    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUNE 5, 2021 MATTHEWS, SLAVIN AND SPURGEON VOTED LADY BYNG TROPHY FINALISTS NEW YORK (June 5, 2021) – Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews, Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin and Minnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon are the three finalists for the 2020-21 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, awarded “to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability,” the National Hockey League announced today. Members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association submitted ballots for the Lady Byng Trophy at the conclusion of the regular season, with the top three vote-getters designated as finalists. The winners of the 2021 NHL Awards presented by Bridgestone will be revealed during the Stanley Cup Semifinals and Stanley Cup Final, with exact dates, format and times to be announced. Following are the finalists for the Lady Byng Trophy, in alphabetical order: Auston Matthews, C, Toronto Maple Leafs Matthews posted a League-leading 41 goals, 12 game-winning goals and 222 shots on goal (41-25—66) to earn his first career Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy and help the Maple Leafs claim their first division title since 1999-00. Matthews, who ranked fifth among NHL forwards with 21:33 of time on ice per game and ninth among all skaters with 47 takeaways, received 10 penalty minutes during his 52 appearances – the second- fewest among the League’s top 25 scorers behind only Artemi Panarin (6 PIM in 42 GP w/ NYR). The 23-year- old Scottsdale, Ariz., native – a finalist for the second straight season after placing second in voting in 2019-20 – is vying to become the eighth different player to win the Lady Byng Trophy with Toronto and just the second to do so in the expansion era (since 1967-68), following Alexander Mogilny in 2002-03.

The Chicago Pro Hockey League announced its inaugural eight-game exhibition season Wednesday with planned participants including Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat, Nick Schmaltz and many others. Over 80 players from the NHL, AHL and ECHL are expected to be play in the games at MB Ice Arena, the new practice facility that the Hawks opened in January, as well as a large number of top amateurs from top college programs, junior teams and AAA programs. Kane and DeBrincat are set to play on the same team, continuing their partnership from Team USA’s run at the 2018 World Championships. Brandon Saad, Tommy Wingels and Ryan Hartman will also be teammates again, along with former Hawks forward Brandon Bollig. “The CPHL is a great opportunity for our Chicago-based players to participate in high-level games to supplement their summer training programs,” said Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman as part of the announcement. “I’m thrilled to see so many Chicago Blackhawks’ players involved, and also thrilled that our local hockey fans will be able to visit our new practice facility and see some great summer hockey.” The first game of the weekly CPHL season will be July 11 and tickets will be a delightfully cheap $5 each.     NEW YORK RANGERS PROSPECT REPORT: NOV. 9 • Vitali Kravtsov has recorded 10 points (eight goals, two assists), a plus-seven rating, and 58 shots on goal in 16 KHL games with Traktor thus far this season. The Rangers’ first round pick (ninth overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft has notched a point in eight of the 16 games he has played in 2020-21, including a goal in seven of the 16 contests. He has also recorded four or more shots on goal in eight of the 16 games he has played this season, and he has either led all skaters in shots on goal or has tied for the game-high in shots on goal in six of the 16 contests. Despite missing seven games this season, he is tied for fifth in the KHL in even strength goals (seven) and is tied for 16th in the league in goals in 2020-21. Kravtsov is also tied for sixth in the KHL in shots on goal per game (3.6) and is tied for 11th in the league (min. 14 games played) in goals per game (0.50) this season. He leads Traktor in goals and even strength goals, and he is tied for second on the team in shots on goal in 2020-21. Among KHL players who are in their U22 season or younger in 2020-21, Kravtsov ranks first in goals, is tied for second in points, and ranks third in plus/minus rating this season. Kravtsov has also tied his KHL career-high in goals this season (he has recorded eight goals in 16 games in 2020-21; he tallied eight goals in 50 games with Traktor in 2018-19).

With both teams trading chances in the first two periods, goaltending was a key issue. Boston College’s Scott Clemmenson and North Dakota’s Karl Goehring made several key saves. The Eagles managed two goals and the North Dakota goalie Karl Goehring made 51 saves in the Frozen Four, Sioux one after two periods. earning him all-tournament team honors. North Dakota’s Lee Goren — nicknamed “Scorin’ Goren” — posted two third-period goals to help the Sioux to the title. The game-winner scored by North Dakota’s Jason Ulmer, came with 5:34 left in the game. With the championship, North Dakota trails Michigan for the overall lead. The Wolverines have claimed nine national championships. The Rangers’ fifth round pick (134th overall) in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft is the second-youngest player on the United States’ roster and one of only six players born in 2002 who will represent the United States in the tournament. • Dylan Garand was named to Canada’s roster for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, and he will be playing in the tournament for the first time in his career. The Rangers’ fourth round pick (103rd overall) in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft is the second-youngest player (and the youngest goaltender) on Canada’s roster for the tournament. Garand has the opportunity to become the second goaltender drafted by the Rangers in the NHL Entry Draft Era (since 1979) to play for Canada in the IIHF World Junior Championship, joining Dan Cloutier, who did so in 1995 (note – Doug Soetaert represented Canada in the tournament in 1975 as a 19- year-old before he was selected by the Rangers in the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft; at the time, the eligibility age for the Draft was 20 years old). • Braden Schneider was named to Canada’s roster for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, and he will be playing in the tournament for the first time in his career.
