Global Thinkers Fo- Grum (GTF) is strongly focused towards creating better societies by promot- ing and supporting collaboration and understanding. The Forum’s mandate goes beyond the limits and boundaries of politics and is introducing an arena of open mindedness, freedom, values and ethical leadership. The Dubai Business Women’s Council (DBWC) is proud to collaborate with GTF at the Global Thinkers Forum 2014 as a support partner. GTF is a platform for thinking and conversation that brings current and future leaders closer, in order to discuss pressing issues regarding governance practices, our societies, entrepre- neurship, and our world’s progress and future. At a time when economies need high-growth entrepreneurs more than ever, the Dubai Business Women’s Council is keen to pursue opportunities that will inspire women to seek advisors, train- ing, and networks that will help them unleash their potential and fundamentally change lives. GTF serves as a beacon to raise the consciousness of society about the impor- tance of ethical leadership and to develop the necessary programmes of educa- tion, learning and community action. We are pleased to join this initiative that contributes to creating a successful and sustainable future and legacy for future generations. At the Dubai Business Women Council we assist businesswomen in overcoming difficulties and problems they encounter in their commercial, indus- trial and service roles. We also encourage the participation of women in different economic sectors besides enhancing their role in business activities and also pro- viding relevant education and training. A cameraman, whose footage from Eritrea provoked a worldwide aid response and helped thousands of kids, says: ‘I pray to God to forgive me for what I have done.’ A reporter, working in Iraq for the Red Cross, is kidnapped and decapitated by the terrorists, who film the execution to broadcast it on the Internet. A war correspondent who lost her eye in an explosion in Sri Lanka, but never stopped covering conflicts, shows a dying baby, regardless of criticism that ‘it is too much to show on the evening news.’ She says that her heart broke but people must ‘see this to stop this’. Two days after that last material she dies in a rocket attack, in Syria. Journalists very often risk their lives to take pictures, descend to hell to bring testimonies and tell the stories of real-life horror, fear and terror. Accused of cynicism, the reporters are determined to show the world the things which most of people are afraid to see. Their apocalyptic images sometimes contribute to the end of bloodshed; their stories raise awareness and move our hearts. Have we ever wondered what is the price they pay for telling us about unimaginable horror they face every day? How do they deal with fear, reporting on terror and acts of human evil? I want to tell the story about professional storytellers: about their lives, devoted to bearing witness to the horrors of this world; about their more-or-less heroic deaths; about their struggle to deal with fear and qualms.
