As another school year comes to a close, we want to provide another update to our community regarding the progress of our bond projects. The bond pledged to secure, connect, and transform our district. Three years in, and that is exactly what it is doing.     CITY OF GRAND RAPIDS FY 2022 PRELIMINARY FISCAL PLAN The heart shaped artwork in the center of the cover image just outside Rosa Parks Circle was designed by Kate Meyer as a part of the Have a Heart GR art display that included 12 heart-shaped artworks by 14 local artists for the World of Winter festival in February of 2021. Have a Heart GR was curated and constructed by Barbara Lash and Carlos Aceves and sponsored by Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. Ms. Meyer shared that her piece was created to showcase her personal passion for protecting the natural world, and to inspire others to "fall in love" with nature too! Her non-profit partner for this project was Blandford Nature Center. Blandford's wildlife ambassadors are a highlight of any visit to the center, and the barn owl, Luna, is one of their most iconic residents. Day by day, Grand Rapids is rebounding after our community’s collaborative response to COVID-19. We’re once again enjoying festivals, music venues, movie theaters, breweries and full indoor service at our beloved eateries and watering holes. We’re returning to work in the office and planning long- delayed family gatherings. Traffic seems back to normal on the iconic S-curve and elsewhere. We can finally see each other’s mask-less smiling face. While COVID-19 remains and our recovery from the pandemic is far from over, now is an appropriate time to reflect. Consider the selfless work our teachers, first responders, medical professionals, food and restaurant employees, public works and other public servants did for all of us over the past 15 months. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to those who redefined “essential” workers. We can pay tribute to their tireless efforts, follow their example and help in the community’s recovery by getting vaccinated.
