Wine tasting in the hills

The meeting point is at the Euganean Spas near and for an experience in a local cellar, in the green land of Venice.

The , due to their volcanic origin, have soils rich in minerals that influence the character of the wine. The wine producer will explain you the history of his winery on the panoramic terrace and will accompany you to visit his cellar. You will have a tasting of 3 wines with a snack based on traditional Venetian products (salami and cheese) and tasting of locally produced extra virgin olive oil. You will grasp the character of each wine and understand how it strictly depends on that of the vine from which it originates.

The medieval village of Arquà Petrarca

We are in the inland of Venice, in the middle of the natural Park of Colli Euganei.

Arquà Petrarca is the most interesting Euganean hilly center from the architectural and urban point of view. One of the best preserved medieval villages, it is considered the second most lovely village in .

The great Italian poet Francesco Petrarca lived here during the 14th century and his house and tomb were destination for literary pilgrimage for centuries.

Accompanied by our guide, you can visit the medieval village and taste the “Brodo di giuggiole”, the famous local liquor.

Day: every Wednesday at 2.30 pm and in other days on request

Praglia, the Benedictine Abbey

The Euganean Hills are one of the most beautiful hilly areas in the , a natural park surrounded by ancient canals, near the city of Padua, in the inland of Venice.

The Praglia Abbey is the most important Benedictine monastery of the Euganean Hills built during the Renaissance. Here the monks pray, work and restore ancient books. In their shop you will find wine, honey and cosmetics made by them.

The Garden in Valsanzibio

The Villa Barbarigo and its monumental garden, designed by Luigi Bernini, were built during the Seventeenth century by one of the most important and rich Venetian families, the Barbarigo.

We begin the visit from the village of Valsanzibio, which takes its name from the ancient monastery dedicated to San Zibio and preceded by “valley” that means marshland.

From here we go to discover the Garden of Villa Barbarigo which, with its Baroque architecture, water tricks, fountains and statues is also called “the little Versailles of Colli Euganei” or “The Pearl of the Euganean Hills”. The Baroque Monumental Garden built in 1665 is considered one of the most significant gardens in , also awarded with the Most beautiful Garden Award in Italy in 2003.

Art and wine tour

This guided tour gives you the opportunity to discover the highlights of the Natural Park of Colli Euganei. The Euganean hills are a group of volcanic hills that rise 50 km from Venice and 20 km from Padua. In this area Venetian noblemen built their residences during the Renaissance. Thanks to their volcanic origin, the soils here are rich in minerals that gives special character to the wine. Arrival by train from Venice to Terme Euganee Montegrotto station, meeting with the guide and pick up from the station. Or meeting point directly at our shop in or your hotel at Terme Euganee.

Transfer by a 8 seat minibus.

Entrance and guided visit of the Villa dei Vescovi, a Renaissance Venetian Villa, residence of the Bishop of Padua for many centuries. The Villa was built during the XVI century on the top of a hill surrounded by vineyards and sweet hills. Transfer to a local cellar biodiversity friend. Guided visit of the cellar and light lunch with 4 wine tasting. You can taste the local , the Serprino and Prosecco, the red Merlot and Cabernet and understand how soil and microclimate influence the taste of the wine.

Transfer to Valsanzibio Gardens*.

Guided visit of Valsanzibio Gardens, called also “the Little Versailles of the Euganean hills”. Built during XVI century by a Venetian nobleman escaped from Venice during the black plague period, is the third most beautiful Baroque garden in Europe thanks to its beautiful maze, water tricks, statues and fountains.

The square without grass refers to the , the characteristic town square, the largest in Italy and the second in Europe, surrounded by 78 statues, including that of Andrea Memmo who transformed the center of Prato della Valle from marshland in place of markets, meetings and walking.

Another equally evocative place is “the Saint without a name”, the imposing Basilica of Saint Anthony, destination of pilgrimages and simply called “The Saint”.

You will then take Via Umberto I and Via Roma, the pedestrian area of the city, with many shops and bars and finally you will stop at the , known as the Palazzo del . There are emblems left by students and professors and, during the period of degrees, you can see the papyrus and the jokes that friends prepare for the new graduates.

You then go to Caffè Pedrocchi, known as the “Café without doors” because it was open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the meeting place for students for a break and to study. At this point of the day, we suggest you to drink something refreshing and, being in Padua, you cannot miss the spritz that the Paduan people take in the square of the city. Or you can choose to taste the delicious mint Caffè at Pedrocchi that being already sweetened it is served without a spoon !

You have to discover now one of the greatest jewels of Padua and it is possible to make an evening visit to the Scrovegni to admire “ under the stars”, the paintings of one of the greatest Medieval painters.

The Euganean Hills are one of the most beautiful hilly area in the north of Italy, completely surrounded by a cycling path, next to the city of Padua, in the inland of Venice.

Bikes delivery and free parking at the Resort Radisson blu at Galzignano Terme very close to the Bike ring of the Euganean hills.

You will follow the bike path and part of the same road that the great Italian poet, Francesco Petrarca, followed from Padua to his house in Arquà at the end of the Forteenth century. You will reach the walled town of and then Arquà Petrarca, one of the best preserved medieval villages and considered the second most lovely village in Italy. In Arquà you can visit the memorial house of the poet and you can taste the famous Brodo di giuggiole, a delicious local liquor.

Finally you reach Lispida Castle. From the Lispida hill for many centuries the trachyte, the gray volcanic stone used to pave the squares and streets in Venice, was extracted and transported along waterways to Venice. On the way back, you will stop in a local winery of the Euganean hills for a tasting of 3 wines paired with local products (salami and cheese). You will grasp the character of each wine and understand how it strictly depends on that of the vine from which it originates.
