It was converted to an automobile plant in 1980 by Volkswagen and purchased by Chrysler Corporation in 1983. Production of Chrysler LeBaron GTS and Dodge Lancer began in September 1984. Dodge Shadow and Plymouth Sundance production began in 1985, and Dodge Daytona production began in 1991. Through the end of the 1991 model year, the facility had produced nearly 1.3 million vehicles. Production of the 2001 Dodge Stratus and Chrysler Sebring sedans began in the fall of 2000, followed by the Chrysler Sebring Convertible. The all-new 2007 Chrysler Sebring Sedan launched in August 2006, followed by the all-new 2008 Dodge Avenger and 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible. This continued despite the 1998 Chrysler merger with Daimler Benz and constant claims by DaimlerChrysler that this was a significant benefit to consumers. If anything, given the dramatic quality decline, it seems Mercedes Benz may have embraced some of the cost cutting quality standards at Chrysler to increase overall profitability. The problems continue despite stylish new vehicles and claims of new stringent quality standards by Chrysler to regain consumer confidence. Chrysler continues to deceive consumers regarding known potentially life threatening vehicle defects such as unsafe Seatbelts and Steering which continue to put consumer lives at risk every day. Chrysler still refuses to recall several common serious safety defects that cannot be absolved through mergers and buyouts. Chrysler continues to reduce its warranty expense through an aggressive refusal to honor many valid warranty claims while blaming the consumer whenever possible, such as defective engines where on schedule oil changes can be proven. Consumers often attribute this to being a dealer problem while failing to recognize that this is because Chrysler pressures dealers to keep warranty costs to a minimum, even for known problems and defects. Chrysler will do everything it can to avoid covering common problems under warranty whenever possible by blaming consumers or claiming issues cannot be duplicated. We believe Chrysler is the most negligent, deceptive, misleading and arrogant automobile manufacturer that does not deserve your business.

    PRELIMINARY YPFS DISCUSSION DRAFT| MARCH 2020 Emergency Assistance for Chrysler Financial Alexander Nye1 October 24, 2019 Abstract In 2008, due to the confluence of the financial crisis and years of structural decline, Chrysler was nearing bankruptcy. Chrysler’s related finance company, Chrysler Financial, was in dire straits. On January 2, the U.S. Treasury extended Chrysler a $4 billion bridge loan to give the company time to prepare a viable restructuring plan (See Nye 2019 Bridge Loans). Two weeks later, the Treasury arranged $1.5 billion in low-interest financing for Chrysler Financial to fund the securitization of new consumer car loans. Chrysler Financial drew down the entire $1.5 billion between January 16 and April 9, 2009. Although the loans bore a 5-year term, Chrysler Financial paid off the loans in July after accessing another government program, the Term Asset-Backed Securities Loan Facility. The $1.5 billion facility subjected Chrysler Financial to several management restrictions, most of which related to executive compensation. When Chrysler entered bankruptcy on April 30, GMAC (General Motors’ related auto finance company) took over most of Chrysler Financial’s business. Chrysler Financial continued to do business at a much smaller scale. Treasury expected Chrysler Financial to wind-down its business. In December 2010, TD Bank bought Chrysler Financial from Cerberus for $6.3 billion. Our hosts are Sherri and Bill Peddicord. This will be a joint meet between the Winged Warriors group and DSAC. Members of the Dodge Charger Registry are also invited as it is the 50th anniversary of the Charger. The Festival Car show is Sept 23-25. The big show day is Saturday and the big cruise on Friday night. Sunday is a wind down day. So if you need to head home, no problem. Attendance each year exceeds 1000 cars .
