    76 th Wales Rally GB (December 4-7, 2008) Citroën targeting the championship double in Wales True to tradition, the grand finale of this year's World Rally Championship will take crews to Great Britain for the Wales Rally GB, the 15 th and ultimate encounter of the season which will settle the outcome of the 2008 Manufacturers' title chase. Having made sure of the Drivers' crown with Sébastien Loeb/Daniel Elena* in Japan, the Citroën Total squad is particularly fired up as it bids to seal the championship double. C4 WRCs have been entered for the five-time World Champions* and their Spanish team-mates Dani Sordo/Marc Martí. Two other C4 WRCs have been entered to contest the British round. They will be in the hands of Conrad Rautenbach/David Senior and of the recently-crowned Junior World Champions* Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia, and both will be prepared and run by PH Sport with the support of technical staff from Citroën Sport The majority of the route of this year's Wales Rally GB, which provides a little more than 348km of competitive action divided into 19 stages, will take competitors north of the Swansea-based service park, and features several notable changes compared with recent years. These range from a re-mix of familiar forest territory in Resolfen and classics such as Crychan run in the opposite direction, as well as a return to Builth Wells for the first time in eight years. Indeed, the format of this season's edition and its early-December slot inevitably conjure up images of RAC Rallies of the past and the lingering use of the event's former name will rarely have been more justified.

    MEDIA INFORMATION 2018 FIA World Rally Championship Round 12: RallyRACC Catalunya – Rally de España Michelin’s range and people play key role in Catalonia tyre strategies This year’s RallyRACC Catalunya turned out to be colder and wetter than the recent Wales Rally GB, which is certainly saying something! Action kicked off with a super-special in the streets of Barcelona on Thursday evening before crews returned to the service park in Salou, some 80km south of Catalonia’s capital. Spain’s round is the only mixed-surface fixture of the FIA World Rally Championship, with Friday’s leg an all-gravel affair followed by two days on asphalt on Saturday and Sunday. This specificity means teams need to change the configuration of their respective cars on Friday evening, since the suspension parts, transmission systems and settings they use are different for sealed-surfaces. To cover the weekend’s unique mix of surface and weather conditions, Michelin’s partners were able to choose between two distinct tyre ranges, namely the H5 (hard compound) and S6 (soft) versions of the MICHELIN Pilot Sport for the asphalt stages, plus the MICHELIN LTX Force H4 (hard) and MICHELIN LTX Force M6 (medium) for the day on dirt. Meanwhile, the French firm’s WRC2 competitors had a choice between the RH3 (hard) and RS (soft) versions of the MICHELIN Pilot Sport asphalt tyre, and between the MICHELIN Latitude Cross H90 (hard) and S80 (soft) for gravel. When heavy rain swept over the region on Saturday, crews also had the option to fit the MICHELIN Pilot Sport FW3, the specific tread pattern, high ‘sea-to-land’ tread block ratio and oblique lateral water-clearance grooves of which are designed to combine performance on wet roads with resistance to aquaplaning.

It is 15 years since a drivers’ title fight of similar magnitude and a compelling season-long battle involving three drivers was finally resolved on the last morning of the season in Australia. It was a similar story in the manufacturers’ championship. All four teams won rallies and three made the long journey Down Under still with an opportunity to claim the crown. Following a similarly enthralling and unpredictable 2017 cam- paign, when new-era World Rally Cars headlined a raft of major changes to the championship, it is clear our sport is in the midst of an unforgettable period in its history. Away from the close competition, the WRC has grown in stature. The year opened with a major launch at Birmingham’s Autosport International show and finished with a glamorous end of season gala in Sydney and with the cars showcased once more in front of Milan’s iconic cathedral in the Piazza del Duomo. Our pioneering WRC+ All Live channel revolutionised the way in which fans could enjoy the sport as it happened. Every special stage from each round was streamed live, featuring stunning onboard and helicopter footage. It was supplemented by expert analysis and reactions from across the service park – adding up to more than 325 hours of live coverage. Our traditional TV coverage thrived too. The WRC’s global audi- ence and the number of broadcast hours continue their positive trend of the last years.

Hayden and Seb’s first podium of the season in Turkey on the last round was a nice moment and a plus following a measured and intelligent drive, but we know we missed out on so much more. Because of that, there has been a shift in the championship battle and we need to bounce back and do so quickly. We will aim to do just that in Wales. Thierry and Nicolas led in Turkey and showed that the pace of our Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC was strong on the very rough stages we found there. The points they scored for winning the Power Stage after an impressive performance showed what might have been and could yet have a crucial bearing in the final championship reckoning. It is unfortunate that Turkey didn’t go to plan for Hyundai Motorsport, but we have to accept the situation and come back fighting; it is what rallying is all about. The positive things are clear: we have a good car, good drivers, Thierry and Nicolas still lead the championship and were competitive on Rally GB last year. Like Thierry and Nicolas, Andreas and Anders also led in Turkey. Andreas spent much of his early career in Wales and has a good knowledge of the terrain and what he needs to do to be quick.

While Turkey is no stranger to the WRC, the event’s new home in Marmaris means an untried route for all manufacturer drivers and teams. And with the battle for both titles at a crucial stage with four rallies remaining, we can expect a very open and action-packed event in what is an important market for Hyundai: car production – including the road-going i20 – at its Izmit plant is 205,000 units per year. I was pleased that we were able to secure a podium result at our home rally in Germany last month. It means Thierry and Nicolas were able to increase their lead of the Drivers’ championship to 23 points, while Hyundai’s advantage over Toyota in the Manufacturers’ championship is 13 points. It was an eventful final morning in Germany, which unfortunately included a retirement for Dani and Carlos, ending their own podium charge. It was a pity for them after a strong weekend. They had the confidence and the speed, and we know they’ll take the positives ahead of their home rally in Spain next month. Thierry and Nicolas were there to pick up the position following Dani’s retirement with Andreas and Anders also moving up to sixth place. For Turkey, we welcome Hayden and Seb back to the team and we look forward to counting on their past performances and experience on gravel to boost our championship hopes on this event.

    Rally Australia (3-6 September 2009) – Preview The Citroën Junior Team heads Down Under After a month-long summer break, the Citroën Junior Team returns to action on Rally Australia, round 10 of the 12-round 2009 FIA World Rally Championship. Sébastien Ogier / Julien Ingrassia and Conrad Rautenbach / Daniel Barritt will drive the two Citroën C4 WRC entries on this brand- new event based at Kingscliff in New South Wales. After 19 years in Perth, to the west of the country, Rally Australia now moves to New South Wales for the 2009 event. This 3600-kilometre move gives an opportunity to all the World Rally Championship crews to branch out into new and unknown territory. Located in the north east of New South Wales, the town of Kingscliff is in a national park only a 100 kilometres or so away from Brisbane. The acclaimed Gondwana forest, which forms part of the route on the final day, has been a Unesco world heritage site since 1986 and is subject to more than 1100 millimetres of rainfall per month. The organising committee has worked hard with local authorities to reduce the environmental impact of the rally and to highlight the extraordinary ecosystem that characterises the area. Sébastien Ogier / Julien Ingrassia and Conrad Rautenbach / Daniel Barritt have been nominated to score manufacturer points for the Citroën Junior Team in their C4 WRCs. Sébastien Ogier is currently eighth in his first season at the top level of the FIA World Rally Championship, thanks to a series of remarkable performances that have amply underlined his potential.

No formal record of the Club ’s history or its activities existed before this task was under taken. This publication has only been made possible by people tur ning out cupboards, garages and lofts to unearth long forgotten gems regarding the Club and its history. Foremost in this is Mike Adams, who has been the major source of information in that he has not thrown ANYTHING away sinc e he joined the Club in the mi d -1970s. Three big cardboard boxes arrived at my house one day in the early Spring of 2008, Ginny was not hap py when they were returned just over a year later, she thought she had seen the last of them..!!
