Within the 50's and 60's the plants of chemical and wood in- dustry (Chemko Strafske, Bukoza Vranov, Chemlon Humenne) began to b ee centrabuilth n i t l part alon e riverth g s without appropriate hygieni d ecologicaan c l precaution r environmentafo s l protection. Besides air pollution (dust, S09, NO , mercaptanes, formaldehyde, PAU, benzene) also a wide contaminatiotm A n of water, soil as well as food-chain with pollutants especiall f organio y c origi - polychlon - rinated biphenyls (PCB), formaldehyde, nitrogenous compounds and others occurred. Early in the 70's a large energetic source for solid fuel and e mazuPoweTh - rt plan - Vojant y m higwit 0 hh30 chimneyd an 0 20 s was built here, too. Contamination of water and soil with agrochemicals and from animal production appears to be of great importance. For the pollutant spreading it is important that predominant direction of wind is from the north, above sea level rapidly drops from the north towards the south (Streda nad Bodrogom - the lowest region in CSFR), and rivers flow from the north and east towards the south. e presene basith Oth nf o st data about risk factor n livini s g and working condition f ESLo se chosw ,e regioth e n wher e healtth e h of inhabitants may be unfavourably influenced by the specific risk from industrial and agricultural production, i.e. exposed region, and that where these risk t expectedfactorno e ar s , i.e. compara- tive region. Partial monitoring performed by the former district and regional authorities, IPS (medical second opinio s welna s compariso a boardlS H e d th an ) f o n data published by the medical statistics show especially: - higher incidence of congenital developmental diseases (e.g. Potter's syndrome), - nitrate methemoglobinemia in infants, - increas e incidencth n i e f tumorouo e s diseases, - higher incidence of respiratory disease (a chosen set of children from the town Strazske situated close to the Chemical works - Chemko Strazske. The heavy metal contamination in Slovakia is caused by the natural background as well as by the former mining activities. In Slovakia there are about 17 thousand old mining works, i.e. adits, stocks, and impoundments. Contamination of the ground and surface waters in the Spiš–Gemer Ore Mountain (SGOM) area is caused by mine drainage. Arsenic, antimony, copper, mercury, cadmium, and Review zinc are the main pollutants of natural waters. All contaminated areas are currently monitored according to the national and EU legislation and nutrient load reduction programmes. As a result of this the level of inorganic and organic micropollutants in surface water and water reservoirs will be reduced together with the negative impact of water pollution on the environment in Eastern Slovakia region.

PCBs were used for similar industrial purposes as in the west. Improper disposal from the Chemko plant via release of effluent directly into the Laborec River resulted in long-term contamination of sediment. As a result eastern Slovakia, the Michalovce district in particular, is recognized as one of the areas all over the world most heavily polluted with PCBs. Historical studies show that blood and adipose PCB levels were higher in Czechoslovakia than elsewhere in the 1970’s and 1980’s1. Current data indicate that persons who eat locally raised food - pork, beef, poultry, eggs - in this district have elevated serum concentrations of PCBs2. Environmental exposure to organochlorines in the Michalovce district indicate association with higher rates of certain cancers 3 , but an inverse association with risk of breast cancer 4 . An increased prevalence of thyroid disorders in the polluted area was also reported5.

In the past few years it has started to spread across central Europe and new endemic areas have been established. The present study reports on the first four autochthonous cases of canine ocular thelaziosis in the territory of Slovakia, Central Europe. Results: All cases were recorded in dogs living in eastern Slovakia, near the border with the Ukraine. All worms collected were investigated morphologically and their identification further confirmed at the molecular level by PCR amplification and direct sequencing. Nucleotide sequences of partial T. callipaeda cox1 and 28S rDNA gene fragments isolated from Slovak dogs were submitted to the GenBank database under accession numbers KY476400 and KY476401, respectively. Conclusions: Considering that all four cases were diagnosed in animals that had never travelled abroad, there is clear evidence of an autochthonous occurrence and thereby the further spread of T. callipaeda across Europe. Moreover, at latitude of 48°N, these cases might be considered as the northernmost recorded cases of autochthonous in western and Central Europe. General rules for arrivals from abroad No later than upon entry in the territory of the Slovak Republic, people arriving in Slovakia must register at https://korona.gov.sk/en/ehranica/ and must be able, when requested, to show proof of registration during their stay in Slovakia. People arriving in the Slovak Republic by air are also obliged to fill in the form of passenger location: https://www.mindop.sk/covid/forms. Passengers arriving from country not included in the list stated below need to show negative RT-PCR test result not older than 72 hours. All unvaccinated people entering the territory of the Slovak Republic from 19 July, 6:00 hours must enter self-isolation, which ends, in case of asymptomatic course and without testing on the 14th day. If, after arrival from abroad, people have COVID-19 symptoms, they have to report this to their attending physician or pediatrician; if they do not have an attending physician in the Slovak Republic, they shall inform a locally competent physician of the self-governing region or call 112.     Report of the State Party on the State of Conservation of the World Heritage Property Inscribed on the World Heritage List Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and the Ancient Beech Forests of Germany (Slovakia N 1133bis) The Slovak Republic appreciates that the property "Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and the Ancient Beech Forests of Germany" has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Through the competent government ministries and their competences, the Slovak Republic resolves the issues identified in Decision no. 39 COM 7B.19 of the World Heritage Committee, adopted at its 39th session in Bonn, and expresses its interest in keeping the property inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. 1. Executive summary of the report The Slovak part of the UNESCO World Heritage Property was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007 under the name “Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians” as a bilateral Slovak and Ukrainian property. In 2011, after the extension by additional components in Germany, it became part of the trilateral property "Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and the Ancient Beech Forests of Germany". At the level of the State, the Slovak part of the property is covered by the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic, and in compliance with the valid legislation, the expert organisation of the Ministry the State Nature Conservancy of the Slovak Republic is responsible for management and protection. In connection with the issues in the territory of the Slovak part of the property identified in Decision of the World Heritage Committee 39 COM 7B.19 and based on the recommendations resulting from the conclusions of the IUCN UNESCO reactive monitoring mission, which took place on 29 September to 3 October 2014, the Member State Slovakia organised an advisory mission in the territory of the Slovak part of the property.
