    Pertusaria scutellifera is a New Zealand endemic corticolous on several species of Dracophyllum and Nothofagus. Its asci are one-spored, and its spores can reach more than 180 µm in length. My Ph.D. in zoology focussed specifically on the conservation biology and ecology of frog species in south-eastern Australia. I have 23 years of field and scientific experience studying amphibians and their conservation and management in south- eastern Australia. I have published 24 refereed scientific papers and 38 technical reports on amphibian ecology, conservation and management. I am recognised throughout Australia as an authority on the frog fauna of Victoria, specifically with respect to conservation issues, and I am regularly asked to provide advice on such matters to individuals, government conservation and land management agencies, and non-government organisations. With regard to the Giant Burrowing Frog, I encountered this species on several occasions between 1986 and 1992 while undertaking and supervising pre-logging biodiversity surveys in East Gippsland, Victoria. These records are documented in the Victorian Wildlife Atlas. During this period, I gained knowledge of the species’ habitat associations, breeding biology, some aspects of its behaviour and an appreciation of its conservation status in Victoria (see Opie et al. 1990; Westaway et al.1990; Lobert et al. 1991). Because of my research into amphibian conservation and management, I am highly familiar with the existing literature on the impact of various forest management activities on amphibians and the implications of these activities for amphibian conservation.

Overview Aboriginal people need to be able to access lands and waters to continue their traditions. These traditional practices include fishing, hunting, gathering food, camping, gathering firewood, visiting places with cultural significance, caring for country, caring for burial and other sites, and practising culture. Aboriginal people may always attempt to negotiate access, but the landowner may not always agree. The legal rights of Aboriginal people to access land and water depend on the legal status of the land or waterway. Further information about land dealings may be obtained from the EDO’s series of Fact Sheets and from the NSW Aboriginal Land Council. Access to particular types of land General A Local Aboriginal Land Council (LALC) may negotiate an agreement with any land owner or occupier or person in control of land to permit an Aboriginal group or 1 http://www.edonsw.org.au/legal_advice 2 individual ‘to have access to the land for the purpose of hunting, fishing or gathering on the land’.2 If an agreement cannot be reached, the LALC may request that the Land and Environment Court issue a permit to access the land, or a right of way across the land, for the purpose of hunting, or fishing, or gathering traditional foods for domestic purposes.3 The Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) allows for access agreements to be negotiated.

For further information contact the UOW Library: [email protected] From catchment to inner shelf: insights into NSW coastal compartments Abstract This paper addresses the coastal compartments of the eastern coast by analysing characteristics of the seven biggest catchments in NSW (Shoalhaven, Hawkesbury, Hunter, Manning, Macleay, Clarence and Richmond) and coastal landforms such as estuaries, sand barriers, beaches, headlands, nearshore and inner shelf, providing a framework for estimating sediment budgets by delineating compartment boundaries and defining management units. It sheds light on the sediment dispersal yb rivers and longshore drift by reviewing literature, using available information/data, and modelling waves and sediment dispersal. Compartments were delineated based on physical characteristics through interpretation of hydrologic, geomorphic, geophysical, sedimentological, oceanographic factors and remote sensing. Results include identification of 36 primary compartments along the NSW coast, 80 secondary compartments on the South and Central coast, and 5 tertiary compartments for the Shoalhaven sector.
