Page 2 of 2 2006 Audi A6 Sedan Transmissions 12 Audi 6-Speed Tiptronic Transmission Features/Benefits - 6-Speed Tiptronic Transmission - 30% wider gear spread than the five-speed in the predecessor, allowing: 1. Improved low end torque 2. Increased fuel efficiency - Less power dissipation - Dynamic Shift Program (DSP) automatically adjusts to driver's driving style - Sport Program can be selected on shifter The tiptronic transmission is currently standard on A6 4.2 and 3.2 quattro models. 2006 Audi A6 Sedan Transmissions 12 Audi multitronic® This Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is currently available on A6 3.2 FrontTrak models. multitronic® transmission The Variator This state-of-the-art technology is a break-through in the industry. Tolerance of high torque is possible due to its link-plate chain, developed jointly by AUDI AG and LuK. There are 27 world patents in this transmission. The key developmental goals of the multitronic® were: - Performance - Improved fuel consumption - Smooth operation - Ability to withstand high torque - Lower weight Key components of this transmission are: - Magnesium housing (multitronic® is approximately 15 kg / 33 lbs. lighter than a comparable 5-speed automatic) - Electronically controlled hydraulic clutch - The Variator - a key component which variates revolutions between input and output shafts - Control unit inside the housing - Multi-link vanadium-plated steel chain (includes 75 pins and 1025 links) Operating principle: A pair of fixed gears is varied by a flexible belt which allows an infinite number of transmission ratios, ranging from 12.7:1 to 2.1:1. The actual transmission of engine power is regulated by clamping force of the two varying shafts which changes the diameter of the chain between the two shafts. Key customer benefits: - Operation which is much smoother than that of a conventional automatic transmission - Better fuel efficiency than even a manual transmission - Better acceleration than automatic, same or better than manual - Tiptronic® mode comprising of 6 pre-set ratios for increased driving enjoyment 2006 Audi A6 sedan Lighting highlights 12 2006 Audi A6 Lighting Interior lighting highlights: Exterior lighting highlights: Interior lights in front and rear headliner with fade-in and fade-out Halogen headlights, free-form reflectors with clear glass covers and electric feature, time delay and automatic switch on when key is withdrawn beam angle adjustment Front and rear reading lights 2 in front 2 in rear Door area lighting in outside mirrors Illumination for interior door release handles Adaptive Bi-Xenon high intensity headlights Overhead console lighting directed onto center console and front and Raised third rear brake light (CHMSL center high mounted stoplamp) in roof rear doors trims lining, does not obstruct driver's view Active reflectors in all doors DRL in front fog lamps on at all times (Canada only) Front door exit lights Two front fog lights located in lower bumper Front and rear footwell lighting using LED technology Two rear fog lights Illuminated glove box, trunk, lighter and ashtray "3 blink" one touch to pass lane change feature in turn signal Two white reverse lights in rear tail lamp assembly, one on each side White side turn indicator lights in front fenders with amber shine-through High pressure headlight washers, retractable, heated, flush with bumper "Puddle" lights in all four doors with fiber optic technology Programmable daytime running lights (only with Bi-Xenon headlights in US) Red tail-light and brake light lenses with LED light technology Coming Home Leaving Home lighting feature for exiting and entering car (fog lights & lights under side exterior mirrors are automatically switched on when exiting vehicle and turned off when car is locked. Below is a sample of lighting technology in the A6. Adaptive Bi xenon Headlights: pivots up to 15 degrees. System utilizes input from steering and speed of vehicle. Optional on 3.2 models, standard on 4.2 Puddle light (fiber optic technology) emit light under exterior mirrors. Std. LED rear brake and tail lights allow for quicker stopping response time thereby reducing accidents. Also LED bulb life is significantly higher than incandescent. Finally, LED lighting helps communicate the level of technology the A6 has to others on the road. Std. LED footwell lighting in front and rear. Another example to remind Illuminated driver and passenger sunvisor with normal and magnified driver of the attention to detail present even in mirror. Std. the smallest of details. Std. 2006 Audi A6 sedan New Features 12 Audi Adaptive Air Suspension (optional) An electronically controlled air suspension with a continuously variable, adaptive shock absorber system; it regulates the car's ride height and the degree of damping automatically. Four operating modes can be selected via the MMI. Similar to A8. Features/Benefits: - 4 different suspension mode settings 1. Lift 2. Comfort 3. Automatic 4. Dynamic Adaptive air suspension: optional on all A6 Trapezoidal link rear suspension: standard on all A6 2006 Audi A6 sedan New Features 12 Audi Adaptive Cruise Control Features/Benefits - "smart cruise control" that senses a slower vehicle ahead and slows car down for you. Maintains the distance from vehicles ahead automatically with the aid of a radar sensor and by braking or accelerating; various distance values can be input via the MMI; includes cruise control and a color driver information display screen.
