He left thousands of friends, and probably hundreds of his-taught Contra-callers who will perpetuate his memory for some time to come." (Beverly B. Tyers Hall is th unavailable due SUN 4 NOV 2018 7.30pm to the art show VRI Hall, 18-20 Queens Parade, Traralgon There is a colourful & exotic end of year treat planned for the final show of the Café Culture Series 2018. Parvyn Singh, lead singer of Melbourne’s original Bollywood outfit ‘The Bombay Royale’ has developed the show in conjunction with the four other members of the troupe. A singer dances within, a dancer sings within. Parvyn is both and exudes a seemingly effortless grace and purity in her movement and voice. She has been performing on stages around the world from childhood with her father Dya Singh. Parvyn is joined by two other fabulous professional dancers and teachers, Ida Ghate and Shamita Sivabalan. In the early part of the program they showcase the rhythmic footwork of the classical dance style ‘kathak’ and how it interacts with the tabla (two variable pitched drums played with the hands). The tabla will be expertly played by Jay Dabgar who was born and raised in India in a family of tabla- makers and commenced his systematic training at the tender age of four. More musical accompaniment arrives in the form of the dilruba, an Indian bowed instrument played by the multi- talented Josh Bennett. (Dil means heart; Ruba means to enchant). He will also play guitar and sitar.
