AP Psychology – Summer Assignment Due: 1st Friday of September
Unit 1—History and Research
We will begin our year discussing the construction and limitations of research in Psychology. Your assignment as an AP Psychology student is to become introduced to the people and perspectives that have shaped the foundation of Psychology as we know it today. Each student will prepare a 3-page research paper that addresses the learning goal for the history of Psychology as stated below.
Unit 1: Learning Goal 1—Students will understand the birth of Psychology and will be able to explain the 4 goals of psychology as well as describe the 7 major perspectives and the founding fathers in a research paper.

Assignment (This will count as a project/test grade, and you will also be tested on the material in our first unit test).
Construct a minimum 3-page paper that describes the following:
1. Who is Wilhelm Wundt and William James and how are they historically connected in Psychology? (Be sure to include structuralism and functionalism in this answer).
2. Describe the psychological perspectives in Psychology. You may use a bolded heading for each and describe what this perspective is about and the name of at least one psychologist who is highly recognized through his/her research in this perspective.
3. Identify and explain the 4 goals of Psychology (Describe, Explain, Predict and Change).
4. After conducting your research, what do you expect to learn during this school year and what have you already learned through your research?
