    PRESS RELEASE Wednesday, July 6, 2011 Those That Can’t -The Funniest Welsh Sitcom Since Gavin and Stacey The third series of comedy Those That Can’t starts on Radio Wales this Friday (July 8, 2011) and according to one of its stars it’s “the funniest Welsh sitcom since Gavin and Stacey”. The claim is made by Steffan Rhodri who plays one of the main characters in the show and was of course Dave Coaches in Gavin and Stacey. Those That Can’t is written by comedians Chris Corcoran and Greg Davies and focuses on life in a Valleys comprehensive school. Youngsters from Pontypridd High School and Cardinal Newman School, Pontypridd play the parts of the pupils. Steffan Rhodri, who plays senior teacher Glyn Morgan said, “It was with some trepidation that I entered the mad, anarchic world of Those That Can’t but I needn’t have feared. “The cast were welcoming and friendly with a cheeky glint of a knowing smile, just like the Valleys they portray. “It was great fun to record and is the funniest Welsh sitcom since Gavin and Stacey!” As ex-teachers, Chris Corcoran and Greg Davies came up with the idea of Those That Can’t from their own experiences and then let rip with an exaggerated version of those days. The main characters in Tom Jones Comprehensive School are Bryn Williams, the Deputy Head, who has taught there all his life and can’t wait to retire, and his best mate and senior teacher Glyn Morgan, who misses the days discipline could be achieved with the justice stick.

    Transition into Year 12 The purpose of this document is to provide some advice and guidance for families in the event of continued school closures for the coming weeks. We know that you will be anxious about your sons and daughters missing lessons. We realise this is a very unsettling time for you but we look forward to teaching you when things return to normal. In the meantime, Curriculum leaders have collated some interesting transition reading you maybe wish to do prior to joining us in the Sixth Form. Suggested Transition Activities Over the page, each department has provided activities / suggested reading for pupils to undertake in the subjects that they wish to pursue in the Sixth Form. Obviously, every family will be experiencing a different set of individual circumstances which may impact on pupils’ ability to engage in school work. We understand this, but if schools do have to continue to be closed for a period of time, and your son or daughter is well, it may be useful to consider establishing a routine in order to maintain some sense of normality and structure. We would suggest establishing three subject based activities per day of approximately 45 minutes. We would also encourage pupils to use any extra free time they have to read, to take exercise and to take some time to relax. The details included here will provide a starting point.     PRESS RELEASE: EMBARGO 0001 WEDNESDAY 20TH MAY HELP FOR HEROES’ FIELD GUIDE TO SELF-CARE AVAILABLE IN WELSH Armed Forces charity Help for Heroes has made its mental health and wellbeing resource, the Field Guide to Self-Care, available to freely access in Welsh, with guided meditations delivered bilingually by acclaimed Welsh actor Matthew Gravelle. The downloadable resource of tips and tools was originally created by Help for Heroes staff in partnership with wounded veterans, for those who have experienced traumatic events or have been affected by working in high-intensity situations in the Armed Forces. The guide is broken down into three parts; Body, Emotion and Mind and can be worked through in one go or individually. Following the Coronavirus pandemic, Help for Heroes was asked to contribute its expertise to a package of support being created for Nightingale and NHS staff. In addition, the charity chose to make these resources available on its website to support health workers around the UK in preparing for and dealing with traumatic experiences. This content has been accessed by health and key workers across the country as the population comes to terms with the impact of Covid-19 on all our lives. Community Recovery Manager for Help for Heroes in Wales & Hereford, Shelley Elgin said, “As a charity, we have supported more than 25,000 ex-service personnel and families, many of whom have faced similar situations to those our NHS staff are facing around the country right now: challenging environments; working outside of normal areas of work; working with protective equipment and putting themselves at risk.
