Located at new Jiangbeizui, this new and wonderfully imposing modern structure is an icon of contemporary Chongqing. Discover the Flying Tigers of Chongqing

The ‘Flying Tigers’ is the name given to the 1st American Volunteer Group who worked with the Chinese Air Force during World War II and were based in Chongqing. They are famous for keeping open the ‘Hump Route’ - the route over the Himalayas from India and Burma used to transport supplies into the otherwise blockaded China and for totally destroying 297 Japanese aircraft. The museum in Chongqing has many photographs and artefacts of the time. Curator David will give you an impressive talk on the Flying Tigers and Chongqing History during World War II. The museum is directly across the road from Stilwell’s Museum, the residence of General Stilwell during the war, which was also the Command Centre.

Master the art of Chinese Traditional Handwriting

For thousands of years, painting and calligraphy art have played an important role in Chinese civilization. Chinese calligraphy is written with a brush using Chinese ink on specially treated paper. This method is used in order to reflect the individual spirit, skill and temperament of the author. ‘Young’s name calligraphy’ is a new take on the traditional method. The result is a highly decorative and modern form of abstract art. Yang Huaxiang, the famous Chinese handwriting artist, will show your delegates the techniques to creating their own Chinese handwriting, transforming their names into beautiful works of art.

Make a difference and bond as a team

Since we first opened our doors to guests, InterContinental Chongqing has supported Chongqing Orphanage. This non- profit organization helps and supports orphaned children who require surgery and care. We invite your delegates to join us on a visit to the care centre, where you can help to hold and nurse the children, give them a hug, feed them, and play with them. There will be an opportunity for delegates or your organisation to make a donation to help the work of the orphanage. The charity accepts financial contributions, as well as gifts in kind such as diapers, food and toys. Respect your elders and give something back

InterContinental Chongqing is pleased to support Chongqing Old Folks Home. This non-profit organisation cares for elderly people who are living a hard life or who are separated from their children. On traditional Chinese festivals such us the Mid-autumn Festival, we visit them and take them gifts and festival wishes. We invite your delegates to come along and meet some of Chongqing’s older residents. You can sit and chat with them in their living room and learn about the history of this amazing city from the very people who helped to make it what it is today. There will also be an opportunity for delegates or your organisation to support the work of the Home with a financial contribution.

Tai Chi has long been a part of the Chinese Yin & Yang of health and spiritual balance. All over the Chinese mainland and in Hong Kong you can see people from all walks of life practising ancient forms of Tai Chi in the streets and parks, especially early in the morning before the working day begins. It is referred to as ‘moving meditation’—focusing the mind solely on the movements of the form helps to bring about a state of mental calm and clarity. Take Tea the Chinese Way

Break from your meeting to enjoy an interactive tea tasting session, which will include the do’s and don’ts of holding your very own authentic tea ceremony.There are thought to be up to 1,000 different varieties of tea in China. In your break, delegates will be introduced to Puer tea from Yunnan province. This deliciously refreshing tea can be drunk immediately after cultivation, or, much like whiskey or fine wine, it can be aged over many years. We will also serve a selection of sweet and savoury snacks especially chosen to complement the flavour of the tea. We can also arrange a visit to Wangjiang Tea House, which stands on the Yangtse River and houses a rich collection of historical and cultural curiosities.

Enjoy Dan Dan Noodles Chongqing Style

For an authentic taste of China, Dan Dan Noodles is a classic. This Chongqing signature dish is typical of local food and culture. Our chefs will work with your delegates, teaching them the art of fine noodle making and seasoning.
