QUALIFICATIONS
Licensed in the State of Washington since 1986 Technician at shows such as: Shanghai, China for APEC Summit; Dubai, UAE for opening of Atlantis Hotel; New Years Eve shows in Las Vegas and for the millennium in New York City; closing ceremonies for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, UT. Currently the Chief Technician for the Seattle Mariners, Portland Trailblazers, and the Seattle Storm. Currently hold a National Hockey League certification. I design and shoot all pyrotechnics for Robbie Knievel' s world record setting motorcycle jumps. I am the contractor with the State of Washington Department of Transportation for routine live fire testing of the safety systems in tunnels with public traffic. I supervise most of the proximate pyrotechnic shows that tour Washington State. These shows work directly under my license. I have developed a team of experienced pyrotechnicians and assistants across the nation as a resource for help in executing large and complex shows worldwide.

This is to provide you with a very favorable professional character reference for Mr. Rick Olsen. Rick began his affiliation with our Fire Department as a paid firefighter in November 1982 and electively separated from employment on March 5, 1999. 1 have known Rick since my appointment as. Chief in November 1994. At the time of his employment separation, Mr. Olsen held the position of Fire Lieutenant and was responsible for training and supervising assigned firefighters as well as responding in a command role to fire and medical emergencies in our community.
I consider Rick's separation as a measurable loss to our organization. Rick was a valuable employee with many years of knowledge, experience and maturity that is virtually impossible to replace. After more than 17 years in our organization, Rick's absence is also a loss in the sense of internal relationships and we certainly miss his presence and regular involvement with us. Rick has been a dedicated, valuable and endeared member of our organization.
Rick possessed many qualities as an employee. Some of his finer qualities include an unmatched ability to think and act calmly and decisively under the pressure of difficult emergency conditions. His personal disposition is very well balanced making it easy for him to interact with people in any situation and on every level. He understood the importance of "organization first" and frequently put in extra time and effort on projects to benefit the fire department or the community. Mr. Olson has for approximately the last 12 years provided pyrotechnics for the h July 4 celebration held a at Riverfront Park in Spokane. The shows requirements are very unique and challenging as the firing site is small and within a very constricted area. He has been consistently successful at drawing over 100, 000 people yearly without the use of large diameter shells.
Rick has supervised several concerts the past year in both the Spokane Arena and Spokane Convention Center. In 2003 a law change in Washington State requires a state licensed Pyro -tech at all public gatherings where pyro is used. In many instances his services are preferred over local Pyro- technicians. Although Rick has to travel 300 miles from the Washington coast to Spokane to provide this service, he has gained respect of the promoters and Spokane Fire Department for his professional approach and attention to safety and detail.
I whole- heartedly recommend Rick Olson for all your pyrotechnics. He is a true professional.
