(HYMENOPTERA, TENTHREDINIDAE) – A NEW PEST SPECIES OF ASH TREE IN THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA MOCREAC Nadejda Abstract. In the Republic of Moldova, the ash tree is a common forest species, used in the reforestation and afforestation of woods and territories, and widely used as an ornamental tree in cities and along roads. For more than ten years, our ash tree woods have been severely defoliated by the ash weevil Stereonychusfraxini (De Geer, 1775) from Curculionidae family. In the vegetation period of 2018 and 2019, defoliation was seen on ash trees, caused by unknown sawfly larvae species from the Tenthredinidae family. The analyses showed that these pests belong to the Hymenoptera order – the privet sawfly – Macrophya punctumalbum (Linnaeus, 1767), and Tomostethus nigritus (Fabricius, 1804), the last one being a new species for the fauna of the Republic of Moldova. The biggest ash defoliations caused by the Tomostethus nigritus larvae were recorded in the centre of the country, especially in the Nisporeni and Tighina Forest Enterprises and in the “Plaiul Fagului” Scientific Reserve, as well as in the urban space. În Republica Moldova, frasinul este o specie obișnuită, folosită nu numai în reîmpădurire și împădurire dar utilizat pe scară largă ca arbore ornamental în parcurile din orașe și de-a lungul drumurilor. Mai bine de zece ani, pădurile de frasin sunt defoliate anual de către trombarul frunzelor de frasin Stereonychus fraxini (De Geer, 1775) din familia Curculionidae.

It is apparently the first amber fossil that can be definitively assigned to Tenthredininae. It displays two diagnostic forewing characters for this subfamily: having a bend distally in vein R and the junctions of veins M and Rs + M with vein R being some distance from each other. The variance and possible transitions between the anal vein configurations among the genera in Tenthredininae is briefly discussed. The larvae of the members of the superfamily are all herbivores and most are external feeders on green parts of angiosperms; however, other host plants and feeding modes (e.g., leafrolling, leafmining, or galling in leaves, buds and shoots; see Nyman et al. 1998, 2000) do occur. To gain a more comprehensive overview of symphytan fauna of the region, data published by former authors have been critically analysed and evaluated to give the most possi- bly comprehensive list of species. Altogether, 173 species (Xyelidae: 1, Pamphiliidae: 17, Argidae: 6, Cim- bicidae: 6, Diprionidae: 5, Tenthredinidae: 126, Xiphydriidae: 1, Siricidae: 4, Cephidae: 5, and Orussidae: 1) are registered. Of these, three are registered as endangered and fifteen as vulnerable. Key words: Symphyta, Šumava Mts., Böhmerwald, faunistics, host plants INTRODUCTION In recent years several attempts to evaluate the symphytan fauna of some interesting central European montane regions have been published, e.g., from the Low Tatras National Park (ROLLER et al. 2006), Jizeské Hory Mts. (MACEK 2006), Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area (MACEK 2012), and the Giant Mts. (BENEš 2013). However, the sawfly fauna of the Bo- hemian Forest (Šumava in Czech, Böhmerwald in German) has received in last 120 years only little attention and remained practically unknown. While the fauna of several groups of invertebrates (Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, Aranea, aquatic Crustacea, Ephemeroptera, Odona- ta, Plecoptera, Megaloptera, and Trichoptera) of the mountains and foothills comprising the Bohemian Forest is fairly well known, our knowledge of Symphyta is negligible, and only a few older publications mention this territory.

Holuša Department of Forest Protection and Entomology, Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Prague, Czech Republic ABSTRACT: Sawflies were collected in the northeast of the Czech Republic using Townes type Malaise traps. Traps were placed in eleven young Norway spruce (Picea abies) forests during the period from 1998 to 1999. Localities cover altitudes from 230 to 1,000 m a.s.l. In total, 285 species of Symphyta have been recently known from the study area (Xyelidae – 1, Pamphiliidae – 7, Argidae – 10, Cimbicidae – 3, Diprionidae – 5, Tenthredinidae – 252, Siricidae – 1, Xiphydriidae – 1, Cephidae – 5). The majority of the species have large distributional ranges and their host plants are forest tree species. Most of the sawflies were obtained from Malaise traps located in the young spruce stands, and therefore the silvicolous species prevail. Neodineura arquata represents a new genus and species and Heptamelus dahlbomi a new species for the fauna of the Czech Republic. Nine species have been classified as endangered and twenty-one species have been classified as vulnerable. Pristiphora robusta has been deleted from the list. Wei: Príspevok k poznaniu fauny hrubopásych (Hymenoptera, Symphyta) Národného parku Nízke Tatry Abstrakt: Počas deviateho medzinárodného pracovného stretnutia špecialistov na hrubopáse blanokrídlovce (Hymenoptera, Symphyta) v júni 2005 bol vykonaný ľaunistický prieskum hrubopásych na viacerých lokalitách Národného parku Nízke Tatry. Celkovo bolo zaznamenaných 200 druhov a osem čeľadí hrubopásych. Ďalších dvanásť taxónov nebolo identifikovaných do druhu. Dolerus altivolus, D. hibernicus, Eriocampa dorpatica, Euura hastatae, Fenella monilicornis, Nematus yokohamensis tavastiensis, Pachynematus clibrichellus. Phyllocolpa excavata, P. polita, P. ralieri, Pontania gallarum, P. virilis, Pristiphora breadalbanensis, P. coactula a Tenthredo ignobilis boli zistené na Slovensku po prvýkrát. Významný počet ľaunistický zaujímavých nálezov naznačuje vysokú zachovalosť študovaných prírodných stanovíšť v širšom okolí Demänovskej a Jánskej doliny, Svarína a v národnej prírodnej rezervácii Turková. Kľúčové slová: Hymenoptera, Symphyta, Národný park Nízke Tatry, ľaunistický výskum INTRODUCTION Sawflies are the primitive phytophagous hymenopterans (suborder Symphyta), represented in Europe by 1366 species (LISTON, 1995; TAEGER & BLANK, 2004; TAEGER et al., 2006).
