Most often this occurs with games that were released in Japan only and then are translated to English, even games that received an English release are often re-translated by fans. Some games that received an official English translation also received lots of needless edits, and were sometimes censored depending on the beliefs, laws and religious views of the receiving country. This is evident in games like Splatterhouse on the Turbo Grafx-16 where upside down crosses were altogether removed while they were intact in the PC-Engine version. Other translations are much more invasive such as what happened with Dynamite Headdy (pg. 9) or the Phantasy Star and Final Fantasy series of Role Playing Games where characters, equipment, magical abilities and more were changed on a game by game basis. Dedicated fans have taken on the challenge of fixing these errors, sometimes the results are great and sometimes the translating team take liberties of their own (much to the chagrin of purist fans). The fan translations we are featuring here run the gamut of digital comics (complementing the other main article in this issue) to action games such as Dynamite Headdy (pg. 9) but also touches on strategy (Front Mission on page 11) to horror adventure games (Sweet Home on page 10). We kick off the Fan Translations article with an interview with Artemio Urbina of JunkerHQ and The Policenauts Translation Team. Turn the page already and find out what you really were missing back in the day! 5 Artemio Urbina Retro Gaming Magazine (RGM): Would you like to introduce Junker HQ was established as a site dedicated to gather the yourself, the team? attention of people interested in joining this and other projects. He published that patch in English and Portuguese RGM: So what versions of Snatcher/Policenauts are available in English that you worked on? Artemio: Only Snatcher for MSX and Policenauts for Playstation. That previous Snatcher for MSX was what you'd call an Internet project. I dumped the script and posted that, Takamichi translated it and posted that and Daniel patched the game and posted that. There was no interaction between us in the other's work. Of course we exchanged some emails, but had no further say in what happened after we finished our part. • Color Combinations and Contrasts
COLOR COMBINATIONS AND CONTRASTS Full Value Color Combinations Above are 18 color combinations tested for visibility, using primary and secondary colors, of full hue and value. Visibility is ranked in the sequence shown, with 1 being the most visible and 18 being the least visible. Readability It is essential that outdoor designs are easy to read. Choose colors with high contrast in both hue and value. Contrasting colors are viewed well from great distances, while colors with low contrast will blend together and obscure a message. In fact, research demonstrates that high color contrast can improve outdoor advertising recall by 38 percent. A standard color wheel clearly illustrates the importance of contrast, hue and value. Opposite colors on the wheel are complementary. An example is red and green (as shown above). They respresent a good contrast in hue, but their values are similar. It is difficult for the human eye to process the wavelength variations associated with complementary colors. Therefore, a quivering or optical distortion is sometimes detected when two complemen- tary colors are used in tandem. Adjacent colors, such as blue and green, make especially poor combinations since their contrast is similar in both hue and value. As a result, adjacent colors create contrast that is hard to discern. Alternating colors, such as blue and yellow, produce the best combinations since they have good contrast in both hue and value. Black contrasts well with any color of light value and white is a good contrast with colors of dark value. For example, yellow and black are dissimilar in the contrast of both hue and value.

I was working as an artist I was working at Triton College in River Grove and I got a call one day from a friend of mine, Richard Tracy, who I’ve known for a number of years socially. We played music together and he knew one of my hobbies was playing games war games, cards, and board games all kinds of stuff like that and he had recently taken a job at D. Gottlieb & Co. which was one of the three, four , five pinball companies in chicago. Chicago being the home of pinball and D. MIDI この呼びかけに応じ、最初の規格案を提案したのが Dave Smith(Sequential Circuits Inc. 社長)であった。

Captain N (Jumpchain-compatible CYOA) By HeavensAnon Version 1.0 Welcome to Videoland, Jumper. It is a world, or rather a connection of video game worlds that are VERY loosely based off of classic Nintendo games on the NES. It’s the 80s and everything is suitably dorky to match. Right now, the evil Mother Brain and her dastardly henchmen are storming the Palace of Power, the center and heart of Videoland. Her goal? To take it over, of course. But, the legendary Power Glove tells of a savior from the real world who will come to save videoland. His name is Kevin Keene, the Gamemaster. Together, he and his new friends will thwart Mother Brain’s plans in daily adventures that most certainly isn’t a botched marketing exercise from Nintendo. Nope. But that’s where you come in, right? While these worlds aren’t quite as dangerous as their game counterparts, it can still be a dicey proposition to survive if you’re not careful. Will you join the N- Team as a new member? Will you instead join the dastardly Mother Brain, or seek to take over Videoland all on your own? Or maybe you’ll just go somewhere else because this is all incredibly silly. Make it good, Jumper. +1000 Power Points for your trouble. Backgrounds: Age is largely irrelevant for Videoland Natives and Villains, and can be chosen for free. Drop-In and The Gamemaster roll 10+1d8 for age. Gender remains the same. Can spend 100 points to choose age and gender. Drop-In [Free] – It’s you! You’re dropped out of the Ultimate Warp Zone at your new location, with nobody knowing about your coming or knowing what to expect.
