Sport Regulations (Technical Regulations)

General Terms

The 3x3 Basketball tournaments shall be organised in accordance with the most recent technical regulations and rules of the Federation Internationale de Basketball Amateur (FIBA). In any dispute, the English text shall be regarded as authoritative. Only players that are registered with a confirmed profile on https://play.fiba.3x3.com/ may participate in the event. The programme and duration of competitions shall be fixed by the Executive Committee in agreement with the Organising Committee and the CTI. The competitions shall last four (4) days and include the following events: • one (1) men’s tournament: a maximum of sixteen (16) teams; • one (1) women’s tournament: a maximum of sixteen (16) teams.

Teams will be split in pools of 4 teams and play a round-robin phase followed by an elimination round starting with Last 16. Only gold medal and bronze medal games shall be played. All other teams will be ranked according to the Official FIBA 3x3 Rules of the Game. Individual contests shall be organised as part of the League: a dunk contest for male players and a shoot-out contest for female players. The tournaments shall be organised outdoor. An indoor venue shall be available as a backup venue in case of weather problems. Each university may enter a maximum of five (5) persons per team: four (4) competitors and one (1) official. Only the cost of the 4 players will be covered by the OC. At the first General Technical Meeting, the Head of Delegation or his/her representative shall confirm and sign the official list of competitors accredited by the CIC.

Pre-competition Procedure

Teams will qualify through Qualification Tournaments and by direct invitation from FISU. Team and pool seeding will not be done through a draw, but will be done automatically according to the Official FIBA 3x3 Rules of the Games. Teams will be seeded according to a snake-format according to the aggregated ranking points of their 3 best-ranked players. In case of a team having zero ranking points, the FIBA 3x3 EventMaker software will seed the teams randomly.

Technical Officials

Nomination and costs 8 Referees shall be appointed jointly by FIBA and the FISU Technical Committee Chair. The OC shall bear their costs of travel, full board and lodging (from two (2) days before the opening ceremony to one (1) day after the closing ceremony). Only Referees with a FIBA 3x3 License or referees that are in the course of obtaining such License shall get nominated.

Qualification to the FIBA 3x3 World Tour

The winners of the men´s category will qualify to a Masters of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour in the following year. The FIBA 3x3 World Tour Regulations will fully apply. Teams shall be aware that they will have to keep 2 of the 4 players playing at the League Final on the extended roster for the World Tour season of the following year. FISU will cover the travel costs for 4 players only to the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Masters , while the staying costs for the 4 players at the Masters will be picked up by FIBA.

Equipment

The use of FIBA approved equipment is highly recommended for consistent high quality performance throughout the duration of the tournament. The following equipment is needed: • Official game balls; • Scoreboards (electronic or manual); • Backstop units on each court (only for temporary venues); • Outdoor shot-clocks

Venues

The Organising Committee must provide suitable facilities to stage the 3x3 Basketball competitions as approved by the 3x3 Basketball TCC. The FIBA technical regulations shall be followed.
