CELCC-CEL (Centro de Estudos de Língua, Comunicação e Cultura (ISMAI) – Centro e Estudos em Letras (UTAD), Department of Communication and Information Sciences) Abstract: This study seeks to understand the consequences of this phenomenon (Diaspora) in the relocation of human resources from other countries to Portugal and to evaluate this impact. With decolonization and later integration into the European Union, some changes occurred in social and cultural identity. Portugal has become a host country. This study examines the narratives of the portuguese settlers of Angola and the fiction narratives about this subject. We created a database with information about individual characteristics of the portuguese settlers of Angola (gender, age, education level, qualification level, occupation, and emotions). We opted for the use of qualitative method for agreeing Stiles (1993, in Gill, 2000), who argues that the purpose of qualitative methods for the condensation of human experience into words isn’t the reduction in its symbolic numbers. In analyzing the content of these interviews we opted for the analysis of narrative research method that has been increasingly used, namely to study specific periods (Farrell, Rosenberg & Rosenberg, 1993, in Zilber et al, 1998), such as migrations. This project aims to re-interpret and re-think the effects of portuguese diaspora, during and after colonialism period by giving voice to those who were categorized as returned people. The early beginning of these practices is crucial to prepare children for a healthy and active lifestyle during their adult and elderly ages. Some authors[1,2] frame some sports and physical activities in the Serious Leisure perspective, which concept includes six distinctive qualities: Benefits, Career, Effort, Ethos, Identity and Perseverance. Despite Serious Leisure qualities were analyzed in different sport activities such as surfing, kayaking, snowboarding and mountain climbing[2,3], and related with different areas, such as tourism[4] and education[5], few studies about their relation with the health area was published until now[6]. OBJECTIVE: The main goal of this work was to understand the relation between the six qualities of the Serious Leisure and the profile and constrains of the practice of sports and physical activities, and perception of health and quality of life. METHODS: For this purpose, a survey by questionnaire was applied to a sample of 217 students, aged between 14 and 18 years (40.1% males and 59.9% females), from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade of the "Graça Aranha Teaching Center", in the municipality of Imperatriz, located in the State of Maranhão, Brazil. -

Keywords: E-government in general and e-justice in particular are no exception and these areas suffered strong changes in E-justice the last decades. There is no democracy without a system of swift and transparent justice. Therefore, the intro- E-government duction of information systems in the courts allows a decrease both in time and number of pending processes, Risk factors boosting the efficiency of the services provided to citizens and to the society in general. Information system Developing countries This paper analyzes and discusses different worldwide e-justice experiences. Special emphasis is addressed Cape Verde on the risk factors on the design, development and implementation of such systems. Finally, we present our own experience in the development of an e-justice information system in Cape Verde, an African devel- opment country. TRANSFORMATION OF “OLD” SLAVERY INTO ATLANTIC SLAVERY: CAPE VERDE ISLANDS, C. 1500–1879 By Lumumba Hamilcar Shabaka A DISSERTATION Submitted to Michigan State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of History- Doctor of Philosophy 2013 ABSTRACT TRANSFORMATION OF “OLD” SLAVERY INTO ATLANTIC SLAVERY: CAPE VERDE ISLANDS, C. 1500–1879 By Lumumba Hamilcar Shabaka This dissertation explores how the Atlantic slave trade integrated the Cape Verde archipelago into the cultural, economic, and political milieu of Upper Guinea Coast between 1500 and 1879. The archipelago is about 300 miles off the coast of Senegal, West Africa. The Portuguese colonized the “uninhabited” archipelago in 1460 and soon began trading with the mainland for slaves and black African slaves became the majority, resulting in the first racialized Atlantic slave society. Despite cultural changes, I argue that cultural practices by the lower classes, both slaves and freed slaves, were quintessentially “Guinean.” Regional fashion and dress developed between the archipelago and mainland with adorning and social use of panu (cotton cloth). In particular, I argue Afro-feminine aesthetics developed in the islands by freed black women that had counterparts in the mainland, rather than mere creolization. Moreover, the study explores the social instability in the islands that led to the exile of liberated slaves, slaves, and the poor, the majority of whom were of African descent as part of the Portuguese efforts to organize the Atlantic slave trade in the Upper th Guinea Coast. With the abolition of slavery in Cape Verde in the 19 century, Portugal used freed slaves and the poor as foot soldiers and a labor force to consolidate “Portuguese Guinea.” Many freed slaves resisted this mandatory service. -
