INFORMATION TO USERS This manuscript has been reproduced from the microfilm master. UMI films the text directly from the original or copy submitted. Thus, some thesis and dissertation copies are in typewriter face, while others may be from any type of computer printer. The quality of this reproduction is dependent upon the quality of the copy submitted. Broken or indistinct print, colored or poor quality illustrations and photographs, print bleedthrough, substandard margins, and improper alignment can adversely affect reproduction. In the unlikely event that the author did not send UMI a complete manuscript and there are missing pages, these will be noted. Also, if unauthorized copyright material had to be removed, a note will indicate the deletion. Oversize materials (e.g., maps, drawings, charts) are reproduced by sectioning the original, beginning at the upper left-hand comer and continuing from left to right in equal sections with small overlaps. -

Articulating Dissident Citizenship, Belonging, and Queerness on Cyberspace
203 Articulating Dissident Citizenship, Belonging, and Queerness on Cyberspace Rohit K. Dasgupta Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton (U.K.) [Abstract: On December 11, 2013, the Indian Supreme Court reinstated Section 377, which criminalizes sexual acts “against the order of nature.” This article is a meditation on the acts of individual and collective resistance undertaken by dissident citizens (Sparks) in order to challenge and articulate strategies to intervene and critique the State and civil society’s role in this decision. Activism is the study of the relationship between the virtual and the actual (Dave). Using three case studies, this article examines how dissident, queer citizens attempt to create queer counter-publics on digital space, thereby claiming a performative and participative form of citizenship. I extend Dave’s study of activism by drawing upon a range of experiences of activists and civilians “within the field” alongside the digital articulation and assimilation of these movements.] started writing this article at a very critical time during the history of Ithe queer movement in India. The Supreme Court ruling on Section 377 had just come in, displacing the Delhi High court’s ruling that had decriminalized homosexuality in 2009, reinstating what was a Victorian law back into the culture and social fabric of the country. While the law does not criminalize gay identity itself, it does criminalize a sexual act, thus effectively criminalizing most (if not all) queer-identified individuals in the country. Discussions on sexual culture in India have always had a ritualistic and an abject invocation of the Kamasutra and the Gandhian discourse on the erasure of desire (Srivastava 1). -
Todd Rundgren Information
Todd Rundgren I have been a Todd Rundgren fan for over 40 years now. His music has helped me cope with many things in my life including having RSD and now having an amputation. I feel that Todd is one of the most talented musician, song writer and music producer that I have ever met in my life. If you have ever heard Todd's music or had an opportunity to see Todd in concert, you will know what I mean. Most people do not know who Todd Rundgren is. Most people say Todd who? Todd's best-known songs are "Can We Still Be Friends," "Hello, It's Me" "I Saw the Light," "Love is the Answer," and "Bang on the Drum All Day" (this is the song that you hear at every sporting event). Todd is also known for his work with his two bands Nazz and Utopia, while producing records for artists such as Meat Loaf, Hall and Oats, Grand Funk Railroad, Hiroshi Takano, Badfinger, XTC, and the New York Dolls. WITHOUT FEAR OR FAVOR by Bob Morrill
WITHOUT FEAR OR FAVOR by Bob Morrill Bob Morrill 1 A Sunday in July Chapter 1 M.V. Owaissa Piscataqua River Portsmouth, New Hampshire “Tony, I told you I‟d do it myself,” my wife Jennifer hissed. “Okay, okay, I was only trying to help,” I whispered back. We were spectacle enough without starting an argument, especially one that I was sure to lose. I had accidentally pushed the right wheel of Jen‟s wheelchair off the gangway to the M.V. Owaissa. An excursion boat, the Owaissa was already half full of sightseers. The other half, blocked by Jen‟s wheelchair, were lined up behind us. The gangway had only a slight incline and Jen could have easily propelled herself up it. But I had insisted on pushing her— with predictable results. Rather than watching where I was wheeling her, I had been looking up at the head of the gangway, trying to catch the attention of my niece Lexie, Owaissa‟s first mate and ticket-taker. When Lexie spotted us, her broad grin triggered an involuntary reflex, and waving back, I had steered Jen‟s chair off the gangway. Only a knee-high guardrail prevented her from nose- diving onto the dock below. I wrestled with her chair. “Hold still!” “I am!” The bottom of her right wheel hung over the edge of the gangway. Yet when I pulled it up, the rail, which had saved Jen a moment ago, trapped the top of the wheel. The harder I pulled, the tighter the gangway gripped, like some stupid Chinese fingercuff. -

THE ROLE OF SMART POWER IN U.S.-SPAIN RELATIONS, 1969-1986 By DAVID A. First, I would like to thank my dissertation committee of brilliant scholars. My advisor Laura Belmonte was integral in shaping this work and myself as an academic. Since my arrival at Oklahoma State, Dr. B has crafted me into the scholar that I am now. Her tireless encouragement, editing of multiple drafts, and support of this ever evolving project will always be appreciated. She also provided me with numerous laughs from the presidential pups, Willy and James. Doug Miller has championed my work since we began working together, and his candor and unconditional support was vital to finishing. Also, our discussions of Major League Baseball were much needed during coursework. Matt Schauer’s mentorship was integral to my time at Oklahoma State. The continuous laughter and support during meetings, along with discussions of classic films, were vital to my time at Oklahoma State. -

ZIMBERT A wide diversity of culture revealed itself to the nearly full auditorium in Campbell Hall Friday night. UCSB Arts amd Lectures opened its season with Music and Dance of Contents the Silk Route, a presentation from the Peoples’ Republic of China. The title is derived from the ancient caravan trade routes in China during the Tang dynasty about 2500 years ago. Accordimg to the tour and stage manager, Roberta Stalberg, the poetry upon which many of the pieces in the Music and Dance of the program are based was written by scholars who made up about 1 percent of the population during the Tang Dynasty. The rest of the program was based on folk tunes from various small cultures throughout China Studio 19 .................. 4 which have existed since pre-literate times.
