Minor premiers in 3rds T20, minor premiers in 1sts Limited Overs, and undefeated minor premiers in the Combined T20. Runner's-up in both the T20 and limited overs in 3rd grade, and at long-last, PREMIERS in both the Combined T20 and 1st Grade Limited Overs. The icing on the cake was the long-awaited Club Championship, the 8th in our 35-year history. The last one signaled 4 on the trot, and was exactly 20 years ago. I accepted that last championship shield as a young and very inexperienced club President. I stand before you not just with grey hair, wrinkles, and more broken fingers, but a far greater appreciation of how much work goes into winning one. This championship is very much on the back of outstanding seasons from 1sts and 3rds who dropped just one and four matches respectively for the season. First grade did everything well this season. Even their loss was convincing, rolled for 74 by Bankstown! On a more serious note for 1st grade to win dual premierships is a dream come true. It's been a very long time between drinks. As for 3rds, they are perpetual bridesmaids and will Slay those Slayers eventually! 2nds and Brewers, while they didn't participate in finals, provided fabulous support to both teams jumping in where and when they were needed and are well placed to join the finals party next season. Our young St Gordon Sixers also had a great year and I particularly enjoyed watching their improvement across the season. We had a distinctly international flavour this season. Ireland players Laura Delaney and Shauna Kavanagh joined us for a break from the Irish weather (or did they bring it with them?!). They were a tremendous addition and quickly became passionate Reds. We hope to have an Irish flavour again in 17/18, whether it be these ladies or other members of their squad. We also welcomed Fi Urquhart. Based in Sydney for the past few years, this was her first season in the Red cap. In February Fi ducked off to Sri Lanka to represent Scotland in the ICC World Cup qualifiers and was joined by our Irish lasses. This meant they were offshore for our T20 win however could follow almost every ball and very much shared in the celebrations. We really appreciated having Fi on board. Her passion and experience had a big influence on 1st grade. Fi announced her retirement from international cricket a few months ago after representing Scotland for an incredible 16 years earning 94 caps and is the 4th highest run scorer for Scotland women. Congratulations Fi. Gordon's success this season wasn’t a fluke. It's the culmination of a 13 year rebuild. At the end of the 03/04 season, long before T20's emerged, we collected multiple team premierships including 3 in a row by a 1sts team that included the likes of Kate and Alex Blackwell, Sthalekar, Anneveld, Calver and Davis. After that season three-quarters of our 1st grade side moved on either through retirement, to be founding members of a new club in the competition where they were offered opportunities we couldn't compete with, or to pursue new challenges. We languished at the bottom of the table for multiple seasons and this momentous shift in our player pool signaled the beginning of the long rebuild from the juniors up. Today, at least 6 of our regular 1st grade squad have been in the red cap since they were very young; Sthalekar, Anneveld, Heath, Cheadle, Thompson and Horley. Multiple former Red juniors feature across 2nds and 3rds as well including Cook, Maclaine, O’Sullivan, O’Reilly, Richards, Sidgreaves, Spencer, and Mueller, albeit a few decades ahead of the aforementioned! This is a wonderful reflection on our club. During the last 13 years, a very long list of passionate volunteers and players have contributed to where we are today. A name that comes to mind is Bronwyn Calver, who led a very young and understrength 1st grade team through challenging times. Others include past coaches and managers, administrators, and many parental supporters. Today, our volunteer list is long and on behalf of all the players I extend my immense thanks to: • John O' Farrell - Brewer coach • Keith Martland - Brewer Manager • Alan Camburn - Assistant Brewer Coach • Nathan Horley - Assisted with both Club coaching and 1sts on match day • Helen Horley - Scoring and general assistance to 1sts • Diana Jones - Scoring and general assistance to multiple teams • Ken Shipp and Matt Fanning - Brewers Scoring • Liz and Jonathan Trollip - Went above and beyond by adopting our Irish lasses Laura and Shauna for the season • David Sidgreaves - Match day assistance to 2nds • Mechelle Hare - Club Coach • Gemma "Spud" Reilly - Sixers Coach, and Chief Gordon Baker! • Alex Mueller - Social Media and 2nds Captain • Liz "Viv" Richards - 3rds Captain • Zara Shipp - Brewer Captain • Emma Graham - Sixers Captain • Alan Gibson & Nick Addison – Sixers Support • Jane Warrilow - Website • Emma Sherwood - Website • Charlotte Anneveld - Social Committee and coaching assistance • Emma Doutreband - Social Committee • All those involved in our youth academy which has players we will see in 1sts in the years to come • Geoff Hickman, Tim Cubbage, Andy Falk and all the Gordon Stags who have keenly supported us over the years There are three key people I must offer special appreciation: 1. Claire Jones - Our outstanding Secretary who has an amazing attention to detail and is surely the most competent in our competition. 2. Hannah Trollip - In her 7th season as 1sts captain is an inspiring and selfless young leader, who had an outstanding season personally. She leads by example and is a very big part of why 1sts are where they are now. 3. Bryce "Our Cricket Hero" Thompson - Treasurer, coach, groundsman, counsel, and go-to man who can now add "TV star" to his CV! Bryce has announced he will be stepping away next season while his daughter Phoebe takes up an amazing gap year opportunity in the UK for 2018. My appreciation of Bryce's contribution and passion really can't be adequately described. I particularly value his voice-of-reason during sometimes tricky situations, and an amazing passion for ensuring our success. He has been a massive part of our elevation back to being a premier club. Suffice to say, it won't be the same not having Bryce, Fran, and Phoebe around for the bulk of the 17/18 season. Our major sponsor Chatswood RSL club has been supporting us for more than 25 years and their contribution has significantly contributed to our success. My personal thanks are extended to President Barry Fisher and CEO Tony Snowsill. It was Barry who handed over our first cheque of $200 many years ago. That $200 has now grown to an amazing $20,000. Thank you to Barry, Tony, Peggy, Andrew, Tim, Sonny, Michael, and all the staff who have supported us over the years.

  • Section C C.1 Risk Management and Internal Audit
Section C C.1 Risk Management and Internal Audit Internal Audit The Directorate’s Audit Committee oversees, on behalf of the Director-General, the Directorate’s governance, risk, compliance and internal control environments, and provides assurance as to their effectiveness. The Committee acts independently of management. The EDD Audit Committee Charter was reviewed and agreed (with only minor amendments) in November 2012. There were no changes to the membership of the Audit Committee during the financial year. Annual and forward audit programs are guided by governance, risk and compliance programs and are supported by an Audit Recommendations Implementation Register. The Directorate’s three-year internal audit program was agreed by the Senior Executive Committee and by the Audit Committee in November 2012, with the program including a balance of compliance and performance audits across the three years. A significant matter of interest for the EDD Audit Committee during this reporting year was the implementation of recommendations identified by the Auditor-General during the 2011-12 financial audit, to improve the control framework in place within the Directorate. By the end of the 2012-13 reporting year the majority of recommendations had been addressed and completed. The Audit Committee specifically congratulated the relevant areas of the Directorate on their work in documenting and improving governance and control processes. Four internal audits were completed during the reporting year, with a further three internal audits undertaken but not yet complete at the end of the year. The internal audits completed and presented to the EDD Audit Committee during the 2012-13 reporting year were: • Follow Up Audit – Territory Venues and Events – November 2012 • Review of credit card usage – May 2013 • Review of the payment of invoices – May 2013 • Review of salary acquittal reports – June 2013 The EDD Audit Committee met on six occasions during 2012-13.

Robin Walsh was President from the foundation of the organisation at Stormont in 2007 until he stepped down early in 2013 to take up the Presidency of Cricket Ireland. The CWI are immensely proud that one of our number should be recognised thus and doubly so that Robin filled the role with such dignity and commitment. It turned out to be both a tremendously successful year on the pitch and a historic one off it, and we are fortunate that a man with a trained eye and stylish pen was there to witness it all — and share it with us. Throughout his presidency Robin wrote a regular diary which appeared on the Cricket Ireland website but it clearly deserves a larger audience and a permanent place on the growing shelf of Irish cricketing literature.
