In the United States this growth has been based on copyright infringement, where fans have subtitled anime series and released them as fansubs. In the absence of official releases fansubs have created the current popularity of anime, which companies can now benefit from. From the beginning the companies have tolerated and even encouraged the fan activity, partly because the fans have followed their own rules, intended to stop the distribution of fansubs after official licensing. The work explores the history and current situation of fansubs, and seeks to explain how these practices adopted by fans have arisen, why both fans and companies accept them and act according to them, and whether the situation is sustainable. No. 3, 363-406 OO33-295X/93/S3.OO The Role of Deliberate Practice in the Acquisition of Expert Performance K. Anders Ericsson, Ralf Th. Krampe, and Clemens Tesch-Romer The theoretical framework presented in this article explains expert performance as the end result of individuals' prolonged efforts to improve performance while negotiating motivational and external constraints. In most domains of expertise, individuals begin in their childhood a regimen of effortful activities (deliberate practice) designed to optimize improvement. Individual differences, even among elite performers, are closely related to assessed amounts of deliberate practice. Many characteristics once believed to reflect innate talent are actually the result of intense practice extended for a minimum of 10 years. Analysis of expert performance provides unique evidence on the potential and limits of extreme environmental adaptation and learning. Our civilization has always recognized exceptional individ- because observed behavior is the result of interactions between uals, whose performance in sports, the arts, and science is environmental factors and genes during the extended period of vastly superior to that of the rest of the population. The Zodiac Man in Medieval Medical Astrology by Charles Clark University of Colorado A naked male figure was a familiar illustration in many medieval and Renaissance manuscripts. Standing with his legs and arms slightly spread, the twelve images or names of the zodiac were superimposed on his body, from his head (Aries) to his feet (Pisces). Used as a quick reference by physicians, barber-surgeons, and even laymen, the figure indicated the part of the body which was "ruled" by a specific sign of the zodiac. Once the correct sign was determined for the particular part of the body, the proper time for surgery, bloodletting, administration of medication, or even the cutting of hair and nails could be found. This depended, above all, upon the position of the moon in the heavens, since it was a medieval commonplace attributed to the astronomer Ptolemy (ca. 150 A.D.) that one touched neither with iron nor with medication the part of the body in whose zodical sign the moon was at that particular moment. -

SANTA MONICA, CA (June 20, 2018) – On the Aniplex Live! show on Facebook, Aniplex of America announced that the hilarious and sexy love comedy, Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs, will be premiering on Crunchyroll, the world’s largest destination for anime and manga in the world, this summer. Based on a popular manga by Tadahiro Miura and published by SHUEISHA, the supernatural series centers around a psychic Kogarashi Fuyuzora who is curiously described as being very “hands on.” Through a series of unfortunate events, he finds himself in need of a cheap room to rent and finds one at a hot springs inn with some ghostly residents called the Yuragi Inn. Voiced by popular voice actor Yuki Ono from GRANBLUE FANTASY The Animation and VALVRAVE the Liberator, Kogarashi encounters a voluptuous ghost named Yuuna, voiced by newcomer Miyuri Shimabukuro in her breakout role. Other cast members include Eri Suzuki (Monster Strike the Animation, Nanana’s Buried Treasure), Rie Takahashi (Fate/Grand Order – First Order-, KonoSuba –God’s blessing on this wonderful world!), Ai Kakuma (ALDNOAH.ZERO, The Asterisk War), Mikako Komatsu, (Eromanga Sensei, Nisekoi), and Anzu Haruno from BLEND-S. The series will be directed by Tsuyoshi Nagasawa (Kyo no Gononi, Nyaruko: Crawling With Love!) with character design by Kyoko Taketani (Pókemon the Movie: Black –Victini and Reshiram, Oreca Battle).
