Sampling was done using 8 Malaise traps which were installed in three altitude layers. Totally, 126 and 64 specimens were collected from the subfamilies Cryptinae and Ichneumoninae, respectively representing 25 species into 20 genera. Of them four genera and five species are recorded for the first time from Iran as following: Acrolyta Förster, 1869, Ceratophygadeuon Viereck, 1924, Eudelus Förster, 1869 and Mevesia Holmgren, 1890, Ceratophygadeuon varicornis (Thomson, 1884), Chirotica maculipennis (Gravenhorst, 1829), Eudelus gumperdensis (Schmiedeknecht, 1893), Mevesia arguta (Wesmael, 1845) and Virgichneumon albilineatus (Gravenhorst, 1829). Also a checklist of subfamilies Ichneumoninae and Cryptinae in Iran is provided. With new data of current research, the number of identified species of the subfamily Cryptinae of Iran and of the Hyrcanian forests biome increased to 128 and 39 species and for Ichneumoninae increased to 191 and 115, respectively. Cryptinae is the largest subfamily of Ichneumonidae comprising more than 395 identified genera and more than 4500 species (Quick, 2015). Cryptines show a variety of biological strategies in their parasitic life. Most species of Cryptinae are idiobiont ectoparasitoids on pupae or prepupae of holometabolous insects including Diptera, Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, Neuroptera, Trichoptera and Hymenoptera but some genera are koinobiont or endoparasitoid and a few prey egg sacs of spiders (Townes, 1970). The subfamily Ichneumoninae is the second largest subfamily of Ichneumonidae with 394 valid genera and almost 4300 known species. Ichneumoninae members are special endoparasitoids of larvae, prepupae or pupae of Lepidoptera but always emerge from their pupa (Heinrich, G.H. 1961). Study of the fauna of the subfamilies Cryptinae and Ichneumoninae have been received more attention in recent decade. Up to now, there have been reported 125 and 174 species of the subfamilies Cryptinae and Ichneumoninae from Iran, respectively (Barahoei et al . 2012; 2015; Ghahari and Jussila, 2016a,b; Mahyabadi et al ., 2016; Mohebban et al ., 2016; Moha mmadi- Shirzadegan et al ., 2017; 2018; Khoramabadi et al ., 2018; Kolarov and Ghahari, 2008; Ghahari and Jussila, 2010; Firuzi Jahantighi et al ., 2011; Ghahari and Jussila, 2011; Barahoei et al. , 2012; Hooshyar et al ., 2012; Ghahari and Jussila, 2014; Barah oei et al. , 2015; Ghahari and Gadallah, 2015; Mohebban et al ., 2016; Ghahari and Jussila, 2016a; 2016b; Ghahari, 2016; Shirzadegan et al ., 2017; 2018; Mohammadi-Khoramabadi et al ., 2018; Mohebban et al. , 2018). The Hyrcanian forests extended along the southern shores of the Caspian Sea from the Talish region in Ardebil province to Guilan, Mazandaran and Golestan provinces, Iran (Fig. 1) (Akhani et al., 2010). This ecosystem in this region are amongst the most important and incomparable temperate deciduous broadleaved forests in the world (Haghdoost et al ., 2011). This forest zone is limited to the Caspian Sea shores northwards and to the Alborz Mountain southwards. An ongoing project on the species diversity of the parasitoid wasps of the family Ichneumonidae has been started from 2011 in the Hyrcanian forests. In this study we present new data on the two subfamilies Ichneumoninae and Cryptinae in Mazandaran province, northern Iran. Material and Methods Study area: The study was carried out in Amol county (N 52º 21 ʹ 23 ʺ E 36º 29 ʹ 36 ʺ to N 52º 21 ʹ 16 ʺ E 36º 26 ʹ 13 ʺ) Mazandaran province, north of Iran (Fig. 1) from May to November 2016. Sampling was done using eight Malaise traps. These traps were set in four localities including Noabad, Kelerd, Shahandasht and Niak. Geographical characteristics of the studied localities and their vegetation type are shown in Table 1. The captured specimens in each trap were extracted and separated by an interval of two weeks. They were then dried, pinned or card mounted. Identification was done by Dr. R. Jussila, University of Turku, Finland. 34 Journal of Entomological Research Volume 11, Issue 3, 2019, (33-60) Fig. 1- Position of Amol county in Mazandaran province, Northern Iran, sampling localities are shown by star. • ELIZABETH LOCKARD SKILLEN Diversity of Parasitic Hymenoptera
ELIZABETH LOCKARD SKILLEN Diversity of Parasitic Hymenoptera (Ichneumonidae: Campopleginae and Ichneumoninae) in Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Eastern North American Forests (Under the direction of JOHN PICKERING) I examined species richness and composition of Campopleginae and Ichneumoninae (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) parasitoids in cut and uncut forests and before and after fire in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee (GSMNP). I also compared alpha and beta diversity along a latitudinal gradient in Eastern North America with sites in Ontario, Maryland, Georgia, and Florida. Between 1997- 2000, I ran insect Malaise traps at 6 sites in two habitats in GSMNP. Sites include 2 old-growth mesic coves (Porters Creek and Ramsay Cascades), 2 second-growth mesic coves (Meigs Post Prong and Fish Camp Prong) and 2 xeric ridges (Lynn Hollow East and West) in GSMNP. I identified 307 species (9,716 individuals): 165 campoplegine species (3,273 individuals) and a minimum of 142 ichneumonine species (6,443 individuals) from 6 sites in GSMNP. The results show the importance of habitat differences when examining ichneumonid species richness at landscape scales. I report higher richness for both subfamilies combined in the xeric ridge sites (Lynn Hollow West (114) and Lynn Hollow East (112)) than previously reported peaks at mid-latitudes, in Maryland (103), and lower than Maryland for the two cove sites (Porters Creek, 90 and Ramsay Cascades, 88). These subfamilies appear to have largely recovered 70+ years after clear-cutting, yet Campopleginae may be more susceptible to logging disturbance. Campopleginae had higher species richness in old-growth coves and a 66% overlap in species composition between previously cut and uncut coves.

Mus. natn. hung. 86: 79-83. Abstract - Material collected in Spain and preserved in the Hungarian Natural History Museum belonging to the subfamily Ichneumoninae is studied. The 28 species belong into 6 tribes: Ichneumonini, Listrodomini, Phaeoge- nini, Protichneumonini, Trogini and Zimmerini. Three of them arc highly important: Neotypus intermedins inter medins MOCSÁRY, 1883 is a species from Spain whose type is studied, Cotiheresiarches dims (WESMAEL, 1853) and Cratichneumon fugitivus (GRAVENHORST, 1829) are first records for the Iberian fauna. INTRODUCTION The Hungarian Natural History Museum houses a good series of Ichneumonidae species. We also had the opportunity to examine a considerable number of Mediterranean specimens. Howewer, all these species are badly in need of an exhaustive reclassification. Our main objective was to present new data regarding the Spanish species of Ichneumoninae, that accumulated in the Hymenoptera Collection in Budapest. Although the largest part of the Collection is based on materials obtained by SZÉPLIGETI and MocsÁRY, in this study we were highly interested in that part of KRIECHBAUMER'S Collection (mainly collected by KORB and placed in Munich: SELFA 1992) which was deposited here. Similarly, a long series of specimens recently collected by J. & A. PODLUSSÁNY was also taken into consideration. Twenty-eight species from the tribes Ichneumonini, Listrodomini, Phaeogenini, Protichneu monini, Trogini and Zimmerini are discussed.

  • Identification Key to the Subfamilies of Ichneumonidae (Hymenoptera)
Identification key to the subfamilies of Ichneumonidae (Hymenoptera) Gavin Broad Dept. of Entomology, The Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London SW7 5BD, UK Notes on the key, February 2011 This key to ichneumonid subfamilies should be regarded as a test version and feedback will be much appreciated (emails to [email protected]). Many of the illustrations are provisional and more characters need to be illustrated, which is a work in progress. Many of the scanning electron micrographs were taken by Sondra Ward for Ian Gauld’s series of volumes on the Ichneumonidae of Costa Rica. Many of the line drawings are by Mike Fitton. I am grateful to Pelle Magnusson for the photographs of Brachycyrtus ornatus and for his suggestion as to where to include this subfamily in the key. Other illustrations are my own work. Morphological terminology mostly follows Fitton et al. (1988). A comprehensively illustrated list of morphological terms employed here is in development. In lateral views, the anterior (head) end of the wasp is to the left and in dorsal or ventral images, the anterior (head) end is uppermost. There are a few exceptions (indicated in figure legends) and these will rectified soon. Identifying ichneumonids Identifying ichneumonids can be a daunting process, with about 2,400 species in Britain and Ireland. These are currently classified into 32 subfamilies (there are a few more extralimitally). Rather few of these subfamilies are reconisable on the basis of simple morphological character states, rather, they tend to be reconisable on combinations of characters that occur convergently and in different permutations across various groups of ichneumonids.

Kasparyan started his extensive study of Mexican Icheumonidae in 1998 as a profes- sor of the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas in Cd. Victoria, Mexico. From 2000 to 2013, he has published two monographs and 38 journal articles on Mexican Ichneumonidae, where he described 7 new genera and 168 species and subspecies belonging to 10 subfamilies of Ichneumonidae, and provided a large number of new faunistic and host records. All new genera and 83 % of described species and sub- species belong to the Cryptinae, one of the most difficult, in terms of identification, and poorly known ichneumonid subfamilies. At the present day, as a result of work by D.R. Kasparyan and collaborators, over 1300 species and 343 genera belonging to 28 ichneumonid subfamilies are known from Mexico. Here we provide a complete list of new taxa described by D.R. Kasparyan from Mexico, all his mono- graphs and journal articles on Mexican Icheumonidae, and the most important publications in memoirs and collections of papers.
