  • Christian Names for Catholic Boys and Girls
CHRISTIAN NAMES FOR CATHOLIC BOYS AND GIRLS CHRISTIAN NAMES FOR CATHOLIC BOYS AND GIRLS The moment has arrived to choose a Christian name for the baptism of a baby boys or girl. What should the child be called? Must he/she receive the name of a saint? According to the revised Catholic Church Canon Law, it is no longer mandatory that the child receive the name of a saint. The Canon Law states: "Parents, sponsors and parish priests are to take care that a name is not given which is foreign to Christian sentiment." [Canon # 855] In other words, the chosen name must appeal to the Christian community. While the names of Jesus and Judas are Biblical in nature, the choice of such names would result in controversy. To many, the Name Jesus is Sacred and the Most Holy of all names. Because Judas is the disciple who betrayed Jesus, many feel this would be a poor choice. Equally, names such as 'cadillac' or 'buick' are not suitable because they represent the individual person's personal interest in certain cars. The following is a short list of names that are suitable for boys and girls. Please keep in mind that this list is far from complete. NAMES FOR BOYS Aaron (Heb., the exalted one) Arthur (Celt., supreme ruler) Abel (Heb., breath) Athanasius (Gr., immortal) Abner (Heb., father of light) Aubrey (Fr., ruler) Abraham (Heb., father of a multitude) Augustine (Dim., of Augustus) Adalbert (Teut., nobly bright) Augustus (Lat., majestic) Adam (Heb., the one made; human Austin (Var., of Augustine) being; red earth) Adelbert (Var., of Adalbert) Baldwin (Teut., noble friend) Adrian (Lat., dark) Barnabas (Heb., son of consolation) Aidan (Celt., fire) Barnaby (Var., of Bernard) Alan (Celt., cheerful) Bartholomew (Heb., son of Tolmai) Alban (Lat., white) Basil (Gr., royal) Albert (Teut., illustrious) Becket (From St.

  • “Liberation of Kosovo” Among Albanian- Speaking Activists in Switzerland
View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by RERO DOC Digital Library Memories of the “liberation of Kosovo” among Albanian- speaking activists in Switzerland Narrating transnational belonging to the nation Dissertation submitted to the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences, University of Neuchâtel, in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor in Social Sciences by Romaine Farquet Approved by the doctoral committee: - Prof. Janine Dahinden, University of Neuchâtel, Supervisor - Prof. Ger Duijzings, Universität Regensburg, Germany, Committee Member - Dr. Stephanie Schwandner-Sievers, Bournemouth University, United Kingdom, Committee Member - Dr. Thomas Lacroix, CNRS and Maison Française d’Oxford, United Kingdom, Committee Member Defended on 24 June 2019 University of Neuchâtel Abstract The Albanian-speaking population living in Switzerland mobilised massively on behalf of the national cause in Kosovo in the 1990s. After the end of the conflict, that saw the departure of the Serbian forces from Kosovo (1999), some of the Albanian-speaking activists from Switzerland returned to their homeland. Many others remained in Switzerland, where they largely diminished or terminated their homeland engagement. Since the end of the war, very little attention has been paid to these former champions of the national cause in Switzerland. Furthermore, there is also very little literature on the memories of the mobilisation in Switzerland and the related discourses of belonging to the “Albanian nation”. The situation differs in Kosovo where several researchers have analysed the memorialisation of the recent past. This dissertation explores the narratives of homeland engagement related by Albanian-speaking former activists who engaged on behalf of the national cause in Kosovo from Switzerland in the 1980s and 1990s.

  • Word Pictures in the New Testament - Luke
Word Pictures in the New Testament - Luke Author(s): Robertson, A. T. (1863-1934) Publisher: Grand Rapids, MI: Christian Classics Ethereal Library Description: A. T. Robertson was a renowned Greek New Testament scholar. His work on the Greek language is still consulted today. Word Pictures in the New Testament is his insightful treatment of that book. In the Greek New Testament, there are a variety of meaningful pictorial nuances implicit in the Greek constructions. These nuances are often lost in trans- lation. Word Pictures in the New Testament explains them. Robertson examines Greek constructions from many different Testament passages. He provides background to many of the Greek words and their connotations in the original Greek, thereby shedding new light on the meaning of passages. Many readers have gained a new, richer understanding of the New Testament by studying Word Pictures in the New Testament. And although no technical knowledge is required to study this work, familiarity with the Greek language makes this work much easier to digest. Consequently, it is ideal for pastors, theologians, and students of the New Testament.
