of gangsta rap music's violent and misogynist lyrics. The gangsta rap music domain is specified and the work of thirteen artists as presented in 490 songs is examined. A main finding is that 22% of gangsta rap music songs contain violent and misogynist lyrics. A deconstructive interpretation suggests that gangsta rap music is necessarily understood within a context of patriarchal hegemony. INTRODUCTION Theresa Martinez (1997) argues that rap music is a form of oppositional culture that offers a message of resistance, empowerment, and social critique. But this cogent and lyrical exposition intentionally avoids analysis of explicitly misogynist and sexist lyrics. The present study begins where Martinez leaves off: a content analysis of gangsta rap's lyrics and a classification of its violent and misogynist messages. First, the gangsta rap music domain is specified. Next, the prevalence and seriousness of overt episodes of violent and misogynist lyrics are documented. This involves the identification of attributes and the construction of meaning through the use of crime categories. Finally, a deconstructive interpretation is offered in which gangsta rap music's violent and misogynist lyrics are explicated in terms of the symbolic encoding of gender relationships. -

Social adversity portrayed by Tupac and Eminem Written by: HIP HOP PSYCH Co-Founders Dr Akeem Sule & Dr Becky Inkster Published: 5th October 2015 Tupac Shakur and Eminem are often touted as two of the greatest rappers of all time. Whilst Tupac is African American and Eminem is Caucasian, their lyrics have similar narrative story telling styles that are filled with anguished suffering, anger and other emotional tones conveyed in their hip-hop songs. Two songs that describe important issues of adversity reflecting strong emotional turmoil in their lyrics includes the songs, ‘Death around the corner’ from Tupac Shakur’s album, ‘Me Against The World’, and ‘Cleaning out my closet’ by Eminem from his album, ‘The Eminem Show’. In this article, we dissect the lyrics for psychopathological themes and we use the biopsychosocial model to explore the underpinnings of the emotional turmoil experienced by these two characters. In the song, ‘Death around corner’, Tupac’s character is preoccupied with paranoia about a perceived threat to his own life as well as to his family’s life. He feels the need to protect himself and his family from perceived targeted violence. Straight away, the song opens with a skit. It is a dialogue between Tupac’s character, his partner, and their son. Tupac’s character is standing by the window with a firearm (i.e., an ‘AK’, abbreviated for AK-47). Falk Criminal defendants increasingly claim that their criminal behavior was caused by social toxins that excuse or mitigate their guilt. In this Article, Professor Falk demonstrates that these claims are not aberrational doctrinal proposals, but rather are sophisticated extensions of existing criminal doctrine commensurate with scientific advancements. Unlike prevalent short- term causal explanations for criminal behavior, these novel extensions serve to elucidate long-term, diffuse effects of social toxins on the human psyche. In so doing, they provide otherwise unavailable insight into criminal behavior.
