Daytona State College Trio Talent Search Program @dsctriots TRiO Talent Search Team: @Daytona State College Daytona State Elijah Houser, Project Director TRiO Educational College TRiO Cindy Bunton, Administrative Assistant Talent Search Latisha Dat, Coordinator Talent Search Roshunda Jenkins, Coordinator Program Terriyon Kendrick, Coordinator WHY ? • Our Mission Statement: To increase the number of students to complete high school and enroll in the college or university of their choice, and complete post-secondary education. • TRiO is a college readiness program for middle & high school students. • Currently serve over 500 students at 6 middle schools and 7 high schools in Volusia County. • We provide students with the necessary information and resources to help them reach their college and career goals! TRiO History Department of Education Grant-Funded programs Viola Davis, Actress Oprah Winfrey John Quiñones, ABC News Correspondent and host of Created in the 1960s as part of the Higher host of What Would You Do?. Education Act in response to administration’s War on Poverty. TRIO was given its name after the first three programs (Upward Bound, Talent Search, and Student Support Services) were implemented. Player basketball coach and NBA player TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first- generation college students, and individuals with disabilities TRiO Talent Search TARGET SCHOOLS – NEW PROPOSAL New grant: Sept 1, 2021 – August 31, 2026 Volusia County Target Schools Flagler County Target Schools • Campbell Middle School • Bunnell Elementary School • Deltona Middle School • Rymfire Elementary School • Heritage Middle School • Wadsworth Elementary • Mainland High School • Buddy Taylor Middle School • Pine Ridge High School • Flagler Palm Coast High School • Taylor Middle High School • University High School Program Objectives • Objective 1 – Secondary School Persistence – % of non-senior participants served each project year will complete the current academic year and continue in school for the next academic year, at the next grade level. • Objective 2 – Secondary School Graduation – % of seniors served during the project will graduate during the project year with a regular secondary school diploma within the standard number of years. • Objective 3 – Rigorous Secondary School Graduation – % of seniors served during the project will complete a rigorous secondary school program of study and will graduate during the project year with a regular secondary school diploma within the standard number of years. • Objective 4 – Postsecondary Education Enrollment – % of participants, who have graduated with a regular secondary school diploma, during the project year, will enroll in an institution of higher education by the fall semester immediately following high school graduation or will have received notification, by the fall semester immediately following high school, from an institution of higher education, of acceptance but deferred enrollment until the next academic semester (e.g. spring semester). • Objective 5 – Postsecondary Attainment –% of participants served during the project year, who enrolled in an institution of higher education, by the fall semester immediately following high school graduation or by the next academic semester (e.g. spring semester) as a result of acceptance but deferred enrollment will complete a program of postsecondary education within six years. At this time, a contact may include any of the following: • TRiO Virtual Meetings • AVID Virtual Presentations(at school) • Virtual Book Club • Virtual STEM Club • Virtual College Tours • Tutoring (tutor.com) • Daily “Tutoring and Chat” • (M-TR – 4pm -5pm) Talent Search - College Tours College Tours – Investigate and Experience • On-campus tours • Experience college life for a day TRiO Talent Search COLLEGE TOURS • Our scheduled college tours are designed to help students identify the feel of the campus atmosphere. Students get to see and experience the college (firsthand)! • How a student feels about schools once they visit in person may affect the direction of their college search and provide them with a goal. Due to COVID-19, all in-person college tours have been postponed. Virtual College Tours opportunities are available. Kennedy Space Center VIRTUAL STEM CAMPS /DAYS • Opportunity to complete hands-on STEM projects • We ship out all necessary materials and supplies… all you have to do is show up… VIRTUALLY! • TRiO holds a Summer STEM Camp for our middle and High School students, and we will now have a STEM Club that meets once per month! Who is eligible? Additional Requirements Requirements 67% must be Low-Income and Potential First Generation At least a 2.5 GPA Attend one of 12 Target Schools within Volusia County Meet (virtually or in-person) with U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, TRiO advisor at least once per month or individual who can provide evidence from the Immigration and Naturalization Service of his or her intent to become a permanent Desire to pursue postsecondary education resident TRiO Talent Search.

    2008-09 Catawba College Men’s & Women’s Swimming COACHES BETSY GRAHAM Head Coach Betsy Graham enters her eighth season as head coach of the Catawba College women’s swim team and third with the men's team. She came to Catawba from the University of Arkansas, where she served as an assistant from 1996 until coming to Catawba. Last season, Catawba's women finished seventh and the men fifth at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Meet and pro- duced six all-conference swimmers. The women set three school marks during the year, while the men had 18 record swims. Under Graham, Catawba has produced an All-American and two All-Academic team members. The teams have swum to a pair of NCAA cuts and 11 NCAA "B" cuts. Catawba's women are 33-13 in duel meets during Graham's tenure with the men posting a 4-7 mark in their initial two seasons. Prior to her stint at Arkansas, Graham served as the head coach of the Aqua-Tex Swim Team (ATEX) in Houston, TX. As head coach of the ATEC squad, Graham enjoyed many highlight including a swimming finalist at the 1996 Olympic trials. She also coached two Olympic Festival medalists as well as junior and senior national champions. Graham also coached a 1994 and 1996 male academic All-American and placed a swimmer on the national junior team. She owns a Level Five certification. Before her stint at Arkansas, Graham had previously been an assistant at Ferris State and Northern Michigan Universities. She concluded her studies at Northern Michigan, earning a bachelor of science degree in recreation in 1989.

Go through two traffic lights to blinker light. Make right on Jim Leeds Road and go approx. three miles (just past Parkway overpass) to “Y” in the road. Bear left on Great Creek to first intersection and make left onto Wrangleboro Road - Absegami is 1/2 mile down on left side. Look for sign. High School is difficult to see from Wrangleboro Road. Audubon High School - Take 295 to exit 28A or B. Exit Route 295 to Route 168 (Black Horse Pike) - exit signs reads, “Mt. Ephraim, Bellmawr, Runnamede” - head West on Route 168 toward Camden. The next major intersection is Kings Highway - approx. three lights turn right onto Kings Highway. Go four blocks past - on your left to Edgewood Avenue (Gulf station on corner) turn left onto Edgewood Avenue. Travel two blocks to school. Fields are behind the school. The gym is at the far end of the school on Edgewood Avenue.
