Every senior will participate in 2-3 mock interviews on that afternoon as part of their senior graduation project. They prepare applications and resume materials through their senior classes prior to the event. Last year was the first time for this event, and it was a HUGE success. The mission of Search –N– Work Day is to provide students with the skills necessary for success once they transition out of high school. These skills should include: dressing for success, resume writing, and completing an interview successfully. The day will allow senior students the opportunity to practice before they leave high school, so they know the areas they are successful in, and the areas in which we can help them improve. Rocky Grove High School is committed to assisting students by preparing them for life after high school, whether it may be additional schooling or entering into the workforce. We want them to be as prepared as possible. Businesses are invited to participate as interviewers. Do you have 3 hours to devote to interviewing students? Can you conduct 3-4 mock interviews? Can you get out of the office to spend the afternoon at RGHS? Can you bring some applications for our students to practice filling out? Can you give advice on what makes a better resume? More than 30 businesses participated last year and the feedback from businesses and students was very positive. For copies of the Search-N-Work Day information pamphlet and a registration form, contact Matt LaVerde at 814-437-3769 or by email at [email protected]. Forms can also be downloaded from the Chamber’s online event calendar. Elizabeth Biddle – K-12 Project Manager, Pennsylvania College of Technol- ogy presented information about School Counts!, a collaborative "community certificate" that links students to employers and to valuable preparation for their future. "Employability" certification provides recognition to students who demonstrate responsibility and hard work in school. The document credentials identify potential candidates for jobs or in- ternships based on predetermined criteria. Employers benefit from this initial screening process orchestrated by the school and earned by the student. People resources, not funding, are required, providing a cost-effective way to connect schools and business. Businesses interested in hearing more about the program can contact Susan Williams at 814-676-8521 or Deb Lutz, at the Oil Region Alliance at 814-677-3152 Thank you for making the 2012 Cranberry Festival a success!
