AHP 18 IMPORTANT NOTICE This edition of Notices to Mariners includes all significant information affecting AHS products which the AHS has become aware of since the last edition. All reasonable efforts have been made to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the information, including third party information, on which these updates are based. The AHS regards third parties from which it receives information as reliable, however the AHS cannot verify all such information and errors may therefore exist. The AHS does not accept liability for errors in third party information. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS The substance of these notices should be inserted on the charts affected. Bearings are referred to the true compass and are reckoned clockwise from North; those relating to lights are given as seen by an observer from seaward. Positions quoted in notices relate to WGS84 which is the horizontal datum for all charts produced by the Australian Hydrographic Service. The range quoted for a light is its nominal range. Depths are with reference to the chart datum of each chart. Heights are above mean high water springs or mean higher high water, as appropriate. The capital letter (P) or (T) after the number of any notice denotes a preliminary or temporary notice respectively, which are contained separately at the end of the permanent notices. A star (*) adjacent to the number of a notice indicates that the notice is based on original information. REPORTING OF DANGERS Mariners are particularly requested to notify the AUSTRALIAN HYDROGRAPHIC SERVICE, Locked Bag 8801 Wollongong, NSW 2500 (Fax 02-4223 6599, e-mail [email protected] or, alternatively by filling in and submitting the Hydrographic Notes forms located on the web site – www.hydro.gov.au), immediately on the discovery of new dangers or suspected dangers to navigation. For changes or defects in aids to navigation notify AusSAR (Fax 02-6230 6868 or email [email protected]). AUTHORISED USE Copies of Australian notices are available free of charge from the Australian Hydrographic Service (AHS) website (www.hydro.gov.au) and through the eNotices (email) service (www.hydro.gov.au/enotices/enotices.htm). Individual Notices may be copied for the purpose of inserting Notice substance on official charts and publications. Paper copies may be printed by chart agents and distributed to customers on a cost recovery basis. Participating chart agents are listed on the AHS website as providing a 'Paper Notices to Mariners’ service (www.hydro.gov.au/webapps/jsp/agents/agents-list.jsp). Copies of the notices may not be sold for profit without prior written agreement. For further information contact the UOW Library: [email protected] From catchment to inner shelf: insights into NSW coastal compartments Abstract This paper addresses the coastal compartments of the eastern coast by analysing characteristics of the seven biggest catchments in NSW (Shoalhaven, Hawkesbury, Hunter, Manning, Macleay, Clarence and Richmond) and coastal landforms such as estuaries, sand barriers, beaches, headlands, nearshore and inner shelf, providing a framework for estimating sediment budgets by delineating compartment boundaries and defining management units. It sheds light on the sediment dispersal yb rivers and longshore drift by reviewing literature, using available information/data, and modelling waves and sediment dispersal. Compartments were delineated based on physical characteristics through interpretation of hydrologic, geomorphic, geophysical, sedimentological, oceanographic factors and remote sensing. Results include identification of 36 primary compartments along the NSW coast, 80 secondary compartments on the South and Central coast, and 5 tertiary compartments for the Shoalhaven sector.

The mysid fauna of the Tasman Sea and its Australian coast, in particular, is barely known. The first special study of the subfamily Heteromysinae (family Mysidae) in the waters of New South Wales, based on the collections in the Australian Museum, yielded seven species of the genus Heteromysis (tribe Heteromysini). The Tasman Sea species of Heteromysis are distributed among three subgenera: Heteromysis s. str., Gnathomysis and Olivemysis. New species of Heteromysis include H. (H.) keablei, sp. nov. and H. (O.) murrayae sp. nov. The Tasman Sea members of the subgenus Heteromysis s. str., together with a number of other congeners, form a group of species with a particular structure of the pereopod 1 endopod and antennulae. Comparative review of the species of Heteromysis resulted in species rearrangement of another Heteromysini member, the genus Heteromysoides (for which a type species is fixed herein), with its species divided betweenHeteromysis , Platyops and Deltamysis (the tribe Mysidetini). Platyops is transferred to Heteromysini. Introduction Wales coast, despite being the most developed coastal area of the country, has remained almost unknown.

Acacia pedina (Fabaceae: Mimosoideae), a new species from the South Coast, New South Wales. Telopea 8(3): 305–309. Acacia pedina Kodela et Tame, a new species of Acacia section Phyllodineae from the South Coast of New South Wales, is described along with its ecology, distribution and conservation status. It is a rare species closely related to Acacia pycnantha, but distinguished by straight to shallowly recurved, oblanceolate to obovate adult phyllodes, large juvenile/intermediate phyllodes and 25–40-flowered heads. Introduction For some time a group of distinctive specimens from the South Coast of New South Wales similar to Acacia pycnantha Benth. were separated in the National Herbarium of NSW based mainly on plant habit, foliage characteristics and number of flowers per capitulum. Specimens of this entity were first collected in 1915 and assigned to A. pycnantha, however several botanists have drawn attention to it as a possible new taxon requiring investigation. Our studies found that although the flowers and fruit are similar to A. pycnantha the South Coast taxon is very characteristic in the field and deserves specific recognition.
