The Bombers defeated the Whal- ers 15.12 (102) to 5.11 (41). A violently gusty southerly wind had the advantage at the Bombers’ backs in the first quarter. Senior coach Matt Fleet spread the word to take advantage early and then keep Eden quiet in the second quarter. Bega’s midfield was in a world of its own as kicks from outside the 50 sailed over the posts. Damien Stackpole, Scott Hay and Aaron Wheatley were attacking very accurately, but from a huge range. Meanwhile, any play that Eden was able to push forward was repelled enthusiastically. Larry Fuller, John Harney and Justin Welsford played exceptionally and held Eden to just two points before the break. The second quarter was largely a defensive effort from the Bombers, who looked to keep Eden low on the board. Wayne Flinn worked hard out of the ruck and halted plenty of possession. Meanwhile, Chris Dwyer showed phenomenal bursts of speed to outrun his opponents and push play up for Bega. Shannon Shepherdson’s high-flying antics in marking also paid off, with the youngster kicking two majors. Eden veteran Pete Russell led his team from the middle and was able to kick two goals for the home side. Efforts from Trent Smith and Nathan Carpenter also set up several scoring opportunities for Bega. Martin Keating chimed in on the scoring frenzy with his two goals. The lead extended to 50 by the third break. Eden stacked on a quick 20 points in the final quarter, but Bega landed 30 points to win by 61. The club sits fifth on the SCAFL ladder, but the win puts the club in finals contention with four rounds left. With only four rounds remaining in the Sapphire Coast AFL season, Narooma sits two games behind the Bombers in the race to the finals. A win against the Bombers will get the Lions back in the hunt while a win for Bega will all but secure their first ever finals appearance. With Narooma showing indifferent form in 2014 they will be looking to show their round 7 form that saw them ease over the Bombers. Player to Watch: Chris Dwyer (Bega Bombers). Showing scintillating for in the past two rounds in two critical wins, Chris Dwyer is a man on a mission to get his side into their first finals appearance within the Sapphire Coast competition. With speed to burn Narooma will have to ensure that they limit the amount of touches that Chris gets on what should be a chilly Friday night.

What they said... 'Adam is hurting, he feels it's racist, many, many people feel this is racist and therefore why would you do it, knowing that' AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan 'This whole Adam Goodes drama is ridiculous. The public can boo or chant whoever's name they want! It's nothing to do with being racist....' Former Australian test bowler, Shane Warne On August 29, 2015, Indigenous AFL player Adam Goodes was again booed during a game between his team, the Sydney Swans, and St Kilda. The game was played at Etihad Stadium. It was reported that St Kilda fans booed Goodes when he touched the ball early in the game then again when he kicked a goal in the second quarter. This was Goodes first game back after taking several weeks off in response to consistent booing from opposition crowds during away games. This booing has been occurring for about eighteen months. Goodes has been a prominent spokesperson for Indigenous rights and there are those who claim that the negative response to Goodes is racially based. Others claim it is a response to aspects of Goodes's game or to his aggressive attitude toward opposition supporters. On September 19, 2015, Goodes announced his retirement from AFL football. On September 24, 2015, it was reported that Goodes had declined a lap of honour to mark his retirement and his contribution to the game.

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS ISSN 1441-5429 DISCUSSION PAPER 21/05 SOME ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF CHANGES TO GATE-SHARING ARRANGEMENTS IN THE AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE Ross Booth 1 SOME ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF CHANGES TO GATE-SHARING ARRANGEMENTS IN THE AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE 1 INTRODUCTION Whilst gate revenue as a source of revenue for the (member-owned win-maximising) clubs in the Australian Football League (AFL) is relatively small and declining as a proportion, it is still an important source of revenue difference between clubs, and potentially their on-field playing performance. Until 2000, gate revenue was shared between the home and away teams (after the deduction of match expenses), after which the policy was changed to allow the home team to keep all of the (net) gate receipts. In the AFL, membership income, reserved seat and corporate box income has never been shared, but the league does share the revenue from key income streams such as national TV broadcast rights (there is no local TV revenue), corporate sponsorship and finals. The AFL (1998) recommended in its Gate Sharing Discussion Paper to change the gate-sharing arrangements, because the intended equalising of gate revenue was not being achieved. Whilst net gate proceeds had traditionally been shared 50-50, membership and reserved seat income had not. This meant that a club playing in a large stadium with a large cash-paying crowd provided a good return for the visiting side. However, a club playing in a small stadium filled mostly with members and reserved seat holders had little room for a cash-paying crowd, and hence provided a poor return to the visiting team.
