Then he decided to join the Econometrics team at the Cowles Commission of the University of Chicago, where the director, Jacob Marschak, gave him the challenge of reviving Jan Tinbergen´s early attempts of the specification of an econometric model for the USA for the first half of the 20th century. He also joined the staff of the Survey Research Centre of the University of Michigan where he restarted his work on macro-econometric models and prepared with his student Arthur Goldberger the historical Klein-Goldberger Model. After four years at Michigan he went to Oxford, UK, to work on the data from the Oxford Savings Surveys and also to build a model of the UK.
