2nd Semi-final Claremont v West Perth Photos by Belinda Pike 14 COLTS & RESERVES PREVIEWS

Colts preliminary final Claremont v Subiaco Subiaco, on a four-game winning streak, and minor premier Claremont will do battle in the colts preliminary fi nal to win the right to face dual defending premier South Fremantle in the premiership decider. The Tigers were unable to hold off the Bulldogs in the dying stages of the second semi-final, seeing their six-game winning streak come to an end, and will need to be able to stay strong against an energetic Lions side. Subiaco will look to use Joshua Deluca and Ryan Vermeersch further up the ground to boost their attack and gain crucial momentum against a Tigers side the Lions are yet to beat this year. They will also need to be able to attack the ball and generate consistent scoring in the second half of the game while firming up their back line, especially with the Tigers able to use Jyrin Woods, Jared Hardisty and Alec Waterman to drive their attack and score at will. Although the Tigers have lost just three times this year, they have been able to rebound effectively from their losses, and will have to start strongly and avoid making costly errors through the midfield that the Lions can convert into scoring opportunities. Cameron Darcy had 32 hit-outs for the Tigers last week and will again be a key to his team’s chances of victory. Reserves preliminary final Perth v West Perth

After winning just once in its past six games, Perth will need to fi nd that boost of energy if it is to play in this season’s reserves grand fi nal. Obviously, a West Perth line-up rejuvenated by its first semi-final upset of East Perth believes it can continue to advance towards the flag. The Demons were unlucky not to graduate to the grand final last week, going down by five points to South Fremantle despite a 5.5 to 2.2 final quarter and a strong effort in taking control of the ball in the second half. Against the Falcons, the Demons will need to be able to take advantage of their opportunities in the goal square, find ways to shut down Frank Stockley in the centre of the ground and limit his influence in getting the Falcons easy clearances. The Demons will look to Mitch Leyendekkers to give them first use of the ball. Perth had a six-game winning streak earlier in the year that was halted by West Perth and while the Falcons won both their match-ups with the Demons this season, they will need to stay vigilant against a Redlegs side that has been able to put together strong runs early in games to set themselves up in crucial stages. Matt Hunt cold play his 50th reserves game for Perth while Jordan Mitch Leyendekkers (P) Mills and Corey Chalmers are also set to play their 50th games for the Falcons.

MRS0055E_G LEAGUE 15 PREVIEWS by Andrea Damonse

League preliminary final Claremont v East Perth Claremont will be licking its wounds after its fi rst ever fi nals loss at home but will have a chance to bounce back hosting East Perth in the preliminary fi nal. The Royals have not played in a grand final since 2002 when they claimed a third consecutive premiership but will now be feeling confident against a Tigers side that has lost just its fourth game of the year but, more significantly, its third at Claremont Oval for 2013. Last week’s second semi-final was billed as farewell to the current Claremont Oval in anticipation of its imminent redevelopment. Unless the Tigers can withstand the surging Royals it will be their season that comes crashing down. Claremont might be able to win plenty of ball in midfield but East Perth showed last week that it can put up a defensive wall that can force opponents to turn over the play. Kyle Anderson did a wonderful job on Swan Districts’ Tim Geappen in the first semi-final and he could get the job on Chad Jones in this battle after the Tigers forward was kept to just one goal and eight possessions last week. The ruck duel between Sandover Medal fancy Paul Johnson and a title rival Mark Seaby will be a highlight on its own. With both Claremont and East Perth possessing potent midfields, the winner of the Johnson-Seaby battle could determine the winner. East Perth does like to capitalise on opponent’s mistakes as Aaron Sweet, Jacob Derickx, Ryan Maldenis and Freddie Clutterbuck are very efficient at pushing the ball back into attack. When the teams clashed in round 20 Claremont stormed home to claim a 28-point win on the back of the tandem efforts of Luke Blackwell and Jake Murphy. But it is was also worth highlighting that was impressive in that encounter and he leads a strong West Coast influence in the Royals line-up. Eagles Scott Lycett, Jamie Cripps, Cale Morton and Blayne Wilson will also be important cogs in the East Perth wheel. Forward-turned-defender David Crawford is set to play his 200th game this week in his 11th season with the Tigers. Crawford could be the man the Tigers look to if they have to calm Bernie Naylor medallist Josh Smith. Overall: Claremont 116 East Perth 146 Draw 2
