Those browsing the selection at Westwood Garden Haven recently may have noticed an exot- ic sight. According to Christa Callahan, the Westmont flower shop and landscap- ing company has lotus in bloom. It is the second year Westwood Garden Haven has grown this plant, which is native to Egypt and Africa. “It is definitely gather- ing interest,” said Cal- lahan, daughter of store owner Glenn Rosage. According to Rosage, the leaves of these plants can grow to 30 inches in diameter. The lotus plants at Westwood Garden Haven are pinkish and more than 6 feet tall. Callahan said they bloom mid-summer. She added that most people purchase them for use in ponds or barrels buried in the ground. “They grow around here, but they’re very invasive.
