Tackling gender norms and gender-based violence through women’s sports in rural Kenya, Principal Investigator, 2018 - ongoing • Empirical study of the effects of an adult women’s soccer league on male and female attitudes towards women’s roles in thirteen villages in southeastern rural Kenya • Semi-structured surveys and focus groups in Swahili involving 700+ adult women, adult males in their households, and male leaders in their communities • Research themes: gender-based violence, gender norms, women's health, social support, relationship dynamics

Sexual and reproductive health knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors among adolescents and young adults in Botswana, Principal Investigator, 2019 – ongoing • Design and implementation of s longitudinal study of SRH knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors among male and female adolescents ages 14-24 years in northwesthern Botswana • Evaluate the extent to which adolescent and young adult SRH knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors change over a three-year period during which the local collaborating nonprofit, WoMen Against Rape, will conduct interventional programming in comprehensive sexual education and behavior change. • Assess changes in adolescent SRH clinical service provision and secondary school dropouts due to pregnancy in northwestern Botswana pre- and post-intervention

Adolescent sexual and reproductive health service delivery in northwestern Botswana, 2019 – ongoing • Examine the role played by a community-engaged, multi-sector approach to adolescent health promotion as compared to government-provided services. • Develop an evidence-based set of recommendations for the expansion of adolescent SRHS- provision through scalable, community-engaged, and youth-accessible service delivery. • Supported by a Healthy Communities Seed Grant from the Edward J. Love in the time of COVID-19: Economic shocks and household dynamics in Botswana, 2020 – ongoing • Examine the extent to which households in Maun, Botswana, have experienced economic shocks directly related to COVID-19, including loss of formal or informal employment, loss of income due to furloughs or reductions in wages, loss of access to informal markets, and/or loss of health insurance. • Identify COVID-19-related changes in the level of unpaid household care and the distribution of responsibilities among male and female household members. • Explore the ways in which changes in the relative percentage of economic resources provided by males and females in the household have affected couple dynamics. • Examine the extent to which economic shocks due to COVID-19 experienced by households have altered the nature and extent of intimate partner violence.
