Wellington-Halton Hills Press Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 8th, 2020 Michael Chong appointed Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs Chong assumes opposition critic role under newly elected Conservative leader Erin O’Toole FERGUS – Michael Chong, Member of Parliament for Wellington-Halton Hills, was named the Official Opposition’s Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs. The announcement was made today by newly elected Conservative leader and Leader of the Official Opposition, Erin O’Toole. “I’m excited to take on this new role, and I’m proud to be working alongside an experienced team that will continue to hold the government to account on behalf of all Canadians,” said Chong. “Foreign affairs matters. I know this because during the Second World War my Chinese father was defended by Canadian soldiers in Hong Kong and Dutch mother was liberated by them. We should never forget the sacrifices Canadians have made in defence of our values.” Chong takes on this role after serving as Shadow Minister in various roles including Infrastructure, Science, and, most recently, Democratic Institutions. Chong was first elected to the House of Commons in 2004 as the Member of Parliament for Wellington-Halton Hills. He has served as Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister for Sport, as well as President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada.
