PINNACLE CLUB OF ASEAN: NEWSLETTER 06/16 Pinnacle Club Secretariat visits Jakarta Secretariat staff visited with Founding Patron Pak Try Sutrisno and other esteemed members from the Tentara Nasional Indonesia. We took the opportunity to provide updates on the Club and to receive feedback and guidance. Call on former Vice President General (Ret’d) Try Sutrisno with Air Marshal (Ret’d) Teddy Rusdy Pak Try generously shared his extensive experiences and how it has shaped his philosophy of life. He emphasized the value of friendships and said the Club plays such an important role in helping to promote and maintain the endearing ties among ASEAN military senior commanders. Reproduced is Pak Try’s note ad verbatim: PINNACLE CLUB OF ASEAN, c/o STRATAGEM GROUP 391B Orchard Road #22-06/07 Ngee Ann City Tower B Singapore 238874 Tel: +65 62622114 [email protected] “Entering the era of 1970’s, 25 years after the Proclamation of Independence Republik Indonesia 17 August 1945; the natural need to have the process of re-generation was felt and imminent for the Indonesian leaders, especially for the Indonesian Armed Forces (ABRI). The ABRI leaders were then came from the period of 1945 the war for Independence. Those were 18 years old then were 58 years old. I was then a junior officer attending the Command and Staff College (SESKOAD) in 1972 in Bandung. The ABRI leaders then decided to instruct the SESKOAD to carry out Seminars on the subject of “The transformation of the 1945’s value system”. “The 1945’s values system” which consist of the values pf People’s Army, Patriotism and professionalism and loyal to Pancasila (Five Principles). The values system to be transformed from the 1945’s to the next generation to ensure continuity. To up hold the National Independence and to achieve the National’s goal. I was then with the younger and non 1945’s generation, consider as the military Academy Generation (Alumni of Military Academy = AKABRI) the class of 1960 and 1961. The Seminar was the first conference between the Generation 1945 and the younger generation of the non 1945. Together we formulated “the transformation of 1945 values which consist of the Indonesian National Identity which have to up hold an applied in all walk of life”. The re-generation’s process was transformed from the Generation 1945 the Generation of National War for Independence. Through Jenderal LB. Moerdani the “bridge” generation to my generation of Military Academy, successfully. Being the commander of ABRI in the 1988 – 1922, I was very proud with the support of all national components, managed to achieve the national dynamic stability, to enable for the Republik of Indonesia. Poverty, overcame by National economy Developments to achieve growth, evenly distributed and job creation. c. Health, overcame by developing the health infra structure throughout the country to up lift the human values birth control. d. Shortage of rice, overcame by improving the quality and quantity of paddy fields and achieve the National food sufficiency. To the members of Pinnacle Club, I would like to urge for keeping and make stronger friendship, trust and confident among us to face the better, brighter and brilliant future. To the younger generation among and within the ASEAN military Establishments: a. Let us improve the ASEAN solidarity and cooperation for our Country and ASEAN Regional Countries. b. Let us keep and improve the traditions enhancing the unity and friendship to face our better future for the secure peaceful and welfare ASEAN Region. c. Let us develop our ASEAN Regional Resiliences through our individual National Resiliences. You can't keep a good man down - so true of Pak Chappy! We spent a very pleasant evening with Pak and Ibu Chappy Hakim and friends. Pak Chappy appears regularly at the Qi Lounge in Sultan Hotel, Jakarta. Many thanks to Pak Chappy once again for inviting us to watch his performance together with his talented band. We truly appreciate the good music played by them! Pak Agum have had an illustrious military and ministerial career. He was Commander of the Kopassus and Minister of Communications in the Gus Dur and Megawati Presidencies. He was also Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs for President Gus Dur. Pak Agum kindly agreed to assist the Pinnacle Club to expand the membership base of retired Indonesian Service Chiefs. Call on His Excellency, General TNI (Ret’d) DR. Wiranto, SH We congratulated Pak Wiranto on his recent appointment as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Republik of Indonesia. Pak Wiranto said this is his second time to occupy the office after 16 years. He noted that the office and the furniture have not changed. Maj-(Ret’d) Goh Yong Siang with General TNI (Ret’d) DR.
