After 18 weeks, the home and away season has come to a close and finals footy officially begins. Finals will be played across Saturday and Sunday at various venues across the west over the next four weekends, with the Division 3 and 2 Grand Finals scheduled for September 9 and 10. The Division 1 Grand Final will be played on either September 16 or 17 at VU Whitten Oval. This season has been an exciting one and this year’s finals series is shaping up to be one of the best to date. Deer Park are chasing their fifth consecutive Division 1 premiership. Spotswood and Sunshine, the only two teams to beat the Lions, are hot on their heels. In Division 2, North Footscray and the Yarraville Seddon Eagles will reignite their rivalry and Jason Cloke’s Parkside will go head-to-head with the Wyndham Suns’ potent WRFL Footy forward line. Record Finals footy is a different ball game to the regular season, so it should be an entertaining Western Region end to the season. Football League Also, a special shout out to Hoppers Crossing captain Mathew Ryan, who will play game number 400 on Sunday. President Meredith Angwin Ryan has been a stalwart for the Warriors for more than 20 years and has been a great leader and personality of our league.
