Teresa Homan Watertown, SD 57201 I am a landowner in Deuel County, South Dakota. Our land boarders the Deuel Harvest Wind Project in Deuel county, Docket # EL 18-053. There are 112 towers cited in the project, with 9 towers within a mile of our property. We have spent over three decades developing this property to enhance wildlife and for the enjoyment of our family. Can you imagine how we felt when we found we have a population of eastern bluebirds? We have yellow warblers, which by the way feed on the web worms that form in our trees. We have orioles, cedar waxwings, brown thrashers, rose breasted grosbeaks, gold finches, purple finches, robins, blue jays, nuthatches, eastern kingbirds, bitterns, dark eyed juncos, red winged blackbirds, morning doves, owls, cow birds, northern mocking birds, grey cat birds, wood thrushes, tufted titmouse, king fishers, indigo buntings, scarlet tanagers, bobolinks, meadowlarks, many woodpeckers, turkeys, turkey vultures, even humming birds and bald eagles. There are more, just to numerous to list. Many of these birds we have seen for the first time in our lives on this property in the past 1 O years. Not only are these birds beautiful and fun to watch, they have their purpose in the ecosystem. We also see northern long eared bats, that are on the endangered list in South Dakota. These birds are making a come back after the use of insecticides that nearly wiped out many. In the 1940's the insecticide DDT was introduced for public use, it is now banned from sale. In 1976 the herbicide Roundup was introduced to the public.

Scott Litofsky * Division of Neurosurgery, University of Missouri School of Medicine, Columbia, MO 65212, USA; [email protected] * Correspondence: [email protected] Abstract: Survival in glioblastoma remains poor despite advancements in standard-of-care treatment. Some patients wish to take a more active role in their cancer treatment by adopting daily lifestyle changes to improve their quality of life or overall survival. We review the available literature through PubMed and Google Scholar to identify laboratory animal studies, human studies, and ongoing clinical trials. We discuss which health habits patients adopt and which have the most promise in glioblastoma. While results of clinical trials available on these topics are limited, dietary restrictions, exercise, use of supplements and cannabis, and smoking cessation all show some benefit in the comprehensive treatment of glioblastoma. Marital status also has an impact on survival. Further clinical trials combining standard treatments with lifestyle modifications are necessary to quantify their survival advantages. Sneezing has exerted a strange fascination on humans throughout history, and induced sneezing was widely used by physicians for therapeutic purposes, on the assumption that sneezing eliminates noxious factors from the body, mainly from the head. The present contribution examines the various mixtures used for inducing sneezes (remedia sternutatoria) over the centuries. The majority of the constituents of the sneeze-inducing remedies are modulators of transient receptor potential (TRP) channels. The TRP channel superfamily consists of large heterogeneous groups of channels that play numerous physiological roles such as thermosensation, chemosensation, osmosensation and mechanosensation. Sneezing is associated with the activation of the wasabi receptor, (TRPA1), typical ligand is allyl isothiocyanate and the hot chili pepper receptor, (TRPV1), typical agonist is capsaicin, in the vagal sensory nerve terminals, activated by noxious stimulants.

  • Targeting Angiogenesis by Phytochemicals
Arom & at al ic in P l ic a n d t Kadioglu et al., Med Aromat Plants 2013, 2:5 e s M Medicinal & Aromatic Plants DOI: 10.4172/2167-0412.1000134 ISSN: 2167-0412 ResearchReview Article Article OpenOpen Access Access Targeting Angiogenesis By Phytochemicals Onat Kadioglu, Ean Jeong Seo and Thomas Efferth* Department of Pharmaceutical Biology, Institute of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, Johannes Gutenberg University, Staudinger Weg 5, 55128 Mainz, Germany Abstract Cancer is a major cause of death worldwide and angiogenesis is critical in cancer progression. Development of new blood vessels and nutrition of tumor cells are heavily dependent on angiogenesis. Thus, angiogenesis inhibition might be a promising approach for anticancer therapy. Anti-angiogenic small molecule and phytochemicals as a cancer treatment approach are focused in these main points; modes of action, adverse effects, mechanisms of resistance and new developments. Treatment with anti-angiogenic compounds might be advantageous over conventional chemotherapy due to the fact that those compounds mainly act on endothelial cells, which are genetically more stable and homogenous compared to tumor cells and they show lower susceptibility to acquired drug resistance (ADR). Targeting the VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) signalling pathway with synthetic small molecules inhibiting Receptor Tyrosine Kinases (RTKs) in addition to antagonizing VEGF might be a promising approach. Moreover, beneficial effect of phytochemicals were proven on cancer-related pathways especially concerning anti-angiogenesis. Plant phenolics being an important category of prominent phytochemicals affect different pathways of angiogenesis. Green tea polyphenols (epigallocatechin gallate) and soy bean isoflavones (genistein) are two examples involving an anti-angiogenic effect.

Abstract: Acne vulgaris (AV) is a chronic disease that affects a significant percentage of the world’s population. Its development is influenced by both external and internal factors. The purpose of this review is to demonstrate the effect of basic nutrient intake on the exacerbation or alleviation of AV lesions. A retrospective review of publications in PubMed regarding diet therapy and the impact of individual nutrient intake on the skin condition of patients was conducted. Ingestion of products with a high glycaemic index may indirectly lead to sebum overproduction, which promotes infection with Cutibacterium acnes and causes inflammation. Consumption of certain dairy products may result Citation: Podgórska, A.; in skin deterioration caused by the presence of hormones in these products, i.e., progesterone and Pu´scion-Jakubik,A.; testosterone precursors. The beneficial effect of fatty acids on the skin is manifested by the reduction Markiewicz-Zukowska,˙ R.; Gromkowska-K˛epka,K.J.; Socha, K. in inflammation. Of significance in AV treatment are vitamins A, C, D, E and B, as well as mineral Acne Vulgaris and Intake of Selected elements zinc and selenium.

Caracterização Qu´ımica, IPEN, 05508-900 São Paulo, SP, Brazil Received 3 October 2000; received in revised form 21 December 2000; accepted 28 December 2000 Abstract Many efforts have been made to develop new catalysts to oxidize cyclohexane under mild conditions. Herein, we review the most interesting systems for this process with different oxidants such as hydrogen peroxide, tert-butyl hydroperoxide and molecular oxygen. Using H2O2, Na-GeX has been shown to be a most stable and active catalyst. Mesoporous TS-1 and Ti-MCM-41 are also stable, but the use of other metals such as Cr, V, Fe and Mo leads to leaching of the metal. Homogeneous systems based on binuclear manganese(IV) complexes have also been shown to be interesting. When t-BuOOH is used, the active systems are those phthalocyanines based on Ru, Co and Cu and polyoxometalates of dinuclear ruthenium and palladium.
